Work Text:
There have been a couple poisoning incidents lately, they are being investigated but I do doubt that they will find anything. I mean they don’t even know if it was someone else that poisoned them or if they did it themselves. They don’t even have a lot to go off of…. oh well.
When I wake up I get dressed and go to make my breakfast I put the tea kettle on the stove to boil the water, while its boiling I get a biscuit and before I can get the peanut butter from the cabinet the water finishes boiling, so I go to get it and add two teaspoons of white tea and two teaspoons of camellia bud then so the tea isn’t to hot I let it cool, and go get the peanut butter to put on my biscuit. But before I could grab the peanut butter the phone rang, I sigh, so many interruptions this morning. So I picked up the phone and grabbed one of the jars of honey.
“Hello this is Jen who am I speaking to?” I say in my sweetest voice.
“Hello Miss Jen, this is officer Gillings” A gruff voice responds with “I am calling to ask you some questions about the poisonings.”
I look at the honey I grabbed and see that I had grabbed the one with the red label, I shake my head and go to grab the one with the green label.
“While I would love to answer your questions I would like to know if I'm being questioned as a suspect?” I pour my tea into my mug with the cute little bee designs on it.
“No, we just found that at all the poisonings there was the same honey and you are the one in town that has bees, so I just wanted to know about the honey” Officer Grillings answered in a kinder voice, as he spoke I poured some of the honey into my tea.
“Of course,” I beamed. “ Come over at three and I'll make some cookies and I'll make my special tea.”
“Okay Miss Jen, I'll be there at three. Goodbye Miss Jen” Officer Grillings says and then hangs up.
I put my phone down and drink my tea while I look out at my garden, I see the bees on the flowers and smile.
At 2:30 I start making the cookies, as they are in the oven I make the tea. I boil the water and when it is done I put the white tea and camellia bud in the tea. While the tea is cooling down I take the cookies out of the oven and put them on a flower themed plate. At 2:50 I pour the tea in two bee mugs. I put the red labeled honey into one mug and the green labeled honey into the other mug. I set up the outside table by putting the cookie plate in the middle and the two mugs on opposite sides.
2:58 There is a knock at the door, I go and answer it with a smile.
“Hello Officer Gillings, come and sit in the garden and we can talk.”
“Hello Miss Jen, thank you for finding time to talk with me.”
I led him to the table in the garden with a sickly sweet smile.
“So Officer Gillings, what questions do you have for me?” I ask picking up my mug.
“Well Miss Jen, as you know there has been a couple poisonings in town and we have found that in every home there was the same jar of honey” he takes out the jar of honey and hands it to me “I was wondering if you could tell me if this could have anything to do with the poisonings”
I take the jar and look at it for a minute, it was a normal honey jar, it was a small jar with a green label. With a smile I stated “yes I have heard. It’s horrible that they are dying, but there have been things coming out about the people that have been poisoned. A lot of bad things that they have done, it makes you wonder if they died because of what they did.”
Officer Gillings got an uncomfortable look on his face, “well yes there has been things that have come out about these people, it still doesn’t mean that they should have been poisoned. There are better ways to deal with people who do stuff-”
I let him keep rambling because there was no way to change the way he was thinking, I learned that a while ago. I continue to sip my tea as I admire my garden. It was beautiful with all the exotic flowers that I had, it really made for good honey for my bees. I couldn’t wait to get more bees next week, a friend would be getting me the money today to pay for them. I looked back at him, he had stopped talking and was sipping his tea. Good.
I take a deep breath, “well officer Gillings, I’m sorry but there really isn’t anything I can tell you about this honey,” I pick up the jar “I can’t tell you anything unless I know what flower the bees made it from.”
Officer Gilllings sings and sets his mug down, “well that is unfortunate, I really did wish we could get to the bottom of these killings.”
“Well you may be closer than you think. I mean you have done something yourself, just had the people poisoned. You’ll have to keep an eye out” I smile sweetly as I set my mug down.
He tensed up “All of what was said wasn’t proven.”
I nod
There was silence for sometime before he started to look very uncomfortable. “I- I’m sorry for asking but are you sure the tea was expired or something, it doesn’t taste as sweet as usual,” officer Gillings rubs his throat.
I smile less sweetly this time, some may say maliciously “I think you just need to lay down, you should feel better after a few minutes. I mean that’s what you said to Shelly.”
His eyes widened a panicked look on his face “I um what- what are you s- s- say- saying?” He started choking as he tried to ask his question.
I chuckled, throwing my head back a little and sighing as I looked at him to explain “Should have just come clean when they asked you about her, would have saved you a lot of pain.” My eyes saddened as I remembered her, Sasha was her name.
Sasha was beautiful with her long black hair and hazel eyes, she was a sweet and kind woman, always helping when she saw someone in need. Of course she had her own secrets, I mean she did learn from me, but she would have given someone the clothes off her back if they let her.
And now she was dead.
Because of him.
I look at him with disgust and explain “I’m the one poisoning people, I was doing it to have them pay for what they’ve done. Just like I’m doing to you,” I look down at him watching him choke on the poison. Watching him die just like all the others, the sound never got any better but got more tolerable over time.
Once I was sure he was dead I went to the kitchen to call officer Shawn. “Hello Shawn, the deed has been done.” I could only hear tears and noises of joy. If taking a horrible man's life is what it took to make him happy again then I would do it again and again.
As I waited for Officer Shawn to get here I cleaned up everything, the tea got dumped, the honey got put away taking extra care to the green labeled jar, making sure it was put away right. Didn’t need any accidents with the honey.
After 20 minutes I opened the door to a crying Officer Shawn. And I knew at that moment that I made the right decision.
The next few hours were filled with getting Officer Gillings body off my property and to the morgue to determine cause of death, everyone knew it would be “Natural causes” so there was no need to worry. Shawn tried to give me money a few times, I said no as I don’t need his money and all I wanted was to see him smile. We had tea, without the honey this time.
