Chapter 1: A Dangerous proposal

Chapter Text

Damian Wayne was a planner. At seventeen, he was already a master tactician, trained by the League of Assassins and refined under the mentorship of Batman. His missions were flawless—precise, efficient, and without unnecessary risks. This upcoming mission with Jonathan Kent, his longtime partner as Superboy, was supposed to be no different.

Except, of course, Jon had thrown a wrench into everything.

“You brought him?” Damian hissed the moment he spotted Jay sitting beside Jon at their rendezvous point. His green eyes narrowed, scanning the older man with clear displeasure.

Jay had his arms crossed, glaring back at Damian with equal irritation.

“Nice to see you too, Robin,” he said, voice dripping with sarcasm.

Damian shot a look at Jon, his irritation barely concealed. “Why is he here?”

Jon rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly. “Look, Jay’s been feeling—uh—worried. About us. I thought if he saw us in action, he’d realize there’s nothing weird going on.”

Jay scoffed. “Oh, worried? You mean I was sick of watching you run off at all hours of the night with him like he’s your second damn boyfriend?”

Damian’s patience snapped. “That is the single most idiotic reason I’ve ever heard to bring a civilian onto a classified mission!” His voice was razor-sharp, but Jon, being Jon, didn’t flinch.

“Jay’s not a civilian,” Jon argued. “He can handle himself.”

Damian clenched his jaw. “Handling yourself in street fights is different from an undercover infiltration mission where stealth is crucial.” He exhaled sharply, his fingers twitching with the urge to pull out a batarang and throw it at Jon’s face. “Tt. You should’ve asked before bringing dead weight along.”

Jay bristled at that. “I can shoot, I can fight. I’m not some idiot.”

“That remains to be seen,” Damian muttered before pulling up the mission brief. “Fine. Since you’ve decided to ruin the plan without consulting me, I’ll have to rewrite everything to compensate for your boyfriend’s presence. And you—” He jabbed a finger at Jay. “—stay in line. If you screw this up, we’re all compromised.”

Jay rolled his eyes. “Yeah, yeah. I get it, ‘oh great tactician.’ Just get us inside already.”

Damian wasn’t convinced. And in the end, he was right not to be.
