Chapter Text

In hindsight Freddy probably shouldn’t have set Captain Marvel on fire. Sure, Billy has had his powers for a couple years, but that doesn’t mean he knows all of what he can do. Naturally after finding out the new kid at school was Fawcett’s hero Freddy decided that figuring out if he had any other powers would be a good idea.

Turns out Billy hadn’t realised he could shoot lightning. The kid transforms via lightning strike, how did he not at least try to see if he had lightning powers. They did various tests on what the Captain could do. Flattening metal drums by flicking them into a stone wall, check. Flying, cool, also check. Slam a wooden pole into his chest and watch as it shatters on impact, check.

Freddy then got the idea of seeing if Captain Marvel could teleport. They found two large boxes Billy would go into one and try to teleport into the other. When Captain Marvel had placed himself into one of the boxes Freddy looked to the side and saw a canister of gasoline and a box of matches. Perhaps this would be a good time for a secret fire-immunity test. He poured the gasoline around the box and made a trail leading a few metres away he then lit on of the matches and dropped it onto the gasoline watching as the flames approached the box.

As the flames began consuming the box Freddy began to get worried until Captain Marvel tore the box apart from the inside. Once he’d gotten away from the burning box he turned and glared at Freddy.

“I’m sorry!!!” Freddy shouted before turning around and running away.

After leaving the abandoned warehouse where they were testing Billy’s powers Freddy quickly made his way into a crowd hoping that his friend would lose sight of him. Freddy weaved his way through the crowds keeping low so he wouldn’t be spotted. He just has to make sure he gets home before Billy finds him.

Freddy noticed that the crowd was thinning as he was getting close to Asher Park. Once he was at the park’s edge, he quickly dashed towards the bushes remaining low as he kept an eye on the sky. However, because he was looking skywards, he ended up walking into something that was soft and warm. Freddy looked down to see that he had bumped into Tawny. The tiger gave a low rumble of amusement.

Freddy was about to run away when suddenly he found himself being flipped upside down, his back pinned to a red-clad chest by a single unmoving arm.

“Soooo, Freeman, how are things?” Captain Marvel asked, “Done anything interesting lately like, oh I don’t know, setting your friend on fire!”

“You’re invulnerable,” Freddy struggled blood rushing to his head, “You weren’t in any real danger!”

“Maybe not, but it’s the principle of the matter,” he told him, “So I’m just gonna keep you here until you… hmmm. I got it. Freddy, I’ll let you go if you admit I’m cooler than you.”

Freddy briefly stopped struggling, “That’s it?”

“That and you’ll share your lunch with me for two weeks.”

Freddy considered the ultimatum. He’s not seeing a downside to this. Honestly, he’d have shared his lunch with Billy anyway. However, Freddy is not just gonna agree to this without a struggle. He quickly began struggling as much as he could considering he’d been pinned to Marvel’s chest.

“Hey Tawny. Can you help me out?” Freddy asked the tiger who responded by lying down to sleep, “Betrayal!”

“How is that a betrayal?” Marvel asked, “I’ve known Tawny for two years, you’ve known him for less than a day in total.”

“Shut up,” Freddy retorted his feet uselessly hitting the hero in the face.

“Well, that’s not very nice,” Marvel remarked, “Hey how about I give us a view.”

Marvel began floating higher into the air as Freddy continued his fruitless struggle. Soon they were higher than the tallest building in Fawcett.

“Come on Freddy,” he told his friend, “Just give up.”

“Nope! Never!”

“Well, I have another idea,” Marvel told Freddy before he began spinning around. Of course, he wasn’t going to go too fast he doesn’t want Freddy to actually get hurt.

Turns out being spun around while upside down is a great way to get dizzy.

“Okay, okay,” Freddy shouted, “Billy Batson is the coolest person to ever exist, and I’ll be sharing my lunch with him for the next two weeks."

Marvel flipped Freddy right-side up, “There, now was that so hard?”

Freddy stuck out his tongue at the hero.

“Rude.”

“Whatever,” Freddy retorted, “Hey maybe we should do this again, just without the whole upside-down thing.”

“And without setting me on fire.”

“I’m sorry!”

“Well at least I’m getting lunch for two weeks out of this.”

“Good for you. Hey if you’re not busy how about coming over. I’m sure grandpa won’t mind,” Freddy told him.

“You sure?”

“Of course I am,” Freddy told him, “You’re my friend. Face it Batson you’re stuck with me.”

“Oh no,” Marvel deadpanned, “Whatever shall I do?”

“Hey, do you know how many of our classmate would want to be friends with me?” Freddy reminded him.

“Well, you’re certainly modest,” Marvel remarked with an eyeroll.

“Whatever, just set me down or better yet just drop me home,” Freddy told him.

“Fine, but don’t forget about lunch for the next two weeks,” Marvel told him as he began to fly his friend home.
