Chapter Text
Remus was stressed.
To say the least. He had to start studying for exam season now, as well as having some tutoring sessions, and although it wasn't for another 17 or so days, the moon transformation was always lingering in his mind. So, he was nothing but busy, and as he ran a hand through his disheveled hair, he couldn't help but stare at his calendar, jam-packed as always.
Tomorrow he had to create his study guide, then review review review...oh dear. So much to do. He took a sip of his tea, scribbling away in his notebook, stressed as could be. Despite his constant work, he had yet to finish any of his work, and he had to write an essay and practice his charms, and-
There was a knock on the door, wrenching Remus out of his thoughts and leaving him to fiddle with his sleeve as he answered.
"Ah-come in." In burst Sirius, an intense smile on his face. "Remus, love. How are you? You look stressed, dear. Everything alright?"
Remus smiled despite himself, knowing the energy of his partner seemed to light up a room. He could see James and Peter peeking in the door like a cartoon, making him chuckle a little, even though he was stressed. Him and Sirius had gotten together last year after a lot of pining and miscommunication, and now he was more grateful for the beautiful man who had blessed his life.
"Everything is fine, I'm just worried about exams as usual...don't worry about me. How are you doing, love?" He smiled as Sirius leaned down, breathing in the scent of his hair.
"I'm doing lovely. Actually, amazing, because it's my beautiful boyfriend's birthday." Right. it was Remus' birthday. With the recent stress, it had been completely left behind in his thoughts. He hadn't prepared anything, crap, did his friends do all the work? That was horrid...he felt quite guilty.
"Oh...yeah. I'm so sorry, did you guys do anything..? I don't mean to be rude, I didn't prepare anything...you didn't do anything, correct?", He murmured, worry in his eyes as he glanced up at Sirius.
As James and Peter slowly walked in, Remus glanced up in surprise, seeing a small chocolate cake. "It was all we could sneak past McGonagall, but it's pretty good, I bet." Peter said, offering a small but nervous smile.
"Peter, you fool, did you try some already?" James teased, chuckling and glancing at Remus as Peter looked away, slightly ashamed. Sirius smiled, pulling away from Remus(much to his disappointment).
Sirius took the cake from Peter's arms, setting it town on the table and taking Remus' hand, pulling him up and sitting him down on the couch, beckoning for the others. "It's not a party or anything, but I bought some small gifts. I hope that's alright? And yes, there's no need to pay us back or anything. It's your bloody birthday, love."
Remus smiled, leaning against Sirius as he glanced at the cake. On top of it, a little "16", written in a cute little Swirly font that he knew James must have written out.
"It's beautiful..I love it." He glanced up at Sirius, then James, then Peter, his brown eyes shining and grateful.
"Of course! Anything for our friend." James remarked, a smile plastered onto his face as he glanced at Remus, his eyes boring holes into the cake, before speaking up, his voice unashamed.
"So can we dig in?"
"James!" Sirius reprimanded, rolling his eyes and squeezing Remus' hand. "We will 'dig in' when Remus is ready."
Peter snickered, glancing at the three. "Funny how you're the most mature when your boyfriend is involved."
Sirius glared at him, giving a mock gasp. "Excuse me?! How dare thee!"
Remus chuckled, rolling his eyes.
"I am ready to dig in...but Sirius?"
"Yeah, love?"
"You've forgotten a crucial detail."
"Have I now?"
"Yeah...love, where are the forks and plates?"
