Work Text:

With his eyes closed, Buck sighs in pleasure, feeling utterly relaxed and content.

Today is a beautiful fall day, with the sun shining brightly, warming them up against the gentle, crisp breeze.

Tommy and he woke up all cuddled up at 10 a.m. and, after spending some time lazily kissing in bed, decided to take advantage of the day and go outside.

While Tommy prepared a thermos of hot chocolate, Buck made them sandwiches and packed up leftover chocolate chip cookies and apple muffins he had baked the day before.

After discussing their different options for a great picnic location, they decided on Mount Wilson Observatory. Tommy drove them about 45 minutes up Angeles Crest Highway and onto Mount Wilson Red Box Road. After a short walk, they reached Skyline Park pavilion and at 5,700 feet up with a gorgeous view of the hills, they found their perfect picnic spot.

They spread out the blanket, sat down, and decided to just be. There were no worries or negative thoughts; it was just them spending time together in a wondrous place on a beautiful day.

Now, Buck is lying down with his head resting on Tommy’s lap, using it as a pillow. Meanwhile, Tommy is leaning against a small tree, reading a book with his glasses on, which makes him look much hotter than he already is.

Feeling Tommy’s fingers carding through his hair, Buck blinks open his eyes and looks up at him.

“Shall we eat?”

“Yeah, sure,” Buck replies, turning his face to the side and kissing Tommy’s stomach.

As Buck sits next to him, Tommy grabs the little picnic basket and starts to take out the containers.

“Thank you,” Buck says, accepting one of the sandwiches.

“We should do this more often,” Tommy tells him before taking a big bite of his own sandwich.

“We should… it’s so peaceful and pretty out here,” Buck agrees.

The calming view, the refreshing air, and the lack of noise provide the perfect escape from the demands of their work. It will certainly help them to decompress after tough and intense shifts.

Both of them love being active, they actually thrive on it, and one of their favorite physical activities to do together –aside from sex, of course– is hiking. Every weekend they have free, they will eagerly try to find new trails. But doing something like this, where they can just unwind and relax, is something that they should add to their lives.

“Here,” Tommy says, interrupting Buck’s wandering thoughts, and moving a few inches closer. “You have a little something in the corner of your mouth.”

Buck turns his head and stays still to let Tommy wipe it off, so he is startled when Tommy kisses him instead. Quickly melting into the kiss, Buck lets his sandwich fall to the blanket and slides his hand into Tommy’s hair, pulling him closer.

It doesn’t take long for either of them to deepen the kiss, getting lost in each other and forgetting about the world.

Knowing that at one point they have to stop, they reluctantly break the kiss. Buck laughs at realizing that he somehow moved and straddled Tommy’s legs.

“Eddie is right… we can’t go out anywhere,” Tommy chuckles. “We’re so lucky the actual Observatory is closed or otherwise they would definitely kick us out.”

“It’s your fault,” Buck says seriously but he can’t hide the fact that his lips are quirking up.

My fault?” Tommy asks, raising an eyebrow.

“Yeah… you’re too irresistible!” Buck states, shrugging his shoulders.

Tommy throws his head back in laughter and Buck smiles stupidly at him. I’m so in love with him, it’s pathetic, he thinks.

“If I’m irresistible, then what are you, huh?” Tommy says, teasingly, grabbing Buck’s chin tenderly and giving him a sweet but short kiss.

Buck sighs happily again when Tommy lets go of him and goes back to his sandwich. He rescues his from the blanket and snuggles up to Tommy, resting his head on Tommy’s shoulder.

For a while, they sit in silence, sipping their hot chocolate and nibbling on the sandwiches. When it’s time for the dessert, Tommy eagerly tears into the baked goods and hand-feeds Buck some of the treats.

After putting the containers away, once they finished with the food, Buck lies down again in the blanket and Tommy, instead of returning to his book, cuddles up to him.

Tommy draws shapes onto Buck’s stomach and Buck trails his fingers up and down Tommy’s shoulders and back.

“Can I tell you a secret?” Buck whispers some time later.

“Of course,” Tommy mumbles, kissing Buck’s neck quickly.

Taking a deep breath and releasing softly, Buck confesses with a smile, “I’m really happy right now… you make me really happy,”

Tommy doesn’t say anything for a couple of seconds, long enough for Buck to start getting worried, but then he moves until he is on top of Buck, his hands braced on the floor next to Buck’s head. “You make me happy as well,” Tommy beamed. “We make each other happy!”

“We do,” Buck breathes out with a grin.

“Love you,” Tommy murmurs.

“Love you too.”

They share a tender kiss and then, after spending a couple of more hours just lying there, they pack everything and leave before it grows dark.

From then on, they always make sure to leave some time for days like this one.
