Chapter Text
The house was tense, perhaps eerily still, reminiscent of a ghost town, as the family of four ate together at the dinner table.
It wasn’t that good type of tense either. It was that awkward type of tense that made you question if there was some secret drama or vendetta against eachother that you had no idea about but everyone else seemed to know about.
Riggy kept awkwardly picking at his food as he looked between his two parents: Razer and Bundun. They didn’t look exactly, well, particularly very happy with each other in that moment. Deejus was there too, for some reason.
Why was he there? Who knows.
Anyways, Riggy just sat in silence for a few moments, watching the three of them; Bundun, Razer and Deejus stare at eachother like someone had waged a war on the three of them.
“You-“ Razer paused, his voice flat, remembering their adopted child Riggy was in the room.
That was their one rule between him and bundun: never argue in front of the kid. The arguments always happened outside of Riggy’s earshot, where the kid couldn’t (sometimes) hear the (sometimes) screaming and chaos.
“We’ll have this later.” Razer responded, crossing his arms, and giving Deejus in particular a death stare.
Riggy had to wonder: what was up?
Did Deejus like.. personally do something to offend him or something? Why was he even there in the first place? Riggy only knew him as Bundun’s friend who sometimes came around. Kinda like an uncle that showed up a few times a year and then disappeared for a while.
I mean, he was always nice to him. So, what was up?
But deep down, Riggy didn’t know the secret. The very dark secret. The secret that Bundun and Deejus had been having an intimate affair for months, and that now, Razer had found out about it.
And worse of all? Bundun was apparently pregnant from Deejus.
He didn’t want to ask his other father Razer what was up between him, Deejus, and Bundun, especially because he knew that he probably wouldn’t respond, but.. he was also kinda curious.
So, Riggy continued eating his food, and finished.
“We’ll see you later son.” Razer spoke softly, grunting, giving Riggy that manly dad hug that he always gave Riggy. Even though Riggy was an adopted child of his, Razer loved him he had a real, natural son. He loved him more than the entire world.
“Love you too, dad.” Riggy responded back, smiling.
Then, he left the dining room, pretending to go up towards his room, his footsteps silent, silent as a ghost, but in reality? He just was outside the dining room, in a corner, wanting to see what was up..
He got halfway around the corner, just enough to not be seen but as close enough to see everything for his own eyes and hear all the words that were said.
Big mistake.
He could see Razer, Bundun and Deejus all standing together.
“You..” Razer started, and then paused again, not holding his emotions together from the looks of it. Dad got that look on his face when he was absolutely pissed the hell off. It wasn’t different.
“You.. you guys had an affair for MONTHS? And you.. you DIDN'T tell me?” He yelled, slamming his hands down on the table, the empty plates that hadn’t been put away clattering up and down from the impact.
“It’s- it’s not what it looks like-“ Bundun began.
Deejus stopped him. He cut him off by squeezing his hand tightly. The code for him to just stay silent for this one.
“You.. you.. you cheated on me, for months and now.. now.. you’re PREGNANT?” Razer spoke. He had his own disbelief in his voice, that was mostly full of rage. But it was also like he was asking if it was really true.
Like he didn’t believe it either.
Riggy paused, his own expression forming into horror as he watched his dads marriage crush completely in front of his eyes from behind the corner.
His.. his other father Bundun had an affair with Deejus? And he was pregnant?
Riggy didn’t even know that was possible, but now, he didn’t know what to think. Why would Bundun cheat on his father? Why? They were a perfect and happy family, but now.. now Bundun ruined it!
This wasn’t his Bundun.. this wasn’t his other father..
“Dad..” He whispered to himself, watching from the corner, wanting to reach out his hand.
He just wanted his dad, but here he was, watching his father fight. Watching everything of the perfect life he never would’ve thought changing, change.
Riggy didn’t know what he wanted to do, but he didn’t have to do anything. Because then, out from the corner of the room, he saw it.
The sight of glass being hurled at each other as screaming began. The three of them screamed back and forth, where Bundun called his father Razer some.. particularly horrible names that he didn’t want to think about or repeat in his head.
Meanwhile, Razer shot back with a witty comeback, with some colorful words that Riggy also didn’t.. want to repeat here.
They continued to argue, seemingly not realizing that Riggy, their child, was standing quite literally right behind them, watching their marriage fall into pieces and crumble.
Not like it probably would’ve lasted much longer anyways, considering the problems with everything in the marriage.
And Riggy wondered, just where had life went wrong here?
But he was too invested in the drama to intervene in the fact they were fighting each other physically and screaming at each other. As sad as it was…
Riggy did have to admit, it was quite entertaining.
For a few moments.
But, watching them continue to fight, also deeply saddened him. It burned an aching hole in his heart, making him feel abandoned and like the world around him was going to cave in on itself and he’d be the only one alive to survive it.
So, Riggy did the probably most logical thing: he turned around and actually walked back to his room.
The moment he got up the stairs, he closed the door to his room hard, and just sat on the bed, feeling numb, and a surgence of other emotions he never knew he could feel.
For the rest of the night, he drowned out them fighting and screaming with music.
And just maybe, maybe the next morning, maybe things would be alright.
—
The next morning, it was not alright.
Riggy had woken up early from a.. nightmare from the whole event from yesterday. Everything was still very saddening and depressing to think about, so he tried to not think about it.
Key word is tried.
The breakfast table was strangely empty, besides from him and his other father, Razer.
His other fathers things seemed strangely missing, and as the two of them silently ate breakfast again, Riggy could see him reading into divorce lawyers. Whatever that meant.
“..Dad, what happened to Bundun?” He eventually asked his father, out of curiosity. He swore he could see Razer’s soul leave his body when he asked that.
“We.. we had some adult business, and he needed to.. go away for a little bit. Don’t worry about it bud, it doesn’t concern any of you.” Razer responded.
He couldn’t just tell his adopted child he had just found out that Bundun had an affair with Deejus for months, and that he had found out that Bundun was pregnant.. with Deejus’s kid.
How could you just tell an innocent kid that? You can’t.. exactly do that. Not now, at least.
Riggy just looked at him in the eyes, and looked away.
“..I believe you.” He spoke, quietly.
But he knew. He knew what happened that quiet night in the dining room that he wasn’t supposed to see. The massive fight. The fact their marriage went crumbling down.
Riggy put his head in his hands under the table secretly as he began to silently cry.
The world was cruel.
Why?
