Little bird, you heal where it hurts

Summary:

A cute story about how Alma and Isabel fell in love and helping each other overcome the trauma caused by the atrocities committed by Caul. A lovely romance where our favorite ymbrynes discover that living together isn't always perfect but they'll try hard to make it work💜

It's the first novel I've written in my life, I hope you enjoy it.

Chapter 1: A new bird in the nest

Chapter Text

The architecture of the house was truly impressive, the mansion was a veritable palace and Alma had every reason in the world to be proud of her home. She had always made sure that her children would always have the best.

The house was a hidden treasure on a humble little island. It was without a doubt the most imposing building on the entire island. The mansion seemed out of place in the era they were in. It was clearly built long before 1940, with architecture that combines neo-Flemish revivalism with neoclassicism and the chalet style, an architectural masterpiece. Alma seemed to have been molded for that house. Living there gave her the freedom to dress the way she liked best, with her imposing Victorian dresses. That was how she felt at home, dressing the same way she had dressed as a child in Miss Avocet's loop.

On the other hand, Isabel seemed out of place in that setting. Her colorful and modern clothes, her casual haircut and her style seemed to date long after 1940, she looked like a time traveler from the future to a time she didn't belong to. She was too strange and extravagant for that time, which was even funny because she and Alma were born at the same time. They were both similar in age but had infinitely different styles. Alma clung to a past that was never really hers, while Isabel despised Victorian fashion and only wanted to wear clothes that were decades ahead of her time. It was strange to think that people so different could get along so well, and even stranger to think that they would now live together.

Isabel brought her bags in the morning. She was wearing a pair of white boots and a light blue suit with shoulder pads and cat-eye sunglasses. Her hair was combed back and held back by a white hairband. She looked beautiful.

“You weren't exaggerating when you said your house was magnificent, Alma!” She said, taking off her glasses and assessing the house for the first time.

“You know me, I always look for the best for my children.”

“This place will be perfect for the new Ymbryne academy! The girls will love it.”

“I hope they really like it... Well you'll need help with your bags, Bronwyn will take them to my... our, she'll take them to our room on the second floor, I'm sure you'll like it.” Alma was really excited about the idea of sharing a room with Isabel again, they did this for 8 years when they were students at Ymbryne academy and it's an experience that Alma is looking forward to reliving, it's like going back to her best years in the past, a simpler and happier time.

“Great! I can't wait, I've dreamed of being here for so long! This is a dream come true. Let's make happy memories here!” Isabel smiled, she had such a beautiful and genuine smile that Alma always smiled back at her. It was so good to have Isabel with her.

Alma took Isabel Cuckoo's hand and began to show her all the rooms in the house, familiarizing her with the house that would now also belong to her. This was the beginning of something new, of something beautiful, of a peculiar new time, and the two were going to do their best to make it a time of peace like it had never been before. This is just the first step towards that
