Chapter 1: The First Universe
The explosion at S.T.A.R. Labs wasn’t supposed to be a big deal. Kara had agreed to oversee the test because it was safe.
And then, in a blink—she and Lena weren’t in National City anymore.
At first, it looks the same. But then Kara sees it—the banner, the champagne glasses, the celebration.
“Happy Anniversary, Mrs. & Mrs. Luthor-Danvers!”
The crowd cheers as two women step onto a balcony.
Themselves.
Kara’s stomach lurches as she watches herself pull Lena into a kiss. The kind that speaks of years of love, of trust, of belonging.
And Lena—her Lena—stares like she’s about to be sick.
Chapter 2: Universe After Universe
The anomaly keeps pulling them through dimensions.
They land in a futuristic Metropolis where they rule together.
Then, in a small-town world where they live on a farm, raising two little girls who call them Mama Lena and Mommy Kara.
Then, in a dystopia where they’re rebels, fighting against Lex’s empire, bleeding for each other.
In every universe, they belong to each other.
And with each new world, Lena becomes quieter. More withdrawn.
Because if it’s always them…
Then why wasn’t it them here?
Chapter 3: The World That Breaks Lena
The world that shatters Lena isn’t the most shocking. It’s the most normal.
They don’t just see their counterparts.
They meet them.
This Kara and Lena have been together for years. They bicker over dinner, share inside jokes, know each other.
“You two remind me of us before we got our act together,” Married-Kara jokes.
Lena runs.
She collapses in an alley, hands shaking, gasping for breath.
Because now she understands.
It wasn’t the universe that got it wrong.
It was her.
She is the only Lena Luthor who was too afraid to believe she could have Kara Danvers.
And now, it’s too late.
Because why would Kara ever want her, when she’s seen so many better versions?
Chapter 4: The Universe That Breaks Kara
Lena doesn’t know that Kara has been breaking too.
Kara has spent years telling herself that Lena deserved someone whole. That she deserved someone without secrets, someone who didn’t lie to her, someone who could love her without fear.
But in every other universe, Lena chose her anyway.
Which means the only thing stopping them in this world was her own fear.
Kara’s fear.
And now, after seeing it all, she aches to fix it.
But Lena won’t let her.
Because Lena has convinced herself that Kara deserves better.
And Kara has convinced herself that Lena doesn’t want her.
So they suffer in silence.
Because even across infinite universes, they’re still just two idiots in love who don’t know how to say it out loud.
Chapter 5: The Breaking Point
By the time they make it home, the air between them is electric, raw, unbearable.
They try to pretend.
They try to go back to normal.
But one night, Lena snaps.
“I need to know,” she whispers, voice shaking. “In every universe, I choose you. So why didn’t I choose you here?”
Kara’s hands clench at her sides.
“You did,” Kara admits, her breath uneven. “I was just too scared to tell you.”
Lena’s breath catches.
And suddenly—suddenly—it all makes sense.
All the unspoken words, all the hesitation, all the aching, lingering looks.
It was never that she didn’t choose Kara.
It was that she never said it out loud.
And maybe—just maybe—Kara had been waiting for her to.
Chapter 6: Their Universe Finally Gets It Right
It starts with a kiss.
A slow, terrified, disbelieving kiss.
And then Lena lets out a broken, relieved laugh, because—of course. Of course, it was always this.
Of course, Kara kisses her like she’s been waiting forever.
Because she has.
And as Lena pulls her closer, as Kara melts into her touch, they both realize:
This was never the universe that got it wrong.
It was just the universe that took a little longer to get it right.
