The fall (A Pearlescentmoon poem)

Summary:

I wrote this in class yesterday and decided to share it

Work Text:

I remember the day our home fell
Built carefully and built well
In an instant it was nothing but ash
A faint whisper from the far away past
The first thing I thought
As it began to fall
Was ‘I have to protect them. Protect them all’
The world descended into chaos
As I alternated between my friends and my sword
But the battle was lost
The war unwon

The next time I felt safe
I was recovering in a place
That seemed to be full of peace
That year I watched with horror
As the moon slowly grew closer and closer
There was going to be another fall
But this time there was no protecting to be done
Not from me at least
My new friends devised a plan
They created a way to escape
A rocket ship that would take us all to a safe haven

The day the moon fell, I was in a meeting with my friends
My loyal dog watching from my arms
The world shook and quaked
It roared with displeasure
My friends and I fell into the eternal black
But not before I threw my dog to safety
As my brother descended beside me
I felt not anger, not pain nor fear
Only a pang of guilt in my chest
Because his end was drawing near

When I woke up in the bed
Safe on the ship
My friends lying there
In a peaceful sleep
I sobbed tears of relief
Till my voice escaped
There was no battle
There was no war
And maybe everything would be ok
After all
