Work Text:

Portia was looking over Penelope’s homework to make sure she’d done it perfectly when she came across some glittery hearts around the name “Mrs. Bridgerton”. She turned back a couple of pages and saw the same dribbles in various colors all around the blank spaces of the notebook. She called her youngest daughter to sit next to her.

“Honey, I know Mrs. Bridgerton is an excellent teacher and you love her dearly but don’t you think this is a bit much? I’ll almost think you love her more than your own mother!” She dramatically put the back of her hand on her forehead.

“Huh?” Penelope looked at her questioningly.

“I’m talking about the hearts you’ve been putting around her name all over the pages.”

In front of her eyes, her little daughter turned into a tomato. “That’s not about Violet and you weren’t supposed to see them!” She grabbed her notebook and ran away.

“What did I say?” Portia looked at her other daughters.

Prudence shrugged while Philippa answered her, “She means herself,” giggling.

“What do you mean she means herself?”

“She thinks she’ll be Mrs. Bridgerton. Mrs. Colin Bridgerton precisely.”

Penelope came back to the room, running. “I don’t think, Philippa, I know I’ll be Mrs. Colin Bridgerton! We’ll get married! He will be my husband!” She shouted and stomped out again.

The whole ordeal made into Portia’s mother-of-the-bride speech years later.
