Chapter Text
College was supposed to be the years of our youth, right? At least that's what Will thought. Partying, working towards your dream, love, sex. It seemed like a dream come true. Well, it was. It was. Everything changed that one fateful night. That stupid night where everything got flipped around.
Parties. Parties are supposed to be fun right? It was fun. Everyone was drinking, smoking, or both. Will himself was a bit tipsy but not drunk enough to make any bad decisions. Or so he thought.
“Will! Come play truth or dare with us!” Malcom called from across the room, obviously smashed beyond belief.
Will smiled, he was known for always picking dares and doing the worst of the worst. No matter how gross or risky it was. Whether that be stealing his mom's liquor and driving down the highway drunk to TPing the principal’s house to making out with the person on his left, he was all for it, it excited him, it was fun!
“Alright, alright, someone hit me!” Will said, sitting down on the couch.
“Truth or dare?” Kayla asked.
“Hmm, I mean, I have to pick dare don't I?”
And so it began, from licking toilet seats to drunk texting his friends, it seemed that nothing could slow this adrenaline junkie down. That was until Connor Stoll had a specific dare for Will. Something that would change Will’s life for the foreseeable future.
“Okay, okay, okay, truth or dare?” Connor asked.
“Hmm, tough one, maybe… dare.” Will grinned.
“I… dare you to go out with… him,” he said, pointing to a skinny guy with dark black hair, and eye bags for miles.
He had on a bomber jacket which was a bit weird, and a skull shirt with ripped black jeans. If he was going for the whole emo thing, he was definitely doing a pretty good job. He wasn't unattractive, he was rather handsome looking but gave off a certain vibe that did not sit well with Will. He was in the corner of the room, with a cup just looking out at everyone, he looked scared out of his mind. Maybe nervous? Will recognized him from his math class though, maybe a few others but he wasn't positive and his brain wasn't working properly due to the alcohol.
“Who is he? Why is he even here, he's not doing anything, just… standing there.” Will mumbled.
“That, my dear, is Nico di Angelo. He's a weirdo! Sulking around everywhere, he basically has no friends, and all he does is write in that journal of his.” Connor said before gasping. “If you got your hands on that journal you need to show us!”
Will hesitated, this dare was more than affecting his life, it would affect others around him too. “I don't know…”
“Come on, only for a week or two! Or are you chicken, bok, bok, bok!” Travis started clucking at him and the others joined.
Chicken? Oh no, he was no chicken.
“Fine! Okay! Hey! I'll go ask him out right now!” He said, chugging the rest of his alcohol, he could not be sober for this.
Will got up swaying a little before finding his footing. He went over to where Nico was who froze up once he realized someone was coming in his direction.
“Hey… Nico right? I'm Will, I was wondering if I could get your Snap or something like that. You're beautiful and I would be an idiot if I passed up an opportunity to talk to you.” Will sounded so genuine, he was a good liar. He had learned how to get out of tough situations.
“What? You want my- why?” Nico's eyes widened with disbelief.
“I told you! I thought you were really pretty and wanted to get to know you better.” Will smiled.
Nico's pale face was pink with embarrassment. He eventually nodded. “Yeah, um okay, sure.” He said before giving him his Snapchat.
“Thanks, maybe we can meet for coffee tomorrow? How does eight AM sound?” Will asked.
“Perfect.”
“Great, see you then,” Will gave him another one of his signature smiles before going back to the group.

Will woke up with a bit of a headache trying to remember what he did last night. A ping from his phone jogged his memory as he got a good morning message from Nico.
Oh, that's what happened.
Will groaned, he guessed he had to be friendly with this guy if he was to date him. What a stupid dare. It felt weird trying to pursue someone that he didn't want to date. But a good morning message to wake up to was nice. He was surprised that he woke up before him. Did he even go to sleep?
Will opened the message and it read out ‘good morning! I hope you got home safely. I was wondering what coffee shop we were going to meet up at?’
Will smiled a little at the text before telling him to meet him at the coffee shop near the library. He felt a bit bad for leading on this poor dude but he couldn't lose this dare. His credibility was on the line. Will got up, getting ready for his ‘date’ before going down to the coffee shop.
Will saw Nico sitting down next to the window, looking out of it, he looked in a state of daydreaming and he wasn't sure if he wanted to interrupt. He sat across from Nico who was startled by Will's sudden movement.
“Oh! Hey! Sorry, I didn't see you there,” Nico apologized.
“It's alright, do you want to get a coffee?” Will asked.
“Yeah,” he nodded, getting up and the two went over to the counter.
Will ordered a sugary caramel frappe and Nico ordered a plain black coffee. Before Will could pay for their drinks Nico slid his card into the chip reader.
“I don't like people paying for me, plus, you invited me out, might as well do something nice in return.” He said, with a soft smile.
“Oh, um, okay, thanks,” Will said, rubbing the back of his neck.
They went back to their table and Will sipped his coffee. “So, what's your major?”
“I’m getting my associates in mortuary science and funeral service…” Nico said. “Maybe work as a mortician or something like that, death fascinates me.”
Okay… so he is a weirdo.
Will just nodded a little. “That's interesting, well, I want to be a doctor. I'm getting my doctorate in medicine and surgery. We're kind of like the opposite in our career decisions, I'm saving lives, you're dealing with the dead.”
Nico nodded, sipping on his coffee. “Yeah, I guess so…” he paused for a moment. “So what made you want to ask me out? I mean, we never spoke before, it's sort of out of the blue isn't it?”
Will kept himself from making a face as he thought of a reason. “Well, I just saw you at that party and I don't know if it was the alcohol, but I just needed to talk to you.”
Nico was quiet for a while but nodded, “I hope you don't regret your decision then.”
“I definitely don't,” Will said, giving him that blinding smile of his. “So what were you doing at that party anyways, no offense but you seemed sort of out of place.”
“Oh, that's because it was in my dorm room. Percy always throws parties and I get stuck in them, though usually I go somewhere else for the time being but… I didn't this time, I guess we'll call it fate.”
“You're roommates with Percy? That must be so cool! Isn't he graduating this year? You're going to be all alone.” Will frowned.
“Yeah, it's also my freshmen year, so I need to find a place by next year on campus or my scholarship won't take.” Nico sighed. “Or find a new roommate, but I don’t know.”
“That sounds difficult, I hope you can find someone.” Will hummed.
The boy's conversation flowed easily, and Will was enjoying the time he spent with Nico. Weird. With the occasional morbid joke from Nico, everything else about him seemed pretty alright. He hadn't had a conversation like this in a long time. It was… weird.
