Astrolabe

Summary:

Spite decides to swing on the astrolabe and Lucanis doesn't stop him.

Work Text:

The realization of the unreality of what was happening didn't come to Lucanis immediately. The Fade perfectly replicated the interior of the Lighthouse, without any distortion. It was an unusual sight, but Lucanis had been seeing all kinds of dreams since Rook helped him escape his inner Ossuary. Spite, as usual, was there fooling around. Due to him, Lucanis found himself in a dream. When the demon approached and awkwardly bumped into his shoulder, Lucanis felt it.

In the Fade, no one can stop Spite, so now he was calculating the trajectory of his jump to the astrolabe.

"Spite, no."

"YES."

Of course, the demon wouldn't listen to him in the Fade. Lucanis crossed his arms over his chest and rolled his eyes. There was a crashing sound. Spite jumped, but did not calculate. He hung onto one of the outer rings, clutching at it awkwardly in an attempt to keep himself from falling, but his hands still slipped.

"ONE MORE TIME!"

Lucanis can't hide his smile.

"Why don't you try using your wings?" He mocked him, but Spite took it as encouragement. He flapped his wings, launching himself upward. This time, Spite managed to grab hold of one of the rings and cling to it with a happy grin.

"THIS IS FUN! TRY IT TOO!"

"Are you serious?" he chuckles. "No, it's too silly."

"YOU ARE NOT FUN. CELESTINO WOULD HAVE JUMPED."

Lucanis felt an annoying pang of jealousy. After he found out that Rook and Spite were spending time together behind his back, he wasn't sure how to deal with it. Mierda, Spite even calls Rook by name. There is something more in this. Like he was upset that Rook spends time with his demon. Lucanis really wishes he knew more about this side of Spite.

"Okay. I'll try it," he sighs, approaching the railings. "Swing it closer to me?.. I think I could jump from here."

Spite swings with his lower body, and the rings of the astrolabe begin to hum threateningly as they move. Lucanis jumps carefully, as one of the rings is close enough to grab. The structure still holds in the air with invisible force, and hopefully doesn't fall any time soon.

"Happy?" Lucanis smiles, looking at the demon, who is close enough to kick him slightly.

"YESSS!" Spite's eyes sparkle like a light in two small, purple mirrors. It's a strange sight to see, and in some way, it calms Lucanis down. In the same way Rook's scent does. Spite playfully shoves him with his wing, and he responds with laughter and a playful kick. But then Lucanis slips in an awkward move. Spite's wings instantly wrap around him and the demon's body tangles with Lucanis' in the fall.

It's not as painful as it should be in the real world, but Lucanis is still surprised that the fall didn't wake him up. He finds himself on his back and Spite is hovering over him. Lucanis laughs, throwing his head back, not noticing how Spite is looking at his throat in fascination. Spite leaned towards him desperately, and Lucanis, confused, gasped in surprise. The demon's beard rubbed against his neck.

"What's gotten into you?" Lucanis asked, placing his hand on Spite's back, between his shoulder blades, gently stroking the areas where the wings grew from. The demon humms and presses his cheek to Lucanis's neck.

"Spite?"

"You are mine," he says clearly, surprisingly calmly. "And Rook's too. Don't be jealous. We share you."

"I have no idea what you're talking about," he immediately denies, but a blush creeps on his cheeks.

"I can feel your jealousy. It's okay." Spite rests his head on Lucanis' chest, and Lucanis takes a sharp breath. "We're free now."

Lucanis doesn't notice when he begins to cry. His fingers run through Spite's feathers, clutching at his wings, and his demon leans against his chest, bringing warmth and calm.
