“Ya know, Echo, ever since I died, I have been watching over you.”
“I know, I can see you, Fives. Right here, right now.” Echo laughed out loud.
“So, you don’t mind. I mean, me being here, almost constantly then?”
“Of course not. We two are bonded, since like forever. Why would you assume death would be able to separate us? Or change my mind about it?”
“Good point! I mean, I thought you were dead, ya know, before. But you weren’t so guess that’s why I could not see you back then. Hanging around me.”
“Sounds about right. So, tell me Fives, how’s the after life? Any hang ups?”
“Heh, Crowded.” Fives chuckled.
“I can imagine. It was crowded in the barracks so why not over there!”
“Lotsa Vod’e for sure!”
“It’s good though, they’re all there.”
“It is. And it’s not that bad really. It’s a big place after all. And if we spirits venture away from the base, well then it’s less people everywhere. Cause ya know, the whole universe, multiverse even!”
“Sounds like a very good place.”
“It really is. Can’t wait for you to come over.”
“Well, not yet. I’ve got work to do still here.”
“Yup ya do. And I will help you, wherever I can.”
“Yeah, I know you will.”
“I’m always there for you, Echo sweetie.”
“It makes me feel good and loved for sure.” Echo laughed. “Now then, shall we dance, my dear?”
It was their tradition after all. The dancing whenever they were together, having some time off. And Fives certainly had all the free time he needed.
“But of course my sweet, sweet Echo!”
The tune was starting to play in the background. The quite familiar song they used to dance to back in the day, during the war.
“I’ve got you, under my skin…” The melodic voice sang in the background.
“Remember this one, love?”
“How can I forget. We used to love this, still do listen to it sometimes.” Echo admitted as much.
“Yeah?”
“Well of course, but you knew that already, sweetie didn’t you.”
“I did. Cause, I’m right here, beside you. Always.” Fives wasn’t wrong either. “Under your skin.” He let out a soft chuckle.
“And I my love, will always remain, under your skin as well.” Echo made the same promise he had so long ago.
The offered hand was accepted, the two star-crossed lovers soon enough swaying to the music.

They both hummed to the song, the lyrics as familiar as the two were to each other.
It took several repeats of the song, neither wanting to let go of the other as they kept on dancing in each other’s arms. But parting, was always such sweet sorrow.
“I have to go now, Echo.”
“I know, love.”
“But I will be back, soon.”
“I will keep you to that promise.”
“Always.”
“And forever.”
“I love you.”
“I love you more.”
