Chapter Text
October 16, 2019 Chicago.
David Seldon stood in front of Jay and he was angry that Jay kept coming up with excuses as to why he wasn't injecting himself.
“ENOUGH. I'm getting tired of you stalling” David says and he goes over to Jay and punches him in the stomach and Jay falls down.
David drags Jay to the chair and he rips his shirt sleeve and picks up the knife and cuts Jay's arm.
“David you don't need to do this ok. We can talk” Jay says.
“Shut up,” David says.
Jay is trying to get free but he can't seem to get the upper hand.
Jay looks out the window and he sees Hailey get in position and he hopes she makes the shot.
Hailey is up on the roof and she tries to get a shot but the suspect keeps moving.
“5021 Henry to 5021 I do not have a shot of the suspect I repeat unable to take the shot” Hailey says.
“5021 to 5021 Henry, is there any other way to get the shot?” Voight asks.
“That's a negative 5021” Hailey says.
Hank doesn't respond as he thinks about how Hailey could take the suspect down and get Jay out safely.
While Voight is coming up with a plan on how to save Jay he runs out of time as David injects the virus into Jay's open wound and once he is satisfied he runs from the room but he bumps into Voight and the team and they tell him to put his hands up and put the virus down.
David does as he is told and he gets on his knees and puts his hands behind his back.
Kevin and Adam arrest him and Voight runs into the room and sees Jay on the floor and the virus has already started to work so Voight radio's dispatch and tells them to send an ambulance right away.
Ambulance 61 arrives on the scene and it's Brett and Foster.
Both the paramedics from firehouse 51 head straight to the conference room and when they see Jay on the floor they tell Hank to back away as they don't know how dangerous it is.
Jay can feel the virus starting to work and his vision is going blurry and he is starting to get hot.
Brett and Foster get to work and they get Jay on the stretcher and set up the equipment and Foster tells dispatch they have their patient and they are on the way to med.
Brett tells Voight where they are going and he says that he will meet them there and Brett and Foster head to the ambulance and Foster heads in the back while Brett drives.
At the hospital Maggie was on the phone talking to dispatch and they were informing her who the patient was and they told Maggie that they are connecting to the paramedic.
“Paramedic Foster, who is the patient?” Dispatch asks.
“Detective Halstead,” Foster says.
Dispatch told Maggie that it was Detective Halstead and Maggie put the phone down immediately and left to go to the elevator and once in the elevator she pressed the floor Mrs Goodwin was on.
Mouch thought he heard wrong so he radioed Foster.
“Foster, what did you just say?” Mouch asks.
Foster radioed back and told Mouch that the patient is Detective Halstead and Mouch asked her if she was sure and Foster said she was positive and Mouch told her he was only making sure as all of 51 knew that Mouch and Trudy were Jay's godparents and Foster said that she understands why he was making sure.
Mouch got his phone out of his pocket and he pulled up his wife's phone number and pressed the green icon and he put the phone to his ear and waited for her to answer.
Trudy answered the phone on the second ring and she smiled when she saw it was her husband.
“Hey Randy everything ok?” Trudy asks.
“No, not really. Jay has been rushed to hospital but we don't know how bad it is” Mouch says.
“OK I'll get another desk sergeant to cover me and I'll meet you there” Trudy says.
Both her and Mouch hang up and Trudy goes and informs the desk sergeant that needs to cover her and he tells her he hopes her godson pulls through.
Trudy leaves the station and gets into her car and heads to the hospital.
Maggie gets out of the elevator and goes to her friend's office and once she is at the door she knocks and Sharon tells her to come in and Maggie opens the door and enters.
Both Mrs Goodwin and Dr Charles are surprised to see Maggie and they wonder what she needs to speak to Sharon about.
Maggie went up to Mrs. Goodwin and Dr. Charles and she said I need to talk to you both as it's an urgent matter.
They both look at Maggie and that's when Maggie tells them that Jay has been hurt and they don't know how bad it is.
Sharon goes out of the office and tells her secretary to cancel all her meetings and once her secretary gives her a nod to acknowledge her Sharon goes back into her office.
“I've cancelled all my meetings. Maggie, have you informed Will that Jay has been hurt and he is on his way to the hospital?” Sharon asks.
“No, as I came straight here and I don't want to worry him especially after he got hurt while working in the lab” Maggie says.
Dr. Charles and Mrs. Goodwin look at each other and they have a silent conversation and they are both debating whether to tell Will or not as at the moment they have no idea how bad Jay is hurt.
“Maggie this is what I'll need you to do. Go back down the ED and and when Jay arrives you put him in a private room on the 5th floor and only certain members of staff get access and me and Dr Charles will inform Will about Jay but only once we know how bad it is” Sharon says.
“OK. Look I know this is hard for you guys as you are Will's godparents basically actually you guys act like his parents half the time especially when he tests our patience but if you need anything I'm here for you guys” Maggie says.
“Thank you Maggie we appreciate it” Dr Charles says.
“I'm going to cancel my appointment so I'll see you both in the ED” Dr Charles says and he leaves the office and goes to his own and looks at who he can get to cover his patients as at the moment Will is going to need him more.
Maggie left Sharon's office and she took a few moments to pull herself together but after doing so she got back into the elevator and once it reached the ED Maggie was in work mode and she got the nurses station and gave the orders and a few doctors came over and she told them that the incoming patient is going to be going to a private room on the 5th floor and that's all they need to know.
The ambulance pulls up at the hospital and Brett is out the driver's side and she sees Maggie is standing near the entrance and Brett looks at her.
“We have a private room set up for him on the 5th floor,” Maggie says.
“OK but you're going to need to brace yourselves as he has been injected with the virus” Brett says.
Maggie is shocked and she knows time is against them and she hopes that Jay survives at it will crush Will if his baby brother dies and Maggie doesn't know if she can watch her friend go through that.
Brett opens the doors and they get the stretcher out and Jay is already having convulsions and he is burning up.
Maggie grabs the stretcher and she knows she is putting herself in danger but screw it and they wheel Jay through the hospital and get to the elevator and once the doors have opened they get him in but just as the doors are closing Dr Ripley sees who's on the stretcher and from the look on Maggie's face the identity of the patient is confirmed.
Dr Ripley stands there in complete shock and now he has a choice to make: does he tell his boyfriend or does he keep quiet.
Chapter 2
Summary:
Will finds out what has happened to Jay and he is completely worried.
Adam and Kevin make the mistake of telling Will how he should feel and not to blame Hailey.
Mitch worries about his boyfriend and he speaks to Ethan.
Notes:
I have never been a fan of Hailey and I found her to be an annoying character.
Adam and Kevin i have mixed feelings about as they both frustrate me.

Chapter Text
Will was in the lab and he was trying to see if there was some way to slow down the virus but whatever he tried it seemed to fail.
Will knew that he had to try and figure out something as this virus was progressing very fast and they didn't know what they were dealing with and it seems that it was changing.
Ripley comes into the lab and he sees his boyfriend is busy working and he didn't really want to tell his boyfriend what he saw as he doesn't know anything but he needs to tell him.
“Hey, Will I need to speak to you” Ripley says.
Will turns around and looks at his boyfriend and he wonders what he needs to speak to him about.
“So before I tell you what I'm about to say just know I don't have a lot of information but you deserve to know.
Jay is in the hospital and it looks like he has been infected with the virus.” Ripley says.
Will stands there in shock and he honestly doesn't know what to say.
“Will I know you're scared and I know you're thinking the worst case scenario but I need you to say something to me?.” Ripley asks.
“What room is he in?.” Will asks.
“They took him up to floor 5 so he is in a private room.” Ripley says.
“Ok. Do you know who his doctor will be?.” Will asks.
“No I don't but why don't we go and find out and then you can get some more information.” Ripley says.
Will nods and he knows that he needs to be strong as that's what his brother needs from him right now.
Will and Ripley leave the lab and they head towards the elevator once in the elevator Ripley pressed floor 5 and both men were completely silent during the ride.
The doors opened and they stepped into the room that Jay is in and Will sees that Ethan is the doctor that is treating him.
Will turns to Ethan and he knows that Ethan will be completely honest with him.
“What are you going to do to help Jay?.” Will asks.
Ethan looks at his friend and he knows that his friend is struggling as this is something that none of them have dealt with.
“At the moment we don't know how advanced the virus is so once we know how it started then we can look at how we can save Jay until then I don’t know.” Ethan says.
“I am trying to find something to help everyone out and help figure out how the hell David Seldon managed to spread the virus but I'm having no luck.” Will says.
Ethan knows that Will has more qualifications then him and he understands this kind of thing whereas other doctors would be lost and since he wouldn't be involved in Jay's care it makes sense.
“How did this happen?.” Will asks.
“I don’t know but Hank and the team are in the waiting room if you want to go and speak to him.” Ethan says.
“Yeah I think I need to.” Will says and he leaves the room.
Ripley watches as his boyfriend leaves the room and he then looks at Ethan and he knows that Ethan was holding something back.
“Ok what aren't you telling Will?.” Ripley asks.
Ethan looks at Mitch and he knows that the man would notice him holding something back.
“I didn't want to worry Will but the virus has spread and it's not slowing down.” Ethan says.
Mitch goes over to Jay and he sees what Ethan means and Jay may not survive.
Will walks into the waiting room and Maggie is there and she hugs him.
Hank sees Will. Hank and he gets up and goes over to the man.
“How is Jay doing?.” Hank asks.
Will looks at Hank and he pulls him aside.
“At the moment Ethan doesn't know much but I'm working in the lab trying to figure out how David Seldon managed to not only produce the virus but to actually make it spread through Chicago but it's going to take time.” Will says.
Hank knows that time is against them but he also knows that Will needs to do what he is trained to do and they need to do what they are trained to do.
“How did this happen?.” Will asks.
Hank knows that he needs to tell Will the truth and he hopes that Will understand but he also knows that Will doesn't like Hailey as when she first joined the unit she made the mistake of having a go at Will and she endangered some and she said she was only doing her job and Will told her that her attitude is going to get people killed.
“Hailey was on the roof and she was in position to take the shot but David Seldon kept moving and she didn't have the right angle.” Hank says.
Will doesn't know what to say and before he can open his mouth the door opens and Hailey comes in.
Will looks at Hailey and he feels angry and he honestly doesn't know why she is here as it's not like her and Jay are close.
“Get out.” Will says and everyone turns around and looks at Will.
“Will I'm so sorry.” Hailey says.
“I don't want your sympathy or your excuses.” Will says.
“Come on Will it's not Hailey's fault.” Adam says.
Will looks at Adam and he can't believe the guy would tell him how to feel.
“I'm the one who is family so why don't you stay out of it Ruzek, actually all of you can get the hell out of this hospital and I'll be telling Jay's doctors to not let you near him.” Will says.
Hank knows Will is angry and he knows Will doesn't mean what he says but Ruzek needs to stop telling people how they should feel.
Hailey and the team just stand there and no-one moves.
“I told you all to get out of this hospital now so do it or I'll call security.” Will says.
“Will how about you just take some deep breaths as you are not thinking right.” Kevin says.
“Don't tell me how I should feel and don't tell me how to act. GET OUT NOW" Will shouts.
“You heard him now get the hell out of here.” Maggie says.
Hank nods to Maggie and he tells everyone to do as Will says and he tells Will he is allowed to be angry.
After the door closes Maggie pulls Will into another hug and she lets him cry.
Notes:
The next chapter 51 response to a call and they virus has spread through the city.
Will goes and workd back in the lab and he is determined to find the answers they need.
