Work Text:
Charlie shifts again, dress clinging to her as she moves. The board game version of John's sitting room is quiet, for now.
Behrad was in a mood, though when John's new freaky fountain magic traps you in a murder mystery board game who can blame him?
Though Charlie was in a mood of her own, the fact that they were turning into the characters on their cards with cryptic casanova being on hers. She can't tell if her agitated mood was also from that. Though it definitely was from the fact that John had put her and Zari in danger, mostly Zari.
It wasn't all bad, Zari in her heightened dramatic state had taken to wrapping herself around Charlie more often, doting on her.
Though it's all naught because while Zari is getting her a glass of water the light goes out for the ninth time that hour and Charlie feels a presence rush towards her in the dark.
And suddenly she's waking back up at the table in the parlour with the rest of the legends. Zari's lips glued to her cheek as she welcomes her back to life.

Charlie is stretched out later on their bed, being fake killed really takes a lot out of you.
The hiss of the door draws Charlie attention, Zari walking through.
The sight of Zari walking toward her, the soft smile of her face, quickens Charlie's relaxed heartbeat.
“Someone's sleepy.”
“Getting faked killed really zapps the energy out of you.”
Instead of smiling at the joke like Charlie expects, Zari's features instead dip in a deep frown.
“What's wrong?”
Instead of answering, Zari climbs over her lying body in a swift motion, settling her body against Charlies. Head on her chest, arm thrown over her.
Instead of pointing out the fact that Zari didn't answer her question she pulls Zari closer against her and just rests.
It's a long time of silence between Charlie's question that she had thought that Zari had simply fallen asleep. Considering Charlie almost had but Zari's answer cuts through the silence.
“I didn't like seeing you like that.”
“Hm?”
“Even if it was fake. I didn't like seeing what that THING had done to you.”
Charlie didn't even consider how Zari had reacted to that thing killing her. Seeing her like that. She could only imagine the feeling of being the one to discover Zari like that, She felt like a jackass.
“I'm sorry luv.”
“Wasn't your fault. Besides, it made me realize something.”
Charlie shifts trying to get impossibly closer. Waiting to see if Zari reveals what she figured out.
“I love you.”
