The Freeing Feeling of Flight, Even In Dreams

Summary:

Can you tell I'm hyperfixating on BFDIA 18 right now???

Anyways Book explains to FreeSmart how it felt to fly with wings, as if she was free from a cage she didn't know she was in.

Work Text:

"It was a bit hard at first, but really fun!" Book explained to Pencil, Ruby, and Ice Cube.

"Ooh! Ooh! Can I try the wings?" Ruby begged.

"Eh, sorry, but they got destroyed," Book explained.

"Aww..." Ruby's face plastered disappointment.

"It honestly felt very freeing to use them," Book continued, "Like FreeSmart!"

"That's the alliance spirit I like to see!" Pencil cheered.

"Yeah!" Ice Cube added on.

Book smiled at the alliance she was in, but felt a bit... weird. After that taste of pure freedom to explore the world, she felt as if she didn't belong here. Oh well, it's fine anyways. Pencil, Ruby, Ice Cube, and if they were here, Match and Bubble too. They were her "family". They would be hurt if she left. She can't leave them. But, both metaphorically and physically, she got to spread her wings for the first time, and that feeling of true freedom felt so much better than anything she had felt before.

As the FreeSmarters lazied about after returning to where the challenge was held, Book stared up into the sky. Everyone else was talking, but Book wondered. Did she... really belong in FreeSmart? The wings were just an idea of transportation, but it felt like something so much more. Some kind of... representation of something. She had landed her way into FreeSmart, and stayed there, but was there something more she was missing out on?

"Wow! Look at all of this! It's so beautiful!" Book said, viewing Yoyle City from above, flying with wings.

"I know. Much better than a picture book!" A familiar yet unplaceable voice called from behind. It was bright and cheery, making Book's heart flutter just a little.

"We should land on the Yoyle Needy and take selfies there!" Book suggested.

"Alright!" The voice called from behind.

The breeze flowing through her feathers on her wings felt so nice as she landed on the Yoyle Needy, taking out her phone and opening her camera. She posted herself, ready to see who was behind her.

"Come on, sleepyhead. Wake up!" Pencil woke Book from some form of dream.

"What?" Book snapped a bit, grumpy she didn't get to see who had that voice that made her heart flutter.

"We're going to find Needle. Now come on!" Pencil ushered.

Book had no choice but to follow. But that voice she heard in her dream, how she was free to roam the world with whoever that was. Who did she know with that voice? It was bright and cheerful, but it definitely wasn't Ruby's voice. It was different, but in a special and unique way. It made her realize: she really wasn't free on FreeSmart, and this, in fact, was not where she belonged. Book finally realized the truth: she needed to get out of here.

Oh well, for now, she'll stay, hoping one day to find the source of that voice. Was it a girl? A boy? Someone in-between? Book may never know.
