Hero

Summary:

“She thinks a part of her had always known.”

Directly post season 10 episode 5 “Isis”.

Work Text:

“How did you know?”

His eyes were shining up into hers, still as brightly lit as they were the second he realized she had already known he was the Blur.

That wonder made him look like a little kid, more joyful and unburdened than she’d ever gotten to see him. The closest she can remember is that big smile he’d wore when she made him fall into the dunk tank back at Smallville High. The skin around his eyes had crinkled, water fell from his hair in droplets as he laughed with her.

How had she known? How long had she suspected he was more than what he appeared?

Well, clearly their first meeting had left her with more questions than had ever been answered. It’s not everyday she found naked guys laying in the middle of a corn field like a low-budget horror flick.

She thinks back to when they dealt with that psycho cheerleader that had been drugging football players. That pipe had looked perfectly solid before Clark stepped beside her.

She thinks a part of her had always known.

There had been hundreds of little saves throughout the years, some physical and others emotional. As Chloe had once said, Clark wouldn’t always be there when she wanted him to be, but he had always been there when she’d needed him. And on the chance he hadn’t, her mysterious, faceless phone-pal had been.

“I guess I’ve always had my suspicions. About you and then about the Blur,” she explained. She smirked as a piece of confetti feel from her hair to one of his flushed cheeks. “But I’ve always known you were a hero. To me, at least.”

And then he was leaning up to catch her lips with his, for a second kiss. How comic-book hero predictable was that?
