Summary
Daniel Charles thought his life was finally back into a peaceful rhythm. Anna was doing better and talked to Daniel every day at her new college over the phone. Sarah finally stopped being hesitant to enter his office and the two had weekly coffee hours there after their Friday shifts. Oakley was finally getting the help they needed and could now beat him at chess every few matches.
However, there comes a point where Daniel begins to see his father's gaze reflected in his own when he looks in the mirror, causing him to fear the loss of any of these healed relationships.
It also does not help when his former patient randomly asks him to pretend to be their father for a soccer match.

It was all a big misunderstanding, after all, maybe just a drop too much of craziness, but in the end it was enough to throw everything into complete chaos, and Dr. Rhodes’ and Dr. Bekker’s lives were ruined forever. She was gone, so young. He had lost his father, the woman that could’ve very well been the one, and he was never going to recover.
So what if all of that hadn’t happened? What if they had both stayed truer to themselves, been braver, and listened to one another?
Canon divergence from post 4x07, an alternative story where Dr. Rhodes and Dr. Bekker make slightly different choices that lead them on a very different path, hopefully one that is happier, that keeps both characters closer to their original designs and that adds depth and perspective to them and the decisions they make.
