°°°

Wednesday.

This was all Enid’s fault. The class had a seating plan not mandatory but followed regardless and the blonde had chosen today of all days to switch seats.

Wednesday felt her heart drop as she watched the scene unravel before her, unable to do anything to stop it. All she could do was stare with what would probably be a panicked expression on her face as the girl a couple rows down from her table opened the love note she’d written before turning around to face her with a blinding smile as she nodded eagerly.

She knew she should’ve addressed the person the note was for on the paper and all of this could’ve been avoided but it was too late now.

Even as the girl turned her attention back to the front of the classroom, she still sat there in disbelief at what just happened.

“Oh no.” She whispers under her breath at Thing, looking inside her black leather bag. “I’ve placed the note on the wrong desk.”

“How’d you manage that?” He signs back.

“Enid usually sat there, I didn’t think she’d move seats to sit beside that gorgon.” She quietly sneers at her bag before shutting it and dropping it under her desk.

This was a disaster. She didn’t even know the girls name and yet she’d just accidentally asked her out on a date. She sighed inwardly preparing herself for the awkward conversation that would have to take place once class was over, already imagining how it would go.

‘Hey my apologies that note wasn’t for you, I don’t even know your name and it was actually for my oblivious roommate who chose to sit beside her ex today.’ She was dreading it.

Luckily the teacher did the roll call and she’d managed to capture the girls name as she raised her hand to indicate her presence.

Mira, that was her name and it suited her. She had wavy, chestnut brown hair that cascaded over her chair and green eyes that met her gaze as she turned back around to shyly smile at her.

She couldn’t deny that she was beautiful but her heart was set on Enid.

The same Enid, who was currently giggling at something Ajax had whispered in her ear. She felt a stabbing pain in her chest but quickly averted her gaze back to her work to distract herself from watching that display. One problem at a time.

Throughout the rest of the lesson she kept thinking of ways to let the girl down easy but she already knew it was going to be difficult as Mira kept glancing back at her the entire time.

When the bell rang, indicating that class was over she quickly packed her belongings and made her way over to the brunette, trying to ignore the way that gorgon had his arm around Enid’s shoulder as they both walked out of the room together. She’d thought they’d broken up weeks ago, she respected her roommate, giving her time and space to nurse her heartbreak but obviously she’d given too much and allowed them to rekindle their relationship.

One problem at a time, she kept chanting to herself in her mind.

“Hello Mira, can we talk?” She asked, trying to remain cool.

“Hi Wednesday.” The girl beamed. “Sure, walk with me to my next class?”

Nodding her head, she followed Mira out of class and into the hallways.

“So Addams, what did you want to talk about?” The girl asked, smiling kindly at her.

Her step faltered at her smile as she internally battled with herself, trying to find words to let the brunette down without hurting her.

“So about that note-“ She started to explain but was cut off by a giggle and a hand rested on her arm to stop her from walking.

“This wasn’t for me was it? It’s for Enid.” Mira softly asked, holding out the note for her. “I figured it out half way through class, I realised the note was already there before everyone went into the room but there was no way for you to know I’d sit there because I’ve never sat in that seat until today.”

She meekly nodded her head, eyes softening in apology as she took the note from her and crumpled it up in her fist.

“I’m really sorry Mira.” She said and genuinely meant it.

She felt extremely bad for the whole situation but was glad she didn’t have to make a fool of herself once more trying to awkwardly rescind the note from her.

“It’s okay, I just got out of a relationship anyways but I’m here if you ever need a friend.” Mira replied, the smile still sitting prettily on her face. “Or a distraction. This is my class Addams, I’ll see around.”

With that, the brunette squeezed her arm and walked through the door and she watched as she sat confidently at one of the front desks.

Her jaw dropped as her mind registered the words and the girl smirked at her and sent a wave and wink her way, mouthing the works ‘good luck’. Not knowing what to do, she just dumbly waved back as she stared at Mira before the door finally closed.

God she was so gay.

A distraction.

That’s what Mira had offered to her, she didn’t know what she’d meant by it but was considering taking her up on it as she watched Enid lean into Ajax to show him something on her phone. She knew she had no right to be upset but she couldn’t help the jealousy coursing through her entire body at the display.

She felt like she was spiralling before she caught a glimpse of Mira sitting across the quad with people she didn’t bother remembering the names of and glanced back at the two people flirting in front of her.

Enid was not hers. She had no claim over her and if Enid chose Ajax once more then she would respect that but she needed to rid of these feelings once and for all.

No more pain and no more waiting.

She finally had enough and abruptly stood up from the lunch table, the group chatter coming to a stop in favour of watching her.

“Everything okay Wens?” Enid asks, now sitting up to finally pay attention to her.

“Yes.” She grits out, avoiding eye contact and facing the rest of the table. “I just remembered I have things to do.”

And that was all she’d given before grabbing her backpack and walking away, leaving a confused Enid and friends behind her.

She willed herself not to turn back to take one last glance at Enid and walked directly to Mira’s table.

The brunette spotting already having spotted her, sends a beaming smile her way.

“Hi Wednesday, was there anything you needed?” Mira asks kindly, looking up at her as she stops beside where she’s seated.

She could feel the embarrassment of having an audience but managed to ignore the feeling and everyone else.

“A distraction.” Was all she replied before the girl stood up, grabbing her hand to intertwine them.

“Your wish is my command, Addams.” Mira grinned, saying a quick goodbye to her friends before she began to guide them out of the quad.

A chill rolled down her spine at the feeling of being watched. She chanced glancing back towards her friends making direct eye contact with Enid who had a frown on her face, her bright blue eyes practically glowing but she didn’t have time to dwell on it as she was pulled away from her judging stare.
