Viktor had grown used to being alone after so many years. Solitary, without connection, on his own. Companionship was not a luxury that every child in the undercity could afford, and Viktor had been forced to learn early on how to navigate the world with only his own mental fortitude to protect him. Grit, his mom had always called it when she used to smile softly at him, tucking his hair behind his ear and telling him how he was destined for something great.
She was gone now. But that did not mean Viktor didn’t crave companionship; in fact, he found himself craving it now more than ever at only ten years of age, with not a single friend or companion to care whether he kept showing up to his usual haunts.
