The Locked Trap

Summary:

Cast of characters/character profiles for a Locked Tomb/Saw franchise crossover AU.

What if John Gaius was the Jigsaw killer? What if his Lyctors were his accomplices? And what if the trials at Canaan House were instead one of Jigsaw's elaborate "games?"

Notes:

Hiiii so idk if this is weird to post on here but whatevs we stay silly. I've been utterly consumed by the Saw parasite as of late and cannot stop thinking about how well these two series intersect with each other. This is just a proof of concept type of thing! Just wanted to share what I've been working on and see if there's like, an "audience" for this sort of thing lol. And because I put a lot of work into coming up with modern au names okay! Also trying to work in "vices" that would put each character in a Saw trap - but since they are still Saw traps, remember that the "justifications" are 9/10 times total bull

KILLER PROFILES

John Goddard aka JIGSAW

John is a genius if eccentric civil engineer, and spent most of his life working off government grants. Diagnosed with terminal brain cancer at a tragically young age, he has devoted his remaining life to acting out his more morbid interests - experimenting with the lines between life and death, via a series of “games” apparently designed to test a person’s will to live.

Mercy Kwan

Mercy is a longtime friend (and sometimes enemy) of John. A trained doctor and skilled anatomist, she handles the “meat” of operations. Mercy knows the ins and outs of the human body like the back of her hand - how far this bit can twist before it snaps, how long that bit can be exposed to heat or acid, the precise amount of pressure needed to break each bone, or exactly how much blood a person is able to lose without dying.

Augustine Quintero

Augustine is a longtime friend (and sometimes enemy) of John. A brilliant biochemist from a wealthy background, Augustine considers himself “the ideas man,” although Mercy would contest this description. Augustine’s traps are always multilayered, intricate, and near-impossible to beat, relying on the speed of enzymes, the properties of certain metals, and the slightest changes to the makeup of a gas or liquid.

Gideon Price

Gideon is generally regarded as “the muscle of the group,” though he also usually functions as its beating heart. A fellow engineer, he and John have been friends since childhood, and it is Gideon who is the most affected by John’s diagnosis. Extremely capable in both mind and body, he collaborates with John on the mechanics of things, lifting machinery (and bodies) when John inevitably grows too weak.

Priscilla “Prez” Dunne

Prez is a close friend of Gideon’s, and the team’s connection to law enforcement. A crass womanizer and the life of any party, Prez contrasts Gideon’s dour seriousness with her near-constant ass jokes. As the “pet cop,” Prez works by day to keep the police off John’s tail, while by night she assists Gideon in doing the heavy lifting.

Cynthia Lovelocke

Cynthia is a fellow cancer patient sympathetic to John’s “cause.” Although she is weak of body, she is brilliant of mind and extremely emotionally intelligent, providing insights into human behavior the scientists don’t always realize. Her role in the Canaan House project is to be the “slippers on the ground” - a plant to make sure the game runs smoothly.

Annabel Laurie

John's ex-wife, a mysterious and beautiful woman who seemingly disappeared off the face of the Earth one day. John remains intensely devoted to her, and some claim that their separation is the true motivator behind the Jigsaw project.

Whitney “Wake” Ngata

Not a current accomplice of John’s, but another ghost from the past. She grew close to Prez (and, naturally, Gideon) during her stint at the police academy, and spent quite a few grad school house parties in John’s basement. He barely remembers her… but she might have a damn good reason to remember him.

VICTIM PROFILES

Judith Tupou (22 F)

A straight-laced, serious military cadet rising fast in the ranks. Rumors of nepotism and scandal surround her, but she manages to keep her cool… usually.

Marta Mafi (27 F)

An older but lower-ranking associate of Judith. Similarly by-the-book, some say that she and Judith once had a rather illicit affair, but Marta’s crisp professionalism withholds her from making comment.

Izabella Tremblay (22 F)

Tall, blonde, and evil, a catty rich girl with a bad personality and a stupefying deficit of attention. Joined at the hip with her twin sister, though they’re constantly at each other’s throats. These girls might need to learn to finally work together… or risk being separated forever.

Corinne Elizabeth “Corrie-Beth” Tremblay (22 F)

A blonde bombshell who sucks up all the attention from her twin sister at parties… but usually completely folds to Izabella’s domineering personality. These codependent twins are more toxic than tender, but they may be faced with a game that truly tests if blood is thicker than champagne.

Niall Turner (23 M)

A distant cousin of the Tremblay twins and a member of their elite social circle, though he rarely garners half as much attention. Surly and snobbish, he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth - a mouth he might need to learn to shut for good.

Isaac Tung (13 M)

A thoughtful and sensitive young teen, seemingly an unusual target for the Jigsaw killer. Probably only here to pull at the heartstrings of his foster parents, although his safety cannot be truly assured.

Jean Marie Chaddick (14 F)

A bright and confident girl, though easily embarrassed. She is very protective of her foster brother, Isaac, and is likely in a similar situation - merely a prop to propel the adults through their “tests.”

Abigail Parrish (37 F)

An internationally renowned historian with a gentle, easy-going demeanor, a stable marriage, and two foster kids. However, her eccentricities may cross over into unethical research practices - especially when she tries to cross over from the land of the living to the “realm of spirits.”

Malcolm Quinn (38 M)

Abigail’s husband, a gentle, jolly fellow who just wants everyone to get along. He is less successful than his wife and he likes it that way, preferring to spend his time raising Isaac and Jean Marie.

Parsifal Soroush (20 M)

A stereotypically nerdy university student who considers himself something of an independent investigator. Along with his second cousin Camilla, he runs a true-crime newsletter and radio show on campus, which has recently turned its attention to a certain string of elaborate death traps. His greatest weakness might be his romantic heart, which has left him penning long-distance love letters (and now emails!) since he was a teenager.

Camilla Hadid (20 F)

A witty, intelligent, and put-together young woman who runs a true-crime newsletter and radio show at university with her second cousin, Parsifal. Camilla is calm and collected in a crisis and not afraid to get her hands dirty - though she may soon be raking through more muck than she ever bargained for.

Dulce “Dulcie” Sepulveda (27 F)

A bright, charming, and friendly woman who caught Parsifal’s attention years ago through a blog she ran to document her terminal illness. She tragically (or perhaps luckily) passed away before her “game” could begin, with Cynthia Lovelocke stepping in to steal her identity.

Paulo “Pro” Ebrahim (39 M)

A physically imposing yet gentle man who has worked as Dulce’s lifelong caretaker. Knowing that his presence would blow her scheme wide open, Cynthia made sure he had an “accident” before the game began, leaving her to assume the identity of Dulce and be grieving over his dead body just as everyone else is waking up.

Silas Ockerman (16 M)

An ultra-wealthy old-money snob, a trust fund kid in the most classical sense. An extreme religious fundamentalist, he is quick to pass judgement and demands he should be in charge. Few realize just how young he is, as he is already close to graduating university and his severe demeanor ages him far beyond his years.

Colm Ashbury (34 M)

Silas’s uncle and “caretaker,” although “manservant” might be more adequate. Though similarly conservative, he is far meeker than his nephew and loath to take control in any situation. In a crisis, it’s unclear which will doom him first: his seeming lack of a backbone or his old-fashioned principles.

Harrowhark (legally “Hannah”) Novakovich (18 F)

The daughter of who she calls “new religious leaders” but the government calls “cultists,” extraordinarily goth. Her religion focuses on death ceremonies and mortuary rites, and Harrow has gotten more personal with dead bodies than most people have with each other. Dresses from head-to-toe in black, ritualistically buzzes her head, and never leaves her face bare of skull paint. Harrow is quiet, serious, and relies on no one, preferring (really needing ) to work alone. Controversial religious practices, a history of mental illness, and a strong fixation on death make her a model Jigsaw target, but someone so enamored with the dead may be unable to muster the necessary “will to live.”

Gideon Ngata (19 F)

Raised by her skeevy mom Whitney before entering the foster system at 13 - feeling decidedly “too old” for anyone to want her. A runaway, a petty thief, and a general juvenile delinquent, Gideon has actually run into Harrow a few times before - namely, when Harrow’s church got in trouble with the hand of the law. Gideon’s stabilized a bit as she’s gotten older, covering up her social awkwardness with snark and serious gainz, all while trying to make ends meet, no matter what it takes. She tries not to let her past bother her, but she may soon be faced with a reckoning that’ll blow her whole world wide open.
