With one final kick reminiscent of the one he had once delivered to silver, the one he now protected, Shadow sent the eggbot flying away. Panting, he turned and scanned the scene. Huddles of the heroes scattered around the battlefield.Tails observed some of the fallen eggtech as knuckles, omega trailing behind him, ran over to a lightly injured Amy being helped up by Rouge. His eyes landed on the figure he was searching for, being held up by his kindhearted partner.
“Silver.” Shadow began, “You know-”
“Yes. I know. I shouldn't have acted so irresponsible.” the young one sighed, attempting to push himself off of sonic, only to be steadied when he fell ever so slightly forward. “I had it under control.”
“If you-” Shadow began, before being cut off.
“If I?!” Silver's voice rose as did his anger, his pupils slit like cats. He pushed himself off of sonic, slapping away the hand that tried to steady him again. “IF I?! If i didn't do anything, Amy would've died!”
Shadow took a short, calming breath before continuing, “And if i had not interfered, you also would've died. Your foolish decisions endangered both your lives-”
“I don't need to be saved.” silver spat, taking an accusatory step towards shadow. Sonic now stood between the two, and by this point the yelling had attracted the others' attention.
“If I hadn't knocked the robot out of the way, you could have died.” shadows fists curled at his side. “You're still young-”
“Im twice the age sonic was when he first fought that buffoon, and-”
“And he's gotten much stronger over the years, lest i remind you-”
“I'm not a child, i can handle myself-”
“You still don't know everything, look at barely five minutes ago-”
“I can handle it!”
“GUYS.” Sonic shouted over both of them, his hand instinctively traveling to shadows in an effort to calm his other.
“You stay out of it!” Silver shouted, turning his anger to sonic. He took one step and all adrenaline drained from his body. The color drained from his face and shadow, realizing what was happening, snapped forward and caught silver as he fainted.
Sonic jumped up for what felt like the 50th time this hour, beginning his pacing again. The two hedgehogs sat across from one passed out on tails cushy little couch. Shadow growled as the familiar pattering of feet started again.
“Sonic.” shadow muttered.
No response.
“Sonic.” shadow said, loud and clear.
No response.
“Sonic!” Sonic finally looked over at the dark hedgehog. “Sonic, you're destroying the floor. Come here.” Shadow adjusted himself, opening his arms and allowing sonic to crawl into them. Interestingly, the touch shadow so often tolerated was quite comforting, knowing the blue blur beneath him was just as worried about the hedgehog laying across from them. The two sat quietly, curled up in a ball of comfort until there was a movement in front of them, and silver attempted to sit up.
Immediately, sonic was beside him, his normal casual demeanor still gone, abandoned as he lightly pushed silver back down to a lying position. “How do you feel?”
“I'm fine. Headache, but I'm fine.” silver muttered, sighing. His eyes flew around the room until they landed on shadow.
Silence befell the room. After barely a second, sonic excused himself from the room on the pretense of “getting silver some water”.
After a minute of silence, Silver finally spoke.
“Sorry.” he mumbled, turning more comfortably to his side.
Shadow nodded, also muttering “thank you.”
Another minute of silence elapsed, finally, shadow asked the question as he sank onto the arm of the sofa.
“Why.”
Silver looked down at shadow, who was scanning Silver's expression. “Explain to me why you would take such a risk.”
Silver looked back and definitely answered, “you would do the same.”
Even recovering, he still had his spunk. Shadow laughed lightly. “fair.”
