Chapter Text

It was a normal day at the hospital, with patients coming into the walk-in with various aches and pains, sickness, and other ailments. Will was a doctor at this hospital, one of the best, people would say. He didn't let it affect his ego, though, because deep down he knew he could have done better. Today was supposed to be a regular day at the hospital, but he had no idea how weird it was going to get.

Will had a patient waiting for him with a case of fainting spells and a sickness that needed to be diagnosed. He quickly looked over the report and didn't pay much attention to it before going into the office ready to meet his new patient.

“Good morning sir, I hear that you have been having… some… trouble.” Will looked up from his clipboard, locking eyes with his new patient.

It was none other than Nico di Angelo. A face that he thought he'd never see again. His former lover's eyes widened and his face flushed, obviously not expecting Will to be his caretaker. Will paused for a few moments, collecting his thoughts. He did a U-turn right out of the office, closing the door. Will slumped against the wall, pinching the bridge of his nose.

Why? Why was he here? After all those years how was it possible that they ended up in the same place? The blond moved to New York after falling in love with the place in college. How could Nico possibly be in the same area? He looked at the chart and of course, Nico's name was right at the top of it, one of the parts that he had only skimmed passed, not bothering to read.

He took a couple deep breaths before going back into the office. “Okay, Mr. di Angelo, uhm, can you tell me about your symptoms?”

Nico seemed to be at a loss for words for a few seconds. “Oh, uhm, yeah, uh, I have been fainting a lot lately, and, and I've been getting uh headaches a lot, pounding ones, like migraines, ones I can't really ignore- I've been feeling very weak lately, I was barely able to get up out of bed this morning.” He didn't hold eye contact with Will for very long, he just kept on glancing at him before averting his gaze.

Will nodded, this was not the time to let past feelings come through, he had a job to do. Will looked at Nico's chart, he was standing at a whopping eighty-nine point six pounds, and his height made him severely underweight. Will didn't like that, back in college he was always very thin and didn't eat much but this, this was far worse. But Will didn't jump to conclusions just yet.

“May I do an examination on you?” Will asked.

“Yeah, yeah…” Nico nodded, squirming around on the examination table.

Will took out his stethoscope, placing it on Nico's back. “Okay I need you to take some deep breaths for me.”

The black-haired man took some labored breaths, his lungs were fine but Will could feel the bones underneath his skin. Will placed the stethoscope underneath Nico's shirt to check his heartbeat. It was slow, only fifty-six beats per minute.

Will sighed, placing the stethoscope around his neck. “You have a slow heart rate, but your lungs sound fine. I'm going to examine your chest and abdomen. If that's alright with you, please lie down.” Nico laid down before lifting up his shirt hesitantly. Will put some gloves on before beginning to feel around his stomach. “Tell me if anything hurts.”

Will could probably count the ribs on him, he was severely thin and it broke Will's heart to see him like that. Will kept stealing glances at Nico's face, he looked the same as he did back in college except he looked older and scarily thin. He was dashingly handsome but seeing how his body was, was almost too much to bear. But on the bright side, everything seemed intact.

Will continued with the examination before taking his gloves off and throwing them away. “We're going to need to do some blood work, I'll have a nurse get that done for you,” Will said he was trying to be professional but this was all too much, he felt like crying at the sight of him.

Will left the room telling someone to get on Nico's blood work before going to the break room, slumping down in the chair, he put his face into his hands before just sighing, getting back up, going down to the filing room before getting on a computer, searching up Nico's medical history. Apparently, Nico was diagnosed with Anorexia Nervosa about seven years prior, he had been to two eating disorder facilities but they obviously didn't help. He thought of the times Nico would refuse food or just eat something light. He should have known. No time to beat himself up about it now, he had a job to do.

After Nico's blood work was done and finalized Will looked at the chart, he was lacking in everything. He needed help immediately. Will came back into the office and sat down in a chair. Nico didn't look at him, messing with his skull ring.

“Nico… have you been starving yourself?”

Nico looked up at him with fear in his eyes, “what? No- I-”

“You don't have to lie to me, you're severely underweight, all your vitals are dangerously low and your heartbeat is so low I just… I can't. Nico, I need you to be honest with me. Have you been starving yourself?”

Nico's lip quivered, “I-I tried to get better… I did but, I just found comfort in it, I can't stop.” His voice wavered saying this

Will sighed, “I'm going to have to send you to urgent care, you need fluids fast.”

Nico put his hands to his face. “No, no, I can't go back there, they'll send me away! Please don't.”

“They won't, they're going to give you an IV until you're stable then give you a meal plan you'll have to follow, you'll have to do checkups after that and if you do better you'll be fine.”

Nico didn't say anything for a moment before looking at Will. “Really?”

“Yes, I promise, if you don't want to go I won't let them,” Will said earnestly.

Nico nodded. “Okay… okay… I'll do it then.”

Will nodded, getting up, “it was nice seeing you, I'm sorry about all of this…” he said softly before leaving.

The ambulance picked up Nico, and Will was back to work, a nurse came up to him after a while and tapped him on the shoulder.

“Dr. Solace? I found this in the room I was getting ready, usually, I'd throw it away, but I feel like you should see this.” the nurse said, giving him a slip of paper.

Will frowned, unfolding the piece of paper. It was a phone number with a little note at the bottom.

‘Thank you, for helping me, Will’
