His eyes widened, hands trembling as he thrusted his arm forward, directing his wand toward the mirror. He watched in horror as the tea candles and salt circle were enveloped in black. The line between worlds had been breached, and now he had no control of whatever was approaching.
“In the name of the archons—”
The sharp sound of shattering glass rang in his ears, his vision going black as the candles were extinguished. His entire body trembled, not just from fear, but from the chill in the air. Each breath he took made his throat feel raw, the ache similar to breathing on a dry winter morning. Yet his body stood still the moment he felt a hand on his waist and a voice in his ear.
“Well aren’t you a cute thing.”
