How they ended up here again, Damian doesn’t really know, but he can’t help being secretly happy about it. Sitting next to Raven on the Ferris wheel as their seat works its way to the top, seeing her awe filled eyes as they take in the sights again.
He’d been dragged here by Grayson and Starfire. He didn’t want to come, not wanting to deal with the crowds today, but Grayson wouldn’t take no for an answer.
It didn’t help that Starfire decided to tell him how Raven only agreed to come if he did.
Even though he’s certain she was lying, he couldn’t risk Raven missing out on a problem free night.
This little fair was specifically set up on the chaos free night of Gotham. He still doesn’t quite know how his father managed it, but everyone agreed to keep things nice and quiet tonight to allow Gotham to have this fair. His father is still patrolling along with Todd and Drake as a just in case, but there were a list of repercussions for if things went wrong.
Nobody expected tonight to go wrong.
Damian still didn’t want to come, but when Raven smiled at him when he let himself be dragged to the car, he didn’t glare at her. Instead, he tucked his smile into his hoodie and huffed at Grayson as he was practically thrown into the backseat of his brother’s car.
He and Raven rode with Starfire and Grayson while the others rode with Beast Boy as he’d gotten his license and a car. He was showing off his Beastly ride as he called it.
Nobody teased him about it because he’d been dealing with his latest break-up, and at least with this, he seemed to be doing better than he was at the beginning of the week.
The car ride was silent, and Damian mostly glared out the window while Grayson and Starfire attempted to keep the conversations going, even when Raven stopped replying in favor of staring out her own window.
But now, Damian watches Raven, unable to take his eyes off her as the ferris wheel goes around once, twice, and slows with them at the top as people start getting off and getting on.
He’s glad he came, even if this is all that happens. His care for the woman smiling so brightly as she looks out at the bustling little fair far outweighs any hope for kissing her at the top of this ferris wheel.
His feelings for Raven have finally settled to a point where he can control himself, even if it still sometimes aches to see her so happy when he’s unable to share in that happiness the way he wants, hugging her tightly, kissing her, holding her hand and feeling her squeeze it…
Damian looks away, his eyes finding his idiot brother’s as he stares up at them with that ridiculous smirk. Grayson, and his idiot family, know too much. He’s certain that’s why he shoved him into the seat after Raven sat down with the intention of riding with Starfire. Grayson claimed it was work, but Damian knows better. He’s got a comm in his ear and has continued to switch between channels just to check in this whole time.
“Why don’t you kiss her, baby bird?”
Damian tenses up harshly as he narrows his eyes down at Grayson who arches a brow up at him.
“Grayson, I'm going to slice you in half,” hisses Damian under his breath as he glares down at his big brother.
“That ferris wheel isn’t moving again until you finally confess.”
His eyes widened in surprise because that is Todd’s voice.
He turns his head, eyes moving every which way to try to find his other idiot older brother.
He spies someone standing on top of the Bookstore across from the fair, and he grumbles, “Todd, you’re so dead too.”
“Now, now, little Dami isn’t going to make a move unless Raven gives him a hint. Even then it’ll just be words.”
“Drake, I swear to fucking god,” Damian growls under his breath as he tries to find the other idiot. Of course, they’re being dickheads right now. “I told you dumbasses that I would not help you with your ridiculous bets.”
“Damian? What’s wrong? Do you see something?” Raven’s voice snaps him out of his search and he turns to her in surprise, freezing with wide eyes when their noses brush as he turns to look at her. “Oh, I- I’m sorry!”
“Don’t,” says Damian quickly as she backs away, trying to reassure her despite the way his heart is thrumming loudly in his ear. “You don’t need to apologise, you did nothing wrong. I’m sorry for turning so fast. And nothing’s wrong out there, it’s just that my idiot brothers are torturing me through our comms.”
“Oh?” says Raven quietly before her lips curve into a soft smirk. She leans forward dipping to the side so her lips come close to his ear. “He’s mine right now, Bats, leave him be, or else.”
Damian is frozen as she dips back, but not far enough as their noses brush and she smiles gently at him.
He can hear his brothers losing it on the comms, but all he can ask is, “Why?”
“Because Damian, I want you to be comfortable, and you haven’t been for the last few minutes,” murmurs Raven gently as the ferris wheel jolts making her tilt forward, their lips a hair's-breadth away as her hands land on his shoulders. “What the heck was that? Sorry, I didn’t mean to completely invade your space.”
“Don’t worry about it,” murmurs Damian as he rests a hand on her hip before looking down. “Looks like someone is swinging their seats. Also, Grayson looks pissed.”
“-am pissed! Some idiot is running through the fair and stealing candy!”
“It’s just another kid, wing, don’t get your panties in a wad.”
“I’ve already got his mom on the way, chill out Big Bird.”
“Our nicknames are actually atrocious, why am I only noticing this?” mutters Damian with a short as he shakes his head lightly before freezing again when his nose knocks against Raven’s. “Ah, sorry.”
“You’re okay, don’t apologise,” Her voice is so soft that he shivers as her breath ghosts over his lips.
The urge to kiss her is about to kill him.
“Are you sure you’re okay, Raven?” asks Damian quietly, needing to make sure.
“I’m perfect right here with you,” murmurs Raven sweetly as one of her hands slips to play with the hairs at the nape of his neck while the other rests against the side of his neck. “I’d be better if you just kissed me already.”
“Wha— You— hold on, you want me to kiss you?” asks Damian seriously, eyes darting for signs of a drug because Raven has never given him a single inclination that she’d want this too.
His brothers are calling him every variation of an idiot under the sun as he stares at Raven.
But he’s surprised as hell, okay? He needs confirmation as he notices that she doesn’t look affected in any manner that’s worrying. There are no signs of a drug, it would’ve been from Ivy, and Damian knows all of those love related ones turn the pupils into hearts.
It’s the weirdest thing ever, but he’s seen his own eyes look like that. Trust him on this, he knows it better than most of his family… Drake is the only one who knows it just as well. Ivy and Harley have their favourites that they like testing the drugs on, and they happen to be the unfortunate ones.
“Damian, I really do. I—“ Raven takes a deep breath as she tilts her head to look at him, baring herself to him in a way that makes him realise just how guarded she’s been. “Look, I know this is out of the blue because I’ve worked hard to keep these feelings under wraps, but I’ve wanted this moment with you for a while now. I— I like you, Damian Wayne. I like you more than I ever thought I could like anyone.”
He doesn’t say a word, he is stunned into silence for a moment just staring into her eyes unguarded. But then Damian has to lift a hand to cup her soft cheek and lean in to kiss her. He can’t help the way he tilts his head to the side just a bit and slots their lips together in a soft kiss. When he goes to pull away, needing to tell her, she whines high in her throat, fingers gripping around the strands of his hair and making him breathe out sharply. He catches her bottom lip between his own and lightly scrapes his teeth over it, barely keeping himself from groaning as she whimpers softly. But he has to make sure she knows how much he wants this too, wants her too.
“I like you too, Raven, and it’s actually been driving me insane,” breathes Damian before he taps a finger to his comm and tugs it out to shove it into his pocket. “Fuck, I like you so much, Raven.”
“Damian,” breathes Raven in awe before she’s tugging him forward into another kiss, this one starts open-mouthed, starts with him licking his way in and twining their tongues together as his hand finds her hip again and squeezes it.
She moans as their tongues brush slickly together, and he groans low when she tugs at his hair while he sucks at her tongue once it’s between his lips. It’s more heated than a ferris wheel kiss should be, but it’s desire and want as they trade deep kisses, hands squeezing and soft as they get lost.
But they tug apart breathlessly when the ferris wheel starts moving, and their eyes are wide in surprise before finding each other, and laughter escapes between them as their foreheads pressed together.
“You and me, Damian Wayne,” murmurs Raven breathlessly, so happy that her eyes are shining.
“Forever you and me, Raven,” replies Damian in a hushed whisper as they reach the bottom and come to a complete stop. “What do you say we go find that photo booth that Garfield was so excited about?”
“I’d love that,” replies Raven with a grin as they’re let off the ferris wheel.
Their fingers are intertwined tightly, and their cheeks are flushed, but when they pass Dick and Starfire, Damian doesn’t even stop.
He’s lost in Raven, and he’s not going to let the teasing start until he has to put his com back in. He wants to enjoy this high that he’s running on, and Raven’s quick to tug him away when Dick calls his name.
Maybe the fair wasn’t such a bad idea.
