Resilience

Summary:

As a medical student, it gets hard enough as it is to be working as a spy just to cover your college expenses as you enter your second year in med school.

Of course this “job” is suppose to last 4-7 years once you get your MD.

You never expected to encounter a group of alien robots who are part of the same system as you, let alone be assigned to a field medic as your partner.

Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

The door on it hinges creaked the moment your hand grasped the handle as you stepped into the office of your boss awaiting you.

"Ah Y/n, come on in." General Bryce spoke from his seat behind his desk as you closed the door and took a seat on the metal chair sat across from his desk.

"You called, sir?" Raising a brow, sitting comfortably in your seat with your arms crossed on your chest and your leg over your knee as General Bryce locked eyes with you.

"I've come to inform you that your reports, which you provided over the last year has been paying off, thanks to the training you received and helping us expose those dirt bags that intend to cause harm."

He examined some files on his desk as he spoke to you before pushing them aside as you looked at the general with an amused look on your face.

"Happy to help, sir. After all this is only a part-time job I agree in exchange to help pay for my medical school. But aside from learning to become a doctor, it feels good to do some justice and uphold the side of law, at least."

You never expected after graduating from high school that you'd be working in the military as a spy to achieve the career of your dreams...but hey, at least they're paying you good for all those risky missions you had to encounter.

It may seem difficult to be studying as a current med student and a spy, but luckily General Bryce has been generous enough to accommodate your schedule and ease off the pressure over your studies.

So far, it's almost the end of summer and pretty soon you'll have to start attending school again as you're entering your second year in the university with 5 more years to go down in the long run.

It may seem like a long time but it will fly by in a breeze.

"Actually..." General Bryce spoke, catching your attention as you looked at him. "This is not the reason why I call you down here into my office."

"Oh?" You tilted your head at the remark, giving the general a curious look. "How come?"

"There is someone I like you to meet."

Before you could ask who, a knock on the door interrupted your thoughts. "Come in."

With the door opening, a man in a light blue suit and tie with a bit of pot belly came in as General Bryce began to introduce you to the stranger standing in the room.

"Y/n, meet Special Agent William Fowler. He'll be your supervisor in charge of reporting to him." The general spoke as you rose from your seat to shake hands with the agent.

"A pleasure to make your acquaintance, Agent Fowler." You greeted, smiling as he shook his head. "Likewise. I'm looking forward to be working with you, Y/n."

With a shake of your head, you let your hand return back to your side before turning your attention to General Bryce with a questioning look. "But sir, if I may, why the change of staff? Why won't I be reporting to you?"

It's not that you didn't want to work with Agent Fowler, but you were simply curious why the change of plan when last year everything was going well as usual.

"Things at the Pentagon have been rather slow lately and the ones in charge are assigning me more work to my payload which means I won't have time to see how your missions are going.

It's why I asked Bill here to start overlooking your position as you will be reporting to him."

The idea of working with someone you hardly met, didn't exactly leave you thrilled, especially if this is someone who is a close friend of Bryce.

But being the polite and respectful individual that you are, you're not one to complain unless Fowler guy treats you like an actual jerk.

With the tension releasing from your shoulders, you express a small smile on your lips as you look at the general you've grown to see as a mentor in the last upcoming year.

"Consider it done, sir. If I'm to work and report in to Special Agent Fowler then there should be no problems between us." You said as the agent across from you seem to agree with your choice of words.

"Then you are both dismissed. Take the time to get to know one another and enjoy the rest of your evening." With your boss focusing back on the paperwork on his desk, both you and Fowler step out of the office as you began to walk down the corridor surrounding you.

"So, Y/n, do you have any hobbies?" Fowler asked, cutting the awkward silence between you two as you mentally let you a sigh.

"This is gonna be a long day."

Chapter Text

It's been about two weeks since you got to know Agent Fowler and so far he's been like a father-figure to you.

At first, you assumed getting to know him would be a rough start but pretty soon you both warmed up to each other and became good colleagues and friends.

With college starting less than a week, you found yourself sitting at a booth inside a fast-food restaurant with your pen drawing down notes as you prepared for the list of supplies you'll need once you enter your third semester.

With nothing else coming into thought except to have a good night's sleep before the first day, you let out a sigh as you dipped one of your french fries into a small cup of ketchup next to you on the table before taking a small sip from your drink.

You may be studying to become a doctor, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy yourself with a few fast food meals now and then.

From your seat, your eyes glance over to the cash register to see Jack working in the drive-thru where you can see him speaking to someone on the mic.

You became friends with Jack when you were a senior in high school and he was just beginning to enter his first year. Not to mention, you applied for an internship at the hospital where his mom, June, worked at so you got to know the Darby's pretty well after having a few things in common with one another.

You glance at the watch on your wrist to see it was already 5:00 pm and you can see the sun beginning to set down over the horizon.

You wanted to wait until Jack's shift was over so you two could spend more time hanging out before school began to pound you with a lot of homework and reading you obviously hated doing.

Suddenly, your attention was drawn away from Jack as you glance over at the window to the parking lot to see a blue and fancy looking motorcycle parked near the entrance to the restaurant.

It must have parked there recently because it wasn't there when you first came in.

And with you being a spy and looking at the model of this motorcycle sitting in the parking lot, your suspicions were now being roused.

You first glance over to the cash register to see if there was anyone that recently came in before examining over at rest of the restaurant to see if there were any customers owning that bike or wearing motorcycle gear for that matter.

When you saw no resemblance of any biker inside, your eyes glance back to the parking lot and out into the distance to see if there was someone stopping by for gas or heading into the other shops nearby.

Yet there was no one that drew your eye except for a few pedestrians crossing the streets.

Seeing no sign of the biker nearby even though you heard it pulling up into the lot, has now made you furrow your brows in slight concern.

Being one not to dismiss anything out of sorts, you flipped your journal open that was sitting on the table. You turn to a fresh new page as you carefully glance at the motorcycle sitting by the window.

With the pen in your hand, you began to draw and sketch the bike. Making a mental note to stop by at the agency later to see if any local bike shops were coming out with any new fresh models like the one you are seeing now.

As you continue to draw the rough outline and fill in a few shading, you began to have this feeling this bike was now watching you from the booth you sat in.

This made you slightly uneasy as you couldn't stop yourself from staring at it until you felt a hand touching your shoulder.

"Hey, Y/n."

You jumped in your seat as you let out a gasp, jerking your head over to see Jack standing next to you from the booth.

"Oh, Jack. You scared me." You breathed out, calming the racing heart pounding in your chest before quickly closing your journal shut and book marking the sketch you drew with the pen sliding inside.

"Sorry. Didn't mean to startle you, I just wanted to come over and see how things were going." Jack smiled, with a bit of an apologetic look on his face as he felt bad for scaring you without any prior acknowledgement.

"Ah, don't worry about it." You smiled, brushing his apology off with a wave of your hand as you stood up from your seat and began to collect the food you finished from the table to be thrown in the trash.

"Actually, I wanted to talk to you once your shift was over. Since you're already back in school and I'm a week away from starting mine, do you wanna hang out over the weekend at your place?

After all, you know how much your mom loves my company." You empathize, with Jack letting out a chuckle as you both found yourselves stepping out of the restaurant.

"That's true and after everything you done for us, there is no way I'll be turning down another video game tournament from you." With his brow eyed cockily at you, you scoffed as you crossed your arms over your chest.

"If I recall, I won the last round the other day and you insisted on a re-match. So, this weekend, we'll see who comes out on to stop, smart guy." You teased as Jack gave you a playful smirk before you heard his cellphone began to ring.

"Ah, it's mom. Need to let her know I'm out from work."

"Go on ahead, I ain't stopping you." You held up your hands as Jack gave you a nod before answering the call.

As you waited, your eyes glanced over at the motorcycle once more as you carefully began to scrutinize it. Thoughts began to run through your head as questions began to make you have doubts.

"What kind of motorcycle is that? And where is the biker?"

You recently saw in a new reports that there are some new models of motorcycles, like the one you are staring at, being made in development.

However, you suppose these new models won't come out probably in the next 5 years from now, so seeing it here is definitely eye-catching indeed.

If it's custom-made or there is some rich genius out there who knows how to make a good-looking bike, who would be an idiot to just leave out here in the parking lot?

Seeing the features and nice looking paint job it has, could fetch a nice price if it was taken or put up for sale.

Suddenly, you were pull out of your daydream once you spot Jack noticing the bike in front of him in awe. The star struck expression clearly written on his face as you couldn't help but laugh at his behavior.

"I love you." He gasped out, eyes still awe struck before realizing he was on the phone with his mom.

"Yeah, I-I love you too, mom. I gotta run." He quickly spoke before closing his phone shut as you perked a brow at him.

"Something caught your eye?" You teased, as Jack continued to be fawn over heels with this bike, making you place a hand on your hip as you walk over to get a closer look.

"Hello, beautiful." His voice change into a suave tone, making you roll your eyes once more over his expression as eyed the leather seat on the frame.

"Where have you been all my life?"

"Uh, Jack?" You called out, noticing he was now getting onto the bike as you glance around at your surroundings to know if the owner might be coming back any time soon.

"All right, lover's boy. You might wanna get off the seat before the owner comes back." You said, still looking at your surroundings.

With your senses now being on full alert, you couldn't ignore the uneasy ache you felt brewing in your stomach as Jack continued to eye the bike, being struck with an unknown trance.

"Are you talking to your motorcycle?"

A girl's voice was heard, pulling Jack out of his trance and you turning your attention over to recognize one of the girls who was classmates to Jack in the same school they're attending.

"Oh, great." You mutter under your breath. The last thing you need is being reprimanded by the owner for hoarding their bike with a bunch of teenagers loitering nearby.

"My motorcycle? N-No. I mean, yes, yes! It's, uh, it's mine. But, uh, no, I'm not talking to—" As Jack continued to fumble over his words, obviously trying to be "cool guy" here, you definitely began to notice two identical purple sports cars slowly approaching from a distance.

As you notice this, you could've swore you heard a voice emit from the bike along with the rear view mirror slowly moving a bit.

"Jack." You called out sternly. Interrupting the conversation he was having with one of the girls as he looked at you confused. "Get off the motorcycle now!" You furrow your brows, holding a glare on your face as he seemed taken aback.

"W-Why?"

Before you could answer, a set of bright headlights blinded you and the rest of the group along with the sound of a car revving its engine.

Looking past the blinding headlights, you notice the two the cars you spotted across the street, staring you all down before they began to charge at you.

"Jack!" As the two girls screamed and ran away, you ran over to attempt to pull Jack off the bike until suddenly the vehicle came to life.

This made you hoist yourself in the back seat during the scuffle, clinging onto your friend for dear life as the motorcycle suddenly revved its engine and charge at the two sports cars.

Jack let out a yell as you instinctively maneuver your legs as the motorcycle zoomed past between the sports cars, hearing metal screeching off on the doors each side.

Hearing that loud screech, definitely would torn off some paint as this would pissed off the two knuckleheads who already trying to run you both over.

"Jack, you ok?" You yelled over the roaring wind, engaging the cool headed composure you endure from the military despite your heart beating rapidly like crazy. "I-I think so. What's going on, Y/n?"

"I don't know." You call out, noticing the bike driving you both out onto the main road with the two knuckleheads tailing you behind. "This motorcycle must be on autopilot or something. Do you see the kill switch?"

"Uh, no, I don't see it!" Jack yelled back, making you peer over his shoulder to see the controls in front of him. You looked at the handle on the right, and notice the red button right next to his thumb.

"That red button. That's the kill switch, Jack! Press it!"

You watch as his right hand flicked over the red button several times yet the motorcycle was still going as Jack seem to panic once more. "It's not working!"

You look around his shoulder once more to find the keys or button to turn off the ignition yet upon closer inspection, this motorcycle does not have a port for the keys to turn off the engine nor any other button to turn it off.

"What the hell? What moron design a motorcycle like this?!" You cried out angrily. With you and Jack still racing down in a somewhat empty road, you began to consider jumping off the bike.

It would be a dangerous move to make and not to mention the amount of road rash you and Jack would be receiving. Suddenly, a voice female spoke out from the bike.

"Do not let go!"

"Who said that?!" Jack screamed out, spooking the shit out of both of you as your attention was brought back to the two idiots driving now side by side.

"Hold on!" You yelled, feeling the motorcycle pumping on the brakes as the cars clashed inward with one another. Hitting each other's side doors.

After skidding a sharp right turn and pulling into a back alley, the bike slowed into a stop as you and Jack quickly jumped off the seat. "What are you?" He asked in shock.

As he said that, you stood in front of him with your arm raise protectively at his chest as the bike circle around, staring you down with its headlights.

"I don't exist." The motorcycle replied in a dead serious tone. "Tell anyone about me, and I will hunt you both down."

Hearing that immediate threat, you held a scowl on your face.

You weren't about to let this bike hunt you or anyone else you care about, but hearing the sounds of two cars engines roaring nearby, you immediately took hold of Jack's hand.

"Come on, let's go!"

Chapter 3: Unexpected

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

You felt your heart pounding inside your chest the moment you and Jack found yourselves running down an alley.

You had absolutely no idea what was going on but you needed to make sure both you and Jack were safe first.

It wasn't long before you heard the sound of tires squealing against the pavement and you looked over your shoulder to see one of the cars that was following you two moments ago, now catching up as you ran.

"Keep running, Jack!" You breathe out, the headlights from the car getting closer and brighter as you ran with everything your legs could take you.

"We don't even know her!" Jack called out over to driver, continuing to follow you both. However, not a second later, the motorcycle pulled up beside Jack as it..she drove alongside where you two are seen running.

"Hop on!" The bike yelled, prompting you and Jack to get on as all of you sped away from the two crazy drivers pursuing you.

With the bike leading you and Jack out of the alley and heading towards the highway, you glanced over your shoulder once more. Only for your eyes to grow wide in horror as you instantly notice what looks to be blasters rising out from the hoods of both cars.

"Jack, tighten your grip on the handles and duck down!"

The sound of blasters suddenly firing, force you to duck your head and press your face against your friend's back as you tighten your grip around his waist.

"Why are those guys shooting at us?!" Jack yelled, being fear stricken to now being shot at.

"There's no "us" kid. And they're no "guys." The bike responded, weaving and driving past the incoming vehicles on the highway.

"Then what are they?!" You couldn't help but ask. Despite everything that was happening, you demanded to know some answers.

Suddenly, hearing the sound of metal crashing and tires squealing, both you and Jack looked back to see a yellow sports car ramming into the two knuckleheads continuing to pursue you three.

"Friend of yours?" Jack questioned.

"Family." The bike all but answered, sensing the relief in her voice of seeing her companion.

The chase on the highway continued on for about several minutes. You were sure by now you both were driving way past the speed limit.

Not mention you still clung on to Jack for who knows how long as the wind blew roughly across your face, barely able to keep your eyes open.

Suddenly, you held in a gasp. Feeling Jack tensing from your under arms as you notice the road was closed off ahead by construction cones blocking the area.

Unable to see a path or exit off the road, you held in a scream as the motorcycle sped its engine.

Butterflies danced in the pit of your stomach, feeling you and Jack going weightless in the air as the bike jumped off the guardrail, speeding down a hill before landing harshly on a underpass below a bridge.

You let out a gasp from the breath you've been holding. Moments away from having a full blown panic attack as you found yourself getting off the bike with your legs threatening to buckle from beneath you.

"That...was insane." You said to yourself, not caring if Jack heard you or not until you heard another voice chime in.

"Cool." A boy with glasses spoke. You saw him in the distance to see he was in awe by what he saw, wearing an orange vest with jeans bagging at the ends of his shoes as Jack shook his head at him in disbelief.

"You have no idea."

Once Jack recovered from the so-called "thrilling adventure" you both just had, he took notice of your disheveled look. He saw you were taking deep breaths to calm your racing heart threatening to burst out of your chest.

"You all right, Y/n?" With all the excitement that just happened, Jack has never got the opportunity to ask in return how you were feeling...from everything, especially since you were in the back seat of the bike.

"I-I'm fine. Need a moment." Was all you could say, taking a few deep breaths to calm down. However, the tension on your shoulders stiffen again as you heard two familiar engines revving.

From the hill, you, Jack, and the boy you've just met, all watch as the purple sports cars launched off from the end of the hill before turning into what seems to be robots.

They landed on their feet with a heavy thud as the ground shook from the impact.

This was definitely something you never expected, let alone signed up for what you are already working as.

Surprisingly, the two cars that turned into robots, prompted the motorcycle who was several inches from you and Jack, transform as well.

You held in a breath to see what appears to be a determined look the bot held on her face as she locked "eyes" to the two bots standing opposite from her.

"This ends here, Cons'."

Oh my.

The three of you wasted no time getting out of the way as the bots began to engage in a fight.

Seeing what was happening in front of you, unable to believe what you are seeing, you couldn't help but pull out your cellphone.

You took a couple of the pictures of the bots fighting. You knew Fowler wouldn't believe you if didn't have proof of what you just experienced just now.

With your training kicking in, you immediately save the photos into a private file on your phone. Making a mental note to discuss with Fowler about this later, of course, if you ever get yourself out of this predicament.

"What are they?" The boy asked, sounding amazed and speechless over the fight as Jack came up with his own speculations.

"Talking cars that turn into robots. Or the other way around."

With the fight still happening, you began to analyze the situation. It was clear the motorcycle, not to mention the yellow sports car minutes ago, are clearly the good guys.

And the two identical purple armored bots were the bad ones. Suddenly, it clicked in your head as memories traced back to the restaurant moments ago.

Wrong place, wrong time.

It was now clear the motorcycle who was in the parking lot, was there to hide from those identical twins and Jack getting onto the backseat was clearly a bad move to make.

However, another string of questions began to surge within your head. Who are these bots? Why are they here? And why do they treat each other like enemies?

You were pulled out of your analysis, as one of the blasts managed to hit the blue robot in the chest. Causing her to fall on her back and skid down the pavement behind her.

With the sound of tires screeching from above, you immediately looked up to notice the familiar yellow sports car, (from moments ago) driving off the bridge before transforming into a bot as well.

You watched as he landed on one of the twins below and delivering a hard sucker punch to other guy's face.

You grimaced how loud the punch was as it mostly likely scraped off paint and pieces of metal from the bot's face as it fell to the pavement.

With the twin down, you notice the yellow one taking a couple of steps back until you heard a very loud—

*CRUNCH!*

The bot seemed to freeze at the sound of the noise. Its eyes swirl and shrunk back a bit until it lifted its foot to reveal the yellow toy car, (the boy was playing with earlier) smashed into pieces, seeing it way beyond repair.

::Sorry!::

Huh?

The way the bot spoke definitely took you by surprise. It didn't exactly "speak" using its voice like motorcycle did but you definitely understood from the boops and beeps he emitted.

The sounds were similar to the morse code you been taught from the amount of times Bryce had you listen in to radio to figure out what your enemies were saying in code.

However, it seemed like the boy next to you understood what the bot said as he gave him a reassuring look.

"No problem. Really!"

*CLANG!

A blast was shot at the yellow bot not a moment too soon as he was thrown back. Clearly being caught off guard by crushing that toy car as the two twin bots with their red visors got up and pointed their blasters at the yellow one.

"Leave him alone!" The boy with glasses shouted. This caused you and everyone else who heard him, to be shunned with a heavy silence as the two bots looked at you three with their blasters pointed over.

"Please?" The boy meek nervously, tensing his shoulders as Jack commented over the outburst.

"Bad call."

"More than a bad call, run!" You shouted. You immediately grabbed a hold of both Jack and the boy's hand, not wanting to wait any longer what will happen next as you notice a large storm drain pipe dead ahead.

Upon reaching, you helped the boy get inside with Jack getting in as the three of you began to run.

Your heart pounded even faster, being the one running further behind, you notice the bot who was following you three, now putting his hand inside the tunnel.

Its large hand scrape the concrete of the tunnel with its claws threatening to enclose around you.

Just when you thought you were about to get snatched up, you stopped in your tracks to hear metal screeching as the bot's hand was retracted from the tunnel.

Seconds later both you and Jack tense once you saw the yellow bot, peering down into the tunnel with its bright wide cyan blue eyes whirring at you three.

::Don't worry, it's safe now.:: The bot spoke, making the tension from your shoulders ease a little, however you were still shaken up.

"Thank you." The boy smiled which the bot returned the gesture in the return as Jack placed a hand over the boy's shoulder.

"Don't look back."

"What did we just see?" He asked, nervously. Making you get back into focus as you all needed to get to safety. "I'm not sure. And I definitely don't want to find out."

                 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Once the sound of metal clanging and being struck faded into the overpass, you, Jack and the boy who introduced himself as Raf, managed to find an exit as you got out of the storm drain.
You brushed a few strands of hair from your face, noticing the sun setting over the horizon as you looked at the time on your watch.
"Is anyone hurt? Jack?" You questioned, looking over to him. From the way you and him were riding on that motorcycle and being chased, you couldn't but be concerned over his safety.
"I'm fine, Y/n. Nothing a few scratches I can't handle." He smiled optimistically, trying to ease the stress each of you had endured as you let out you a sigh.
"All right," You breathed out, standing upright as you looked at the two boys standing in front of you. "I have absolutely no idea what we just saw but it's best we forget about it. I'm pretty the government has something to do with this..." You mutter under your breath.
A frown was shown on your lips as you couldn't help but wonder if Fowler or General Bryce knows something about what you just saw.
They're clearly robots, yet sentient, so there has to be someone who is responsible for making them.
"I will accompany you home, Raf. I don't like the idea of something bad happening to you for someone of your age. Jack..." You turn your head over as you gave him a pointed look.
"...have your phone ready with you at all times. If anything happens, call me immediately. Understand?"
You watched as he gave you a firm nod, taking the matter seriously as you stood protectively next to Raf. "Got it, Y/n. I'll be sure to keep my distance. Too bad our evening got ruined though."
"Not the first time things got out of hand. *Sighs* You have school tomorrow so try to get a goodnight sleep if you can...and return home before your mom begins to worry."
With the sky now having an orange, pinkish hue, you notice Jack walking off and heading into town to return back home where his house was.
As for Raf, you two began to get to know each other. You were quite surprised to find out that he goes to the same school as Jack does.
Being the little tech savvy nerd that he is, it's no surprise he's in the same grade as Jack, making you wonder if Raf would enter into any Ivy League schools by the time he graduates.
Once you followed Raf home and made sure he got inside his house, the wind blew against your disheveled hair as you let you a sigh before pulling out phone as you made a call.
"Fowler? This is Y/n, I have something very important I need to discuss with you."
Chapter Text
Silence.
A gentle but calming silence filled the base as blue cyan optics were seen peered down, concentrated on a device that was being put together.
Despite everything that happened since the war on Cybertron, Ratchet couldn't help but keep himself busy.
It was already devastating enough to process over the loss of Cliffjumper. Another deceased soldier added to his scorecard as guilt sank in every time Ratchet reflected on it.
They already lost so many during the war. So many lives...
And as the medic that he is, there was only so much Ratchet could do.
He can't fix Bumblebee's voice box, he couldn't stop the Deceptions from taking the lives of an innocent pair, who had their sparklings with them close to their chassis. In which, Ratchet couldn't do anything but stand by and watch as guilt and horror sank into his processor.
But now...he couldn't afford the time to think about that. Not when the Decepticons have finally returned after 3 years of radio silence and took their first kill of extinguishing Cliffjumper's spark.
With feelings of suppressed anger and guilt steaming in the back of his processor, Ratchet had found the competence to keep his emotions under control.
Despite how furious and angry he may be feeling, Ratchet had to focus his role as the teams's medic to be on full alert and always be prepared for any possible scenario that may occur.
He'd only have time to reflect on his personal feelings in private when he wasn't busy tinkering with own inventions or science.
But even when it came to addressing his own personal vendetta, Ratchet would avoid it if all possible by keeping himself occupied.
The sensation of his servos not holding a tool or the feeling of his digits not typing on the monitor, would give the poor medic a bit of anxiety.
He needed to have the reassurance that he was at least doing something to make things better for the team and for himself without feeling useless or failing those around him who he's considers family since they arrive to this planet.
With his optics set back on the invention he's been working on in his laboratory, Ratchet would have been preoccupied in his own train of thought, if his audio receptors didn't pick up on the sounds of three familiar engines entering inside the base.
Turning his helm over for just a moment, he noticed Arcee, Bumblebee, and Bulkhead transforming out of their vehicle modes and standing on their pedes with Optimus coming out of the corridor to greet them.
Normally, Ratchet wouldn't pay any mind if it came to another round of their comrades reporting in, but Arcee's next set of words would leave him startled.
"Humans?" Optimus's voice rang out, with a hint of mild surprise seeping into his tone.
As Arcee began to explain to the Prime of what happened during one of their patrols against the Deceptions hours ago, Ratchet wasn't at all pleased to hear of their cover being blown by stumbling across a human.
3 to be exact.
In his own mindset, Ratchet didn't understand what made the inhabitants of this planet so special.
'Humans are small and fragile' he noted, remembering the first time he glanced upon them in sight to be intrigued by them.
Yet his pride would only get in the way of ever truly understanding these small but indigenous creatures. Not only his pride, but the role he maintains as the teams's medic.
When it comes to prioritizing the safety of his own comrades, Ratchet can't afford to be distracted or have his time taken away learning about human customs.
But now that their cover has been compromise, Ratchet could only let out a heavy sigh. After hearing from Bumblebee in regard to their age these humans were described as, Ratchet determined they were just adolescents in their youth.
Meaning, this would put more workload on his plate not only to look after these 'children' but make his position as the role of medic to be even more challenging.
               ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"What do you mean you already knew?!" A fist hitting on the table was the first thing you did as you locked eyes with Fowler behind his desk.

Apparently, the moment you told Fowler about what you saw down in the storm drain, you were beyond furious. The Autobots as they're known by, have been living on this planet for a couple of years now and they are also aliens.

Seeing that the government had known about this and kept it a secret, especially from you, was beyond your understanding.

Fowler tried to explain to you that this was "way beyond your paycheck" but it didn't excuse the fact that you had the right to know.

Not only were you angry about Fowler keeping this information a secret from you, but the fact that you were worried about Jack's and Raf's safety.

It didn't help to know that these Autobots are currently in war with their enemies known as the Decepticons.

If you knew about these bots a year ago, you wouldn't have allow Jack to get on that bike in the first place. However, the moment you found yourself in Fowler's office and slam a fist on his desk, he instantly returned your gaze with a glare.

"Y/N, sit down, now!" He bellowed, causing you to sit on the chair place behind you as you obey but still held a scowl on your face.

Once Fowler saw you sit and took a moment to himself to take a deep breath, he looked at you with a calm expression.

"Y/N, I never meant to lie to you. You already have your hands full as it is to be working as a spy. The last thing I needed was for you to across the bots and put yourself at risk." He spoke.

However, it didn't stop you from giving him a retort.

"But I still had a right to know, Fowler." You glared with your arms crossed over your chest.

"You're right." He sighed, leaning his body heavily behind his desk as he looked at you. "It was foolish of me not to let you know in the first place, Y/N. But at least the bots didn't see you, so there's good news right there."

"Yeah..." You trailed, barely hiding the grimace that spread across your face as you lied to the so-called agent standing in front of you.

The moment you were about to tell Fowler everything you saw from what happen in the restaurant down to the storm drain, you realized you couldn't compromise your position as a spy by letting Fowler know about Jack and Raf.

It was already stressful enough to keep an eye on Jack while pulling some all nighters to know what criminal activity is going on Jasper, despite being a small town.

The last thing you needed was for the government to be breathing down his neck.

And besides, Fowler did keep a secret about the bots from you, it's only fair you give him the same treatment in return.

"Like I said earlier..." You announced, opening the file you had resting in your lap that showed a sketch you drew of the motorcycle back in the restaurant and the photos you took of the bots fighting, being mindful not to include the boys in the picture.

"That's everything I witness so far. Nobody else knows about these...aliens but me."

"Well, this won't help Prime in his case avoid a lecture coming from me." Fowler deadpan, taking the file from you as he looked over the evidence you provided.

"Wait, you're gonna to reprimand him?"

The idea of Fowler yelling at a two-ton bot who was twice his size and capable of crushing him, didn't hide the subtle smirk appearing at the corners of your lips, and yet be slightly worried for his safety.

However, he didn't give your question much thought as he motioned for you to rise from your seat. "It's already late. You should go home and rest, Y/N. You experienced enough action for one day."

Leading out out his office, you stood in the corridor as you still had more questions regarding the Autobots but Fowler wouldn't leave no room for discussion as he wish you a goodnight before closing the door shut to his office.

"For someone who is a spy, I'm still pretty much left in the dark." You muttered to yourself, heading down into the garage of the base to start up your motorcycle.

The motorcycle you owned a year ago, was an asset General Bryce gave you in order to help you with your missions in case you needed to make a clean getaway.

Normally, you would've kept it at home if wasn't for the urgency of reporting to Fowler immediately about the situation that you just experienced.

Now that that's over with, you started up the engine, slowly pulling out of the garage before leaving the base and giving the soldier guarding the drawbridge a salute on the way out.

You had no idea what tomorrow would bring but you hoped you won't have to see those bots again.

               ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was Friday by the time the next day rolled around.
At your house, you found yourself making scrambled eggs with toast and hash browns while listening to the news broadcasting on the tv.
The text message you sent to Jack and Raf on their cellphones, made you relived to hear they didn't encounter any trouble this morning regarding the bots from yesterday.
And since you doubt these bots would know where you and the boys live, you were glad you won't have to see them.
The rest of the day went by as you went to the university to the attend the orientation. Confirm the classes you selected on your schedule by your advisor and getting everything check off in your list from the supplies you needed.
Outside a store, you found yourself placing notebooks, pencils and markers you bought for the start of the semester in the trunk of your black sports car.
Suddenly, you heard the sound of a car's engine revving behind you. Remembering yesterday's events, you instantly reach over to your gun hostler behind the band of your jeans.
You were about to pull it out until you recognized the yellow camero pulling up beside you. It comes to complete stop before the passenger door opens to you. ::Come on in.:: The bot greeted, gesturing for you to come sit inside his alt mode as you were left confused, yet unmoved by his request.
"Ok, listen here, bud. About what happen yesterday, there's no way I'm going to—Raf?!"
You stopped mid-sentence the moment your eyes spotted Raf sitting the backseat of the car. "W-What are you doing here?" You exclaimed, surprised to see the young boy looking at you with a smile on his face.
"Bumblebee says we are needed to head to base to meet the others."
"Others?" You furrowed a brow, a sense of dread pooling at the pit of your stomach as Fowler didn't exactly specify into details how many more bots there were on this planet. "Wait, did you say Bumblebee?"
The moment you asked again, the steering wheel on the driver's console whirl to life as the bot let out some happy boops.
::That's right, my name is Bumblebee. It's nice to meet you, Y/N.::
You looked at Raf in disbelief as he gave you a sheepish smile. "I hope you don't mind. Bee wanted to know what your name was."
Now, you were left completely baffled and somewhat confused. Your first instinct was not to get into the car, but seeing that Raf was here and knowing you didn't have chance at refusing a bot that could very easily take hold of you, you didn't have much of a choice.
However, it also made you curious where the Autobots are currently living regarding their whereabouts. Until you heard anything more from Fowler, the only thing you had to worry about was Raf.
Despite these Autobots being allies and posing no harm to humankind, you still didn't trust them. However, you did want to know why were they still here if they planet back home to get back to.
With you now sitting in the passenger seat of the car, you flinched as a seatbelt was placed over you before the door closed shut.
You felt the engine of the car now speeding down the rest of road as you became even more curious to know what unknown mysteries lie ahead of you in the long run.
Notes:
Sorry for the long wait! Finals and countdown to graduation are coming up and this is only time I have the opportunity to update and write! 😪
Chapter 5: First Guests
Chapter Text
You looked out at the passing scenery in front of you to see you and Raf were being taken from the outskirts of Jasper to where the large canyons were in Nevada's desert.
From the rear view mirror on the passenger side, you spotted Jack riding on the motorcycle once more, no doubt he wasn't left much of choice either until you noticed someone sitting behind him.
Getting a closer look in the mirror, you were surprised to see a dark haired girl with pink highlights and two pigtails she had, riding with Jack in the back seat as you perked an eyebrow.
"It's been less than a day and they get their cover blown once more by a girl spotting them?"
You shook your head over the thought of these bots not being completely aware of their surroundings. Clearly lacking subtly.
Yet, you had more to add to your worries of now keeping an eye over this girl who seemed to be of Jack's age. You could tell by her enthusiasm from the back seat of the bike, she is bound to cause for trouble which means you'll need to watch her closely.
Up ahead with your attention being focus, you notice a stop sign ahead with the road split into two ways. However, upon getting closer to the dead end, your eyes grew wide as both vehicles sped past the stop sign and heading towards an enormous canyon in front of you.
You knew these bots weren't stupid, however it didn't stop you from holding your breath as the moment all of you got closer, a set of hidden doors from the canyon slid open, revealing a tunnel.
Both vehicles drove in the moment the entrance opened up, causing you to move forward in your seat from the secrecy this canyon might possess.
Soon the tunnel came to an end as you reached the main center.
Both of you and Raf were awe struck by what you saw and the moment Bumblebee lowered his window on the passenger side, your eyes immediately notice a bot with a white and orange color scheme standing by.
He seemed curious yet slightly unfazed upon seeing the new guests arriving, yet your attention was turn away by another bot appearing. This one was relatively large in size yet more robust and well built with a military green schemed on his armor.
Once Bumblebee came to a complete stop, you stepped out first and move the front seat forward to let Raf out before both bots transform from their alt modes.
"I thought there were three." The bot in orange and white spoke, walking closer to look at you four as the bike gave a snarky remark.
"Haven't you heard? Humans multiply."
"Well, she ain't wrong." You thought to yourself, finding yourself standing next to the boys.
As you no doubt expected, the girl next to you, still awed by what she is seeing, greets the robot in green standing before her just as Raf introduces himself, completely ignoring him.
When she announces her name is Miko, you were taken aback to see her running closer to the bot and boldly asking who he is.
Just as the bot answers he's Bulkhead, Miko didn't hesitate to start bombarding him with questions about his features and personality.
It was obvious from the look on Bulkhead's face he was being completely astound to Miko's questions, no doubt she is quite the chatterbox.
As you waited for Miko to be done, you took in your surroundings to notice there were catwalks and stairwells attached to platforms above and even ones closer to the ceiling.
This...base was definitely built by humans yet you can definitely tell the bots modified it by adding large monitors and equipment to make themselves more comfortable at home.
Yet judging how round the center was and how tall the ceiling is from the floor, even from where the bots stood, this was an old missile silo.
You furrowed a brow as you don't recall a silo like this being noted down in the archives nor did General Bryce mentioned about it as you live in Jasper.
Still, you didn't care if this piece of information was beyond your salary and you most certainly were gonna take your time exploring this silo once introductions were out of the way, to get an idea what the military has previously done in this base.
"So if you guys are robots, who made you?" You heard Raf speak, pulling out of your distraction to see the bot standing next to Bulkhead letting out a scoff.
"Puh-lease..." Rolling his optics as he sounded offended by the question as you already knew based on Fowler's words these guys were aliens.
Suddenly, you felt the ground shook once more as all four of you turned around to see a bot, bigger than the rest of them all, carefully approaching.
Each step he took shook the ground and once he stop, standing massively tall to almost the size of a 4-story building, you felt small as an ant to be standing this close to a 30 foot two-ton.
"We are autonomous robotic organisms from the planet Cybertron. Also known as Autobots." The leader spoke as you immediately knew where this conversation was going and hoped some of your questions would be answered.
               ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The sound of two familiar engines entering the base was picked up by medic's sharp hearing once more as he glanced away from the monitor to see Arcee and Bumblebee arriving.

Only they were expecting guests.

Upon reaching the center, Ratchet instantly noticed two humans riding in the back of Arcee's vehicle mode.

"A boy and a girl." He concluded.

From the intel he heard last night, the second child must be with Bumblebee.

The moment the scout's lowered his window upon slowing to a halt, Ratchet was surprised to see another girl sitting in the passenger seat.

However, he quickly noted based on her features she was slightly older than the children who were with Arcee. Not exactly old compare to Fowler's age but someone who is beginning to experience life as an adult.

It was when the medic notice the small and awe struck boy sitting in the back seat, that he realized a fourth human was brought to their fold.

After Arcee confirmed they brought another one, Ratchet wasn't exactly thrilled over the possible idea of keeping watch over the children.

He understood from their leader's countless talks as the titans they are to this planet, to prioritize human lives and protect humanity.

Of course, Ratchet always held up his end of the bargain when it came to following protocol from Optimus, but he wasn't naive to be taken for granted as a bot-sitter.

These children were like sparklings to him. Small, delicate, and needing supervision. Yet, Ratchet had his own responsibilities of taking care of the base, prioritizing his role as a medic and watching over his comrades.

He simply doesn't have the time to concern himself over their new house guests.

Once the humans disembarked from Arcee and Bumblebee, Ratchet was slightly offended as one of the children asked over the origin of their creation.

They were not tools or spare parts put together humans mistakenly see them as. Ratchet was his own mech with a mind he possess of his own free will.

Yet, once Optimus came forward and began with introductions over their mission and the history that prolonged Cybertron into a millennium of warfare, it didn't escape Ratchet's notice upon seeing the girl.

The one who is the oldest out of them all, to be briefly looking around the base's surroundings. She wasn't as overly enthusiastic compare to the others upon seeing their true selves as he expected.

But was more...interested in looking at the structural fissures of the base.

Ratchet furrowed a ridge at the odd intention yet didn't give much thought since this is their first time the children are meeting with them. It's bound to leave anyone curious.

Soon names were announced as everyone got acquainted. First one being Jack, Miko, Raf, and finally, Y/n. Vice versa with the bots as well.

"And since you now know of our existence, I fear that as of last night, the Decepticons know of yours." Optimus announced as he looked at the children in front of him.

"Got it. If we spot any strange vehicles, call 911." Jack quickly surmised as he glanced at the entrance to the tunnel. "Can we go now?"

You were surprised to find out Jack wanted to leave immediately yet you remembered he had curfew and needed to get home before 10.

"Are you insane?" Miko called over to the young teenager standing next to her. "I am living a dream here in bot-swana, and I will not allow you or anyone else to shatter it!"

You rolled your eyes over Miko's remark. Clearly ignoring her enthusiasm as Optimus's words sunk into your mind after discovering the reason why these bots were engaged in a civil war and why Earth is considered their target.

However upon hearing Optimus's next set of words, it leave you mildly surprised. "It is best that you four remain under our watch. At least, until we can determine our enemies's intentions."

Stay with them? No way. You had your hands full as it is to be attending college and working as a spy in the military.

You only needed to find out why they are here and now you know. Being involved in their crusade against their warfare buddies was something you were not gonna be part of. Not under your watch.

Besides, you been a spy for a year, you pretty much know how to take care of yourself in the shadows.

"Optimus," The bot known as Ratchet spoke as you glanced up at the sound of his voice. "With all due respect, the human children are in as much danger here, as anywhere."

"Children?" Both you and Jack questioned, clearly taken into offense. You were definitely not a child especially since you're 20 and only had 7 more years before graduation was upon you.

Ratchet, unbeknownst to you, clearly heard you and Jack's accusation, while addressing his leader.

"They have no protective shell. If they get under foot, they will go...squish." Ratchet paused, taking a moment to find the right words before proving his point as he moved his pede.

As much as he didn't want to have the humans here, he wasn't about to let himself take a life by accidentally stepping on someone.

It would be...gruesome if he had to deal with that.

However, Optimus wasn't one to be opposed by excuses.

"Then for the time being, Ratchet, we must watch where we stepped." The leader suggested, until the sound of an alarm went off.

As the monitors were flashing green inside the command center, getting the bot's attention to the screen, you were curious to know what was going on. "Why is an alarm going off?" You called out, hands resting on your hips as you asked.

::That is the proximity sensor. We have someone arriving on the roof.:: Bumblebee chirped, understanding the words he said as you furrowed a brow while Raf translated to the others.

"It's Agent Fowler."

Suddenly, your eyes grew wide at the mention of your boss's name. You snapped your head over and tried to look at the monitors from where you were to see a helicopter parked on the rooftop with Fowler caught walking on surveillance.

"Fowler is kill me when he finds out I lied to him." You muttered to yourself, not expecting him to arrive here while everyone else seemed confused over who the agent is.

"I-I thought we were the only humans you knew about you guys." Jack questioned, looking confused, while Optimus turned to glance at him.

"Special Agent Fowler is our designated liaison to the outside world. As he tends to visit only when there are...issues. It may be best if you do not meet him at this time."

Without hesitation, you immediately headed over to the stairwell closest to you to hide. Jack, Miko, and Raf followed suit as you tried to push your body against the wall as much as you could.

You took back that joke you made to Fowler of him reprimanding the Prime. If he saw you, boy, you were going to get an earful out of him.

Before you knew it, you heard the sound of a door swishing open and heard the loud, authoritative, voice of your boss complaining the mess that happened last night.

"7 wrecks, 34 fender benders, a 3-hour traffic jam, and a particular note; numerous reports of a speeding motorcycle of unknown make, and a black and yellow custom muscle car."

Damn, now you definitely regretted sending Fowler that report. You didn't want the bots to be in trouble nor be called a snitch for that matter.

You continue to wait as you listen to Optimus trying to reassure Fowler, no doubt this must've happen more than once.

Suddenly, you heard Bulkhead calling over to Fowler.

"Hey fleshy! Did anyone get splattered on that free way?"

"Fleshy? Don't you start calling Fowler names, two-ton." Despite Fowler having an attitude, he's still your boss.

You watched from under the stairwell to see Bulkhead ripping off a piece of equipment from a desk. You wince as you heard a spark, no doubt it's something important to be used.

"Team Prime knows when to use force, and how much to use." He finished.

Gripping the equipment tightly in his fist, you heard the sound of metal and wires bending before the claw eventually pop out.

"Bulkhead, I needed that!" Ratchet shouted. You carefully glance over to see Ratchet looking at him in disbelief, causing a smirk to appear on your face as you quietly giggle over his reaction.

"Enough!" Optimus said, sternly. Pulling you out of your distracted mind as you remembered Fowler was still nearby.

Soon enough after Optimus reassured Fowler over the situation last night, you heard the sound of the door closing again.

Prompting you and the others to finally step out of the hiding spot you four were in.

Suddenly, you glanced at the watch on your wrist. It was 6:00 pm. You remembered you needed to get your car back from the grocery store to your house and start preparing for the materials you needed as classes starts next week.

You really hoped you wouldn't get a ticket on your windshield from overstaying, if and when you get back to the parking lot that is.

Once Fowler left, you found yourself standing in one of the high rises with the kids. Making it easier to be standing at the bot's level and to avoid feeling the insecurity of being small and vulnerable.

So far as everyone seemed to be on the mend, you were hesitant to ask if you can leave the base until you notice another beep going off on the monitor.

Chapter 6: Loss

Chapter Text

A familiar yet upsetting beep appeared on the screen.

Prompting Ratchet to let out a curse, refusing to be swayed by false information.

"Cliffjumper's signal popped back online." He announced, turning to face his comrades who all held surprise and hopeful looks over his words, yet Ratchet knew otherwise.

"Who's Cliffjumper?" Miko asked, curiously. The sound of another bot's name unfamiliar to her nor to the rest of the humans standing by.

However when nobody answered over the remark, Optimus couldn't help but be taken aback.

"How is that possible?"

"It isn't." The medic answered, a scowl shown on his face, glancing back at the screen in front of him.

"Another bug! The system's chalked full of them."

Yet nobody seemed convinced over Ratchet's words as this only deepened Arcee's wishful thinking of getting her partner back.

"If there's any chance Cliff is alive..."

Unable to pass on another opportunity, Optimus ordered the medic to prepare his medical station.

If Cliffjumper is still alive, then he's barely clinging to life by a thread.

Sheathing his battle mask on and drawing his brow plates together, Optimus was ready to activate the ground bridge with his teammates until the sound of Miko's voice drew him from his focus.

"Hey! What can we do?" Seeing the girl's excitement on her face, Optimus bluntly answered.

"Remained with Ratchet."

"Aw!" Shoulders slumping and with a frown on her face, Ratchet could only express his disappointment over his leader's words as well.

"I'm not a bot-sitter," He reminded himself yet here he was with these humans at his side. And to make matters worse, once everyone left through the ground bridge, the children would begin questioning his invention.

Trying his best to keep it brief, more questions would arise upon his annoyance until an idea stroke his processor over the regard of Miko seeing her parents in Tokyo.

"Within moments. In fact allow me to send you there immediately, all four of you."

However, the girl standing before him wasn't stupid to realize his stubborn self was trying to get rid of them.

Upon hearing Miko give him a warning much to his surprise, he could only bite back on his denta to resist the urge to kick out these bothersome humans.

              ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Much to your dismay, getting back to your car would take much longer than you thought.
You were curious to know who Cliffjumper was as once again, Fowler didn't bother to fill you in during his explanation. However, you weren't deaf to notice Ratchet, was completely annoyed by you and the kid's presence.
And likewise, you didn't want to be here either.
While waiting for the others to return, Jack and everyone else began to have a look around.
Seeing this, you notice a couple of computers displayed on a desk. Which would be the perfect opportunity to gain intel on the silo since you no doubt Fowler will not give you access to the archives back at base.
Noticing Ratchet stepping away as Jack and Miko decided to wander off to have a look, you quickly but carefully pulled out a hard drive from your pocket.
You inserted into a data port and began typing a code on the computer to allow some intel to be downloaded.
With your back resting causally against the desk, covering the computer screen, you waited for the file to be completed as you noticed Ratchet returning back to the monitor.
Glancing slightly, you notice the file was reaching its endpoint but a few minutes still remained.
Not wanting to come off as suspicious or be caught in the act, you decided to make do some small talk.
Your eyes immediately noticed the ECG line on Ratchet's forearms, hinting that he is the medic of the team.
"So, you're a medic?" You announced, catching the attention of Ratchet as his cyan optics curiously looked at you. "Yes." He answered, however there wasn't a moment in the introductions that Ratchet announced what his purpose was.
"How do you know that?" Lifting a brow ridge, as you merely smiled at him.
"By the ECG line on your armor." Pointing a finger to his forearm, taking Ratchet by surprise. Seeing his face, you explained further.
"I know that because I'm studying to become a doctor."
"A doctor?" Raf questioned, turning to see he was standing a few away from where you were, unaware he already made it up the stairs once more. "What kind of doctor?"
The little genius asked, making you press your back further against the desk as you maintain your composure.
"Haven't really decided yet but I'm between being a trauma surgeon or an orthopedist."
"And here I thought you wanted to become a pediatrician." Jack spoke, a smile spread across his face as you glance slightly to see the file was completed.
Keeping your eyes on Jack, you pulled the drive from the port and let your hand stealthily type on the keyboard, putting the screen back to how it was without anyone noticing. Not even Ratchet.
"Well, I still got 7 years left to make a decision. You'll get that feeling once graduation is upon you, Jack, Miko." Noticing her coming up the high rise as she dismissively shook her head over the idea of school.
Ratchet, however, was surprised and felt his spark suddenly warmed over your words as you mentioned you wanted to become a doctor.
Hearing the terms such as 'orthopedist' or 'pediatrician', was unfamiliar to him. Yet by his limited knowledge due to his stubborn and Cybertronian pride, he didn't realize there were categories to becoming a doctor of each different subject.
He initially assumed humans studied all science and medicine under one subject. Not knowing there was more knowledge to continue comprehending.
Before his processor could perk his curiosity of human medicine, the sound of a loud beep on the monitor drew his attention. Seeing a "system overload" on the screen, Ratchet was left dumbfounded over the issue.
"How come you guys are using human computers?"
Holding back a scowl over another question being asked by one of the children, Ratchet explained once more.
"It certainly isn't by choice. It was handed down from the previous tenants when we inherited this former missile silo. I make modifications as I see fit."
Upon saying that, another set pop-ups appeared on the screens with the same message stating 'System Overload', much to Ratchet's frustration.
"I can think I can fix that." Raf meekly answered upon noticing the situation. However, Ratchet looked back at the boy full of doubt.
"Really?" His tone full skepticism, watching as Raf began to open his laptop from his backpack, connecting to the monitor.
"You know this is complex technology, don't you? I mean it isn't a child's toy." Chuckling snidely as Raf glance at the medic once more.
"Now try."
In the next moment, the pop-ups disappeared. Putting the screen back to normal as Ratchet became stunned once more before looking back at the tech savvy kid sitting in the chair.
"These humans are intelligent than I led on."
Suddenly, over the comm unit, Ratchet heard Optimus's voice projecting through. Requesting a ground bridge.
Not a moment too soon everyone arrive and you your eyes widened a bit to see a wave of blue and white flames coming up behind the group.
Ratchet managed to close the ground bridge in time, distinguishing the flames while Optimus transformed out of his alt mode in midair. Landing on his feet with a hand to the ground as he skid to a stop.
"Cutting it a bit close." Hearing Ratchet address the group. "How about Cliffjumper?"
To everyone's reaction, you held a look of sympathy. It was obvious they couldn't rescue their fallen comrade, Cliffjumper.
You were about to step back to give the bots some space until you notice Miko walking over to the railing. Noticing the look on her face, you immediately knew she was going to start asking questions.
"Ah, ah, I wouldn't, Miko. Read the room." You gently spoke, placing a hand on her shoulder to move her away from where the bots were, allowing them a moment to grieve over their loss.
As Arcee began to explained over the details of Cliffjumper, Ratchet clenched his servos tightly. He knew it was wishful thinking that Cliffjumper would still be alive.
Hearing that he was butchered from how the Cons' experimented during the war, Ratchet immediately knew Cliffjumper was beyond saving.
Perhaps if he came with the others, then maybe Cliffjumper would've had a chance. Suddenly, upon seeing Arcee collapse, informing that was she was dizzy, Ratchet wasted no time stepping in to check on her.
With his scanner going through her, Ratchet soon noticed a strange substance on her hand.
"What is this?"
"Don't know." Arcee answered, grasping her helm as she felt dizzy. "Cliff was covered in it. Leaking it."
With a scalpel in his servo, Ratchet carefully pried the substance off of Arcee before instructing her to take a decontamination bath.
As for you, you felt sorry that the bots had to lose a well beloved friend and member. You lost people too so you knew how Arcee might be feeling right now.
"O-Optimus?" You heard Jack stuttered over his words, prompting you to turn to see he had his hand raised with his cellphone. "I-I hate to bug but no bars."
"A security precaution." The leader answered, looking at Jack and the rest of you all standing in the high rise. "The silo walls isolate all radio waves."
"Well, if I don't call my mom like now, I'm pretty sure the cops will be out looking for me." Jack explained, reminding you of the time. You immediately looked at your watch to see it was already 9:30 pm.
Dang, that's how long we stayed in here for?
Hearing the sound of the cops being involved, Optimus came slightly closer to look at Jack. "Have you broken a law?"
"Oh, no, uh, curfew. It's after 10 pm." He reassured.
"I better get home too. Or I'll be grounded for a year." Raf shook head, adding more to the issue.
Seeing the worried looks on the boy's faces, you immediately knew their parents would start getting worried and you couldn't but feel a bit responsible for staying out this long.
You probably should've told Ratchet earlier to bridge you guys home when you had the chance.
"Earth customs. I hadn't considered. But the issue of your safety remains." Optimus spoke, nonetheless. Making you hold back a groan as you still didn't want to be involved with the bots.
"Bulkhead, accompany Miko home." The leader announced over to his comrade. This immediately cause the girl next to you to hold an excited look on her face. "Awesome! My host parents will freak!"
"And maintain covert surveillance in vehicle form." Optimus added after hearing Miko's enthusiasm.
"Curbside duty. Got it."
Hearing that, Miko whined, much to her displeasure. Soon you listened to Optimus instructing Bumblebee to watch over Raf. And when he turned to face where Ratchet and Arcee were...
"Ratchet?"
"Busy." The medic answered, causing you to let out a scoff. Watching as he was occupied looking at the screen.
"Arcee, you'll accompanied Jack." Optimus said, once she stepped out of her so called "bath", which Jack look uncomfortable over the idea of someone watching over him.
"Oh." Arcee sighed exaggeratedly, wanting to excuse herself out of guard duty. "Still dizzy."
"You're fine." Ratchet responded, still not looking up from his work. "Says your physician."
With everyone assigned to a bot except for you, in which, you really didn't mind, you look over at Jack as you gave him a sincere smile.
"Sorry, that today didn't go exactly as planned and I doubt we'll be having that game tournament tomorrow with...everything going on." You said as Jack didn't seem too bummed out over the news.
"Ah, it's fine, Y/n. Better get home before mom gives me a lecture."
"Yes, please do." You immediately assured him, giving him a hug before whispering something in his ear. "And give Arcee your condolences. I'm pretty she needs someone to process over the loss of her friend."
"I sure will. See you later, Y/n." Jack waved to you and not a moment too soon, Raf comes over to give you a hug as well.
"I hope I will see you tomorrow." The little nerd spoke as you chuckle, giving his hair a little ruffle as you looked at him.
"Me too, Raf. If not, I'll send you a text." You winked, causing him to smile before running to his guardian to get a ride home. "Miko," You called out, watching as she gave you a curious look.
"Sorry, that we weren't properly introduce as everything got hectic. The name's Y/n, hopefully we can get to know each other often."
You really did not. However, you wanted to get acquainted with her at least, just to know how much of a troublemaker she really is.
"Likewise, Y/n. Perhaps we can hang out here to chat more. Do you like rock & roll?" She asked, all of a sudden. Causing you to be hesitant on your answer until you heard Bulkhead waiting on her.
"Don't wanna keep you waiting. See you later!" You immediately brushed her off, waving at her as she made a dash down the stairs, getting into her guardian's vehicle as you let out a sigh of relief.
Well, at least that's over with.
"Y/n..." Optimus' voice called out to you as you felt your face paling a bit.
Spoke too soon.
You instantly knew what Optimus was about to say as you most certainly did not need a bodyguard watching over you. But before you could speak, the leader beat you to it.
"At this time, I will accompany home. However, it will be Ratchet watching over you."
"What?!"
Both you and the medic called out over Optimus's words. You were shocked and you looked over to see Ratchet turned briefly from his work station to see him eyeing at his comrade.
"Optimus, you can't be serious—"
Suddenly, a servo was raised. Silencing the medic as Optimus made his instructions perfectly clear. "Ratchet, old friend, this isn't a request. As her guardian, you will be protecting her. Understood?"
Before Ratchet could protest, you immediately spoke. "O-Optimus, this is really not necessary. Y-You're soldiers, you have your hands full as it is dealing with the Decepticons.
I'm a grown woman unlike the others, I can take care of myself. Besides, Ratchet is needed here to watch the base and be ready in case of an emergency.
Please, Optimus, I really don't need a bodyguard." You pleaded. The room was silent between the two mechs after everyone was long gone from the base.
You bit your bottom lip nervously as Optimus seemed to be considering your words. However, Ratchet on the other hand, was surprised that you would take his side.
And upon you trying to convince the Prime, Ratchet silently pleaded to Primus not to be assigned to you. He is not your charge, nor your parents nor his sparkling and he can't afford to be watching over you.
However, as Optimus still hadn't said a word over the matter, you watched as he transformed into his vehicle mode, opening his passenger door to you.
You immediately walked down the stairs and upon reaching the bottom, you looked at Ratchet who seemed to be sharing the same concerns as you are, with Optimus still not answering whether you'll get a bodyguard or not.
However, you didn't say a word the moment you stepped inside Optimus's cab as a seatbelt was automatically placed over you with the door closing shut.
The only thing you could do now was sit there silently, with your hands clasping each other tightly on your lap as you watch from the window to find yourself leaving the base.
Chapter 7: Second Thoughts
Chapter Text
The road from base to Jasper was deafening when the Prime decided to take you home after the children were sent off with their guardians.
As much as Optimus doesn't mind a quiet ride to Jasper, he didn't fail to notice the grip of your knuckles slowly gripping the sleeve of your leather jacket.
While it's understandable that this is your first time experiencing a Cybertronian, one that Optimus knew you and the children would be slightly nervous around at first, he didn't understand why you refuse his offer.
An offer of protecting a human like you, designated to a bot. More importantly Ratchet.
While at times the medic can often be devoted and find himself busy with his work, Optimus knew well as much as his comrades did, that having a small companion like yourself might do some good to bring the stubborn medic out of his shell and seek a moment of peace for once.
However upon immediately hearing your words of refusing the suggestion of Ratchet watching over you, Optimus was curious as to know why.
You weren't as enthusiastic to the other children when they had become assigned to a bot, in fact you were opposed of getting one.
With his accelerator decreasing a bit, driving a tad below the speed limit, he takes notes of your serious yet stoic look. With hazel-tinted eyes glancing outside to the passing scenery of Nevada's desert, Optimus feels his conceal brow plates furrow with one another.
"Is there—" The moment his voice modulator sounds through, your relax figure sitting rigid against his seat stiffens. Upon hearing his voice, your head snaps swiftly over to the front view mirror inside the cab.
The reaction alone with those precarious eyes, has made an effort to send a shiver down the Prime's spark. Slightly surprised that the huge bot that he is, was intimidated by your gaze meeting his view.
"My apologies, Y/n," He corrects himself, his voice modulator dropping to a softer tone, making you relax instantly once you realize he's beginning to speak to you.
"Oh, uh, it's fine, Optimus. Just got lost in my own thoughts." You admitted, allowing yourself to shift in the seat once more before realizing you interrupted what he was going to say.
"Was there something you need?" You asked, your eyes glancing at the rear view mirror as Optimus remembered the question he was going to ask.
"If you don't mind me asking, why do you oppose the idea of Ratchet watching over you?" Hearing him say that, Optimus took note of a frown spreading across your lips, your eyes looking back to the scenery once more as you let out a heavy sigh.
"I'm pretty sure I made myself clear back at the base." You answered, vaguely.
The idea of putting the conflict between the Decepticons foremost, when it's primarily the Prime's job to focus on the war rather than your own safety, spread a warmth feeling to his spark.
He understands there are greater issues that need to be taken care of, yet nothing else is of greater priority than protecting humankind, such as yourself.
With a rev of his engine bringing him back into focus, Optimus understood your modesty. "You do not need to concern yourself with matters over the Decepticons..."
'I kinda do.' You thought to yourself, continuing to listen to his words.
"It is I and the others who will oversee such issues, what matters most is regarding your safety, Y/n."
A chuckle escapes from your lips, however Optimus raised a brow over the note of your tone. It wasn't a laugh out of joy but out of sarcasm and bitterness, one the Decepticons often depicted when are they mocking him and his comrades in the field.
"Oh, Optimus, it's sweet that you worry about me but like I said, I can take care of myself." You reassured, your stubbornness continuing to be an unrelenting setback as Optimus fought back a frown.
He didn't understand why you were so obstinate when the children seem thrill to the idea of accepting their new found companions. You, however, were a different story. One that Optimus isn't able to decipher, like a piece of an encryption he's unable to crack.
Before he could inquire once more, your eyes looked back to the mirror display near the windshield.
"Better question: How come Agent Fowler isn't assign to one of you guys?" You argued, your palm raised from your lap to prove your point.
However, Optimus knew the liaison, despite the hot-tempered head he has, is capable of taking care of himself because of his military experience.
"Agent Fowler does not need protection like your four require as he is more susceptible from our enemies, due to his military and background experience." Optimus explains, however, the smile you held on your face vanished within the moment as realization dawn on you.
Optimus does not know your a spy or have received any training to these sort of things. It make perfect sense why he suspects you're as vulnerable to the children, compare to any other adult.
With the cab now returning to its familiar silence, Optimus hesitates as he speaks. "Have I offended you?"
With a shake of your head, blinking rapidly, you sit upright as you waved him off. "No, no." Stammering as you looked out the window. "I just finally understood why you need to protect me."
'You think I'm defenseless.' Thinking to yourself the moment Optimus explained the guardianship idea regarding Agent Fowler.
However, you weren't offended. You needed them to think that were a primitive average girl like Miko or Jack. You're barely entering your second year in college as you're still a young adult despite not being that experienced or mature enough like Fowler or Bryce.
With your hands running across your thighs, knowing you won't be able to get out of this situation, you consider your options carefully.
"I—I will think about it, Optimus. Regarding Ratchet."
Despite your words, the Prime casts his hidden optics to see your brows scrunched forward, your eyes shown with conflict and doubt. He can tell from your posture stiffing again, that you are...nervous.
Scared.
And it makes his spark ache as he didn't want to cause any more unnecessary trouble to leave you in distress.
Finally the town light's reached your eyes, looking around to see the semi driving past a few buildings.
Not wanting to make this awkward between you and Optimus, you change the subject by informing the Prime which directions to take.
Not long you both arrive to a grocery store up front as a single black sports car was all that was left in the vacant parking lot. Since it was already 10:00 pm, most of the stores have closed for the day with not many people driving out this late at night.
Optimus was mildly impressed to see you had acquired a means of your own transportation, yet seeing the vehicle stationed at the store and not at your home, means he must have impede the sort of tasks you were previously doing.
"I apologize if I stew your attention from your daily needs."
Given this is a store humans need to acquire food, something Optimus learned from the internet when supplies are running low, like his team's desire for energon, he hoped he hasn't cause any setbacks for you.
"Oh, don't worry about it, Optimus." You smiled, his headlights shining brightly on your Audi S8, where your tinted windows barely showed the outlines of the seats inside.
"I just bought some supplies I'll need since I'll be starting classes on Monday at my university. Didn't know Bumblebee and Raf would come to pick me up."
A hum trailed from Optimus's modulator as it slipped his mind that you and the children were attending school as part of your growing education.
He isn't a fool to realize you humans had your own daily responsibilities just like his team does, which means accommodations will be needed when it comes to the hour of your guardians supervising you.
As much as Optimus was curious to know what you are studying since the university and 'high school' the word he previously learned, are two separate institutions, he knew it was time to let you go.
"Are you certain you will be alright?" He asks, despite being late, it doesn't excuse for any unprecedented dangers lurking every corner now and then.
"Absolutely." You answered, unbuckling your seatbelt and opening the latch on his door to open.
You jumped out, your feet hitting the ground beneath you as closed the door to Optimus's cab. "Well, uh," Rubbing your hands awkwardly as you look at Autobot leader with a sheepish smile.
"It was nice meeting you, Optimus. Your team are quite the warriors. Not sure if you, Ratchet, or the others will stop by, but if you need me, I'll be here. Or ask you can just ask Jack or Raf."
"Duly noted." He answers.
With a rev from his engine, Optimus puts his semi into reverse before braking slightly to inform you once more.
"Ratchet will come by tomorrow to accompany you back to base, Y/n. I will make sure he does so."
No matter what excuses Ratchet may try to reason, it won't slip under his orders that Ratchet needs to protect you at all times as your guardian. Whether if he wants to or not.
Seeing you pressed your lips firmly, giving a nod over the information, you raised your hand as you said farewell to the Prime.
"Guess, I'll see you guys tomorrow then. Have a goodnight, Optimus." You finally say, watching as he release once last rev from his engine, his headlight blinking twice before driving back out onto the main road.
Once he was gone you reach for your car keys stashed in your pocket. Hearing the alarm disabling, you get into the driver's seat as you let out a sigh.
"What have I gotten myself into?" You whined, hands grasping the steering wheel with your head leaning into the space between.
              ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The drive back to your house wasn't long as you found yourself pulling a freshly baked bread from the toaster.

Spreading strawberry jam, dressed in your pj's, you approached your notebook on your desk as you began to jot down a new entry.

-Date: August 8, 2011

   -Location: Jasper, Nevada

"Today I encountered an alien species. These species are robotic organisms from a planet called Cybertron. These 'robots' refer to themselves as Autobots.

It happened when I waited for Jack to finish his shift at work and we both spotted a nice looking motorcycle in the parking lot. Unaware it was alien, Jack and I got caught in a bit of chaos.

After a rough chase on the highway, saving the details for later—Jack, along with two other individuals; Miko Nakadai and Rafael Esquivel were introduced to the Autobots.

There is apparently 5 Autobots I've seen—

Their leader: Optimus Prime.

Their scout: Bumblebee.

Recon and combatant specialist: Arcee

Demolition and force tactics expert: Bulkhead

And lastly their medic: Ratchet

Note: Autobot recently deceased — Cliffjumper

I never met Cliffjumper but I can assume he was either a scout or reconnaissance fighter like Arcee or Bumblebee.

However, that's not what’s important. What makes me so mad right now is Fowler and General Bryce knowing about the Autobots and Decepticons existence!

Note: The Autobots and Decepticons are in engaged in active war with each other. Leaving their home world uninhabitable, bringing the fight here to Earth."

After a writing for several minutes, you finally reach to the end of your log.

"I must not be attached to these bots. Despite their priority to protecting humankind, there will be a day an event unfolds. Depending on my orders or not, I will have to make a difficult decision whether to choose humanity or the Autobots.

No matters how bad it gets, I cannot become attached. This takes precedence!"

Ending log — Delta 6.

Closing your journal and setting aside the pen you held, the clock on your night stand reads 11:30 pm. A third quarter past the bedtime you're suppose to be sleeping, yet getting some shut eye is never an option for you in this scenario.

You blink, letting out a weary sigh before turning the lamp off your desk.

With the bedroom enveloped in darkness, you climb into the covers of your bed, forcing your muscles and mind to relax. With many thoughts circling your head, you can only about dwell it for tomorrow as you tried to get fall asleep.

As two minutes passed, you're finally out like a fuse.

The next morning, you woke up as you did your regular routine.

Being freshly showered, done with your morning jog on the treadmill and finishing breakfast, you glance at the clock on your wrist to see it was 8:00 am.

You're expected to arrive at base to meet with Fowler for another intel briefing.

Grabbing your car keys and activating the security protocol inside your house, you step outside, locking your door until you stop in your tracks.

You freeze for a moment to see on the sidewalk, an ambulance parked there. At first, you wondered who would bring an emergency vehicle here, especially in front of your house.

Until you blinked. Noticing the colors the ambulance has, orange and white, you immediately knew it was Ratchet.

With the medic noticing you standing on your front porch, his hidden optics staring you down, he felt his impatience wearing thin.

"Are you coming or not? I don't have all day."

‘Asshole.'

With a frown on your face, remembering Optimus's words, you pulled out your phone.

Thumb pressing on a button, you sent out an encrypted coded message to Fowler that you'll be out. Slapping your phone closed, you approach Ratchet with trudging steps.

Getting close to his vehicle in front of you, a bitter smirk briefly showed on your lips as your hand reached out to the door handle.

‘At least I won't have to worry about being attached to this grumpy-ass bot.'

Chapter 8: Surprises

Chapter Text

The drive back to base was stifling as the sun heating up the hood of Ratchet's vehicle to the moment he felt the small cargo sitting inside his interior.

It didn't take long for Ratchet to note down the coordinates and place where you exactly live, thanks to one of the boys, Jack—Ratchet believe, getting the intel from Arcee, the moment he parked right in front of your lawn.

However, it did fall under question why you would live one hour away from outskirts of the small town and the foundation of your home being in the middle of a desolate land surrounded in a plain field.

Nonetheless, it was none of his concern to see you from his rear view mirror, slouch against his seat. An arm propped on his door, resting your face against the palm of your hand with your eyes viewing the passing scenery.

You weren't happy to be assigned under Ratchet's care and neither was he. Yet, Optimus has been very thorough about his decision which the old medic couldn't avoid to refuse.

However, Ratchet was somewhat relive at least to see you weren't as query like the other children to be asking questions about who they were or their wellbeing, yet they had every right to during their first meeting.

Still, with his hidden optics looking ahead, Ratchet knew he still had 20 minutes to arrive at base and even though it doesn't seem long, the vacant road ahead of him seem to stretch on for miles. No matter how much he drives, it just won't seem to end.

Soon, the silence inside his cab was starting to reach a breaking point where Ratchet can feel and see your fingers drumming a pattern against your knee, noting that you we're getting anxious and impatient enough to be here.

However, before Ratchet could began speaking with a sentence starter, you beat him to it.

"Just how long am I going to be inside the base, Ratchet? If I'm going to be under your care, I should at least be there no more than two hours." You spoke, the sarcasm and irritation laced in your voice, confirming you definitely weren't thrill to be heading there.

And Ratchet himself, actually paused to take your words into consideration. He definitely didn't want to waste up his time keeping an eye on you and Optimus didn't specifically say how long everyone is supposed to watch their charges.

Considering the suggestion of no more than two hours, Ratchet took up on your offer.

"I find myself in agreement." He spoke, his voice modulator coming from inside his interior as the Autobot insignia flash from his steering wheel as he spoken.

However, you were caught off guard by Ratchet so easily taking your suggestion, prompting you to raise an eyebrow.

'Well that's a first.'

Adjusting your position against the seat, you lift your forearm. The jacket sleeve shifting back to reveal your watch which shows 9:10 am. If you managed to leave the base by mid afternoon, it will give you plenty of time to meet up with Fowler and take care of other stuff you needed to do.

Hearing Ratchet's words, you then say, "Good. Then I will chill inside the base while you do your other needs and once the two hours are up, you can drop me back at my place."

Ratchet, himself, once more was taken aback by your words. As far as human customs go, it took him a nano-klick to understand why you would be cold inside the base until it clicked that you merely be sulking until the two hours are up.

'Humans and their colloquialism.'

Muttering under his breath, yet nonetheless, he will not argue on the terms you both agreed on. Which Ratchet has to do is keep watch, supervise, and protect you and that's it.

It certainly isn't his business to know what other matters you need to attend as he is busy with his own.

Soon his hidden optics notice the familiar towering canyon in front of him. With the concealed doors opening and driving past the tunnel, it wasn't long before he came to a stop and you stepped out his cab. Giving him space as he transformed out of his vehicle mode.

"Now remember," His voice firm, noticing the deadpan look you held on your face as Ratchet resisted the urge to roll his optics at you. "Do not touch anything. Just be quiet and let me continue with my work."

"Got it." You answered, noticing the stairs next to you as you began to walk over to them. "Not like I need to be told twice." Muttering under your breath which Ratchet was able to pick up with his sharp hearing, finally stepping away from you as he had enough.

'She's quite bothersome. I will never understand why Optimus assigned her to me.'

Approaching his work station, Ratchet began to redirect his focus on the compound that affected Arcee after what happened with Cliffjumper.

As for you, once making it to the top of the stairs, you discovered an area which is made for humans to lounge in. There was a yellow couch. Slightly worn out and wasn't pretty either, something you find in a mechanic's garage.

A boxed tv with an antenna on top that looks from the early 2000s, surrounded by bookshelves and large speaker on the right. An armchair, same color as the couch and a tall desk nearby with a technics mash cd player on top and a fan.

And finally there was the coffee table, except it wasn't one since there are four concrete blocks supporting a large thick wooden slab. Not even polish off.

'Yeah, definitely cozy.'

And you seen worse living room ideas than this. Either way, you decided to rest on the couch, finding it was surprisingly comfortable and you began to glance up at the large daunting ceiling that reached the base.

Seeing the catwalks and rafters beams supported there and looking back to see Ratchet, what appears to be a microscope, using it for his work.

You'd be busy too with your laptop and the daily files Fowler assigns you if it wasn't for Ratchet unexpectedly disrupting your schedule and picking you up that morning.

With you being bored and only answering a few messages from Fowler why you couldn't come to base with an excuse, you suddenly remember the data drive you plug into the computer to get schematics on the Autobot base.

But of course, it's at home and you weren't sure if exploring the base is ideal since it's huge and no doubt leave you walking for hours at most. Plus, it's not like Ratchet would give you a tour either if you asked.

With no other option left, you simply decided to let your head rest against the couch and close your eyes. Two hours should go by in a flash and you seriously didn't want to be here.

                 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Meanwhile Ratchet begin to take mental notes in his head, his optics looking through the microscope and adjusting it every now and then. Taking the size and shape of molecules of the goo that affected Arcee and the morphology as well.
He was halfway through his own analysis until Ratchet heard what sounded like metal falling on the floor. Lifting his head up, Ratchet spotted to see you resting on the couch, relaxed, before turning his gaze to the corridor.
You, of course, definitely heard that noise but kept your guard up, waiting to see if something else would occur.
Ratchet, like you, remained alerted yet he return his gaze to his microscope nonetheless.
But then another sound hit his audial receptors of metal clicking together. Knowing it wasn't a coincidence. This made Ratchet lift up his helm, his brow ridges furrowing together.
He briefly glanced at you to now see your concern expression, eyes staring where the sound emanated from. Which made Ratchet glance to where your gaze was at, staring at the corridor once more. "Optimus?"
Aside from him, you, plus the Autobot leader, nobody else should in base yet. It wasn't until the sound of your voice warning him in time, that Ratchet quickly turn around to see the grappling claw, that Bulkhead tore off during that briefing with Fowler, made his optics widen slightly to see his own invention.
Alive, disfigured and hissing, in the air attempting to strike him. With his reflexes, Ratchet managed to dodge away in time, grabbing a metal pipe in the process.
Seeing what is happening, you stood from the couch watching as Ratchet was using the pipe like a folded magazine cover to attempt to crush the spider bot, like an insect on a kitchen counter, near the monitors.
Of course that sneaky little creature was quick to avoid Ratchet's hits and your blood went cold when it stared at you.
'Shit.'
You barely had time to react when the spider bot launched in the air and was attempting to attack you next. Your training kicked in and you instantly move out the way as the bot landed where you were. It hissed at you yet without wasting any time, you ran over and jumped about 18 steps over the stairwell.
Bracing your knees, you landed. Grunting a bit from the impact and doing a barrel roll in the process. Knowing your quadriceps and ankles will be screaming at you later.
However it was far from over as the bot was about to launch at you again until Ratchet managed to hit it once more. You let out a sigh of relief, watching it land on the monitors again.
And Ratchet certainly didn't waste time trying to destroy it. Not after his spark nearly stop when he saw his own invention targeting you in the process. However when the little bug sneak around and slice the microscope in half with its tendrils, Ratchet exclaimed in horror and outrage.
Another one of his equipment destroyed.
"I needed that!"
But the thought of his damaged microscope was short lived as Ratchet let out a yell. Without thinking he raised his servo as a shield to protect you, which you were still standing on the second level of the staircase.
Ratchet, somehow, managing to lose the pipe in the process, stood back and could only raise his other servo to protect his faceplate as the creature let out a growl. Bracing for the impact, he held a steady look as the spider bot was in the air until a blast shot rang out.
'Optimus.'
Ratchet let out a sigh of relief. Seeing his disfigured invention on the ground, recovering the impact Optimus fired from his cannon. It was about to make another attempt until the Prime forcibly stomped on the little thing, ending any chances of it trying to attack again.
"And stay broken." Ratchet pointed a finger at what was left of his disfigured invention. It wasn't until the thought of you jumping over the stairs hit his processor. Which made Ratchet briefly look back over his shoulder to see you patting away the dust off your pants with the back of your hands.
You were...surprisingly calm as Ratchet noted, when you looked at him. In most situations, one would be panic and be frighten over a situation like that, yet thanks to your training, you manage to say, "Don't worry, I'm fine."
It made Ratchet's concern eased for the moment, yet jumping that many stairs and taking that much absorption from the impact, Ratchet knew it leave you a bit rattle. Regardless, knowing you were safe, he now turn his attention back to the situation that happened. "Now what could've caused that?
In response, Optimus removed his battle mask as he spoke. "I have a grave suspicion, Ratchet. Dark Energon."
