Work Text:
Travis laid on his back in the grass outside, picking the blades absentmindedly as he looked up at the sky. It had always been a pretty good view, being a small town and all, but the difference was eerie all the same. At some point, he was disturbed from his thoughts by Larry, asking to join him. He didn't know why, but he accepted anyways.
“They're so much brighter now, it seems.” Larry said, blowing out a smoke cloud and looking up at the sky. Travis couldn't help but laugh, maybe a little too hysterically, making Larry raise a brow at him.
“I'm sorry- It's just like you could hear my thoughts or something. It's not really that funny actually, it's just… It's weird. Seeing the stars like this, I mean. But it's kind of nice too.”
“Yeah… Do you think things will ever go back to normal? Well, as normal as it can?”
Travis shrugged.
“I don't know. Not here, if it does. I don't think I'd want to stay here if it did anyway. I didn't want to in the first place though.”
“Mm.” Larry hummed, offering his joint over to the blond. Travis was hesitant, but accepted this too. He was familiar with cigarettes, so he got the idea, but the taste was certainly different and he coughed up a storm, making Larry laugh.
“Jesus, you alright, Blondie? Need a water?”
Travis shook his head and waved his hand dismissively, handing the joint back.
“I'll be fine.” He wasn't sure he would, but he didn't like to ask for things. Yeah it was offered, but still.
“So, how long until this kicks in?”
Larry grinned and shrugged.
“It'll take a minute, probably, but you'll know when it does.”
They laid in silence for a bit, the only sound being the wind and their breathing. It was nice, but Travis grasped for words out of fear he was making things awkward.
“Why did you want to lay here with me?”
Larry looked amused, shrugging again.
“Do I need a reason?”
“Um, I guess not. But-”
“I just wanted to. Do you not want me to?”
“What? No, I didn't say that. I just didn't expect you to is all.”
“Why wouldn't I?” Larry asked, fully turning their head his way. Travis was a bit exasperated by these replies, not entirely sure what to say.
“Um.. I don't know? Because you wouldn't have before?”
“Well, it's not before. It's now.” The brunette scooted a little closer so their shoulders were touching, brushing the backs of their fingers against his. “And I like being around now you.”
“Oh.” His face flushed and he felt compelled to hide it, but he resisted. Was he supposed to initiate hand holding? He wanted to, but he wasn't familiar with these situations. He decided to just do it and stop overthinking everything, and the grin on Larry's face told him it was a good choice.
“Aw, I knew you liked me too. You don't need to be so nervous, Trav.” She said, squeezing his hand softly. “I'm not expecting anything out of you.”
Well that was a relief, even if the concept of being liked back was an unfamiliar one.
“You're so nice to me now, it's weird.” He laughed a little, looking over at Larry.
“Well, so are you.”
It was true, he had really been trying especially since they didn't just leave him outside to die by himself which they totally could have. They weren't bad people though, maybe he just wasn't used to good people.
“Travis?” Larry mumbled, voice softer than he'd ever heard it before. He gulped.
“Hmm?”
“I'm tired.” They said, setting down the extinguished joint somewhere in the grass and turning to fully face him. Carefully, they rested their free hand on the blond's chest and sort of headbutted his shoulder. “Is this okay?”
Travis smiled and nodded.
“Yeah, I think so.” He gently ran his hand up his forearm, pouting a little at the way it made him shiver.
“Hey, sit up for a sec,” Travis coaxed the brunette up long enough to slip his jacket off and over top the both of them, wrapping his arm around Larry's shoulders and pulling him against himself more firmly.
“Is that better?” He asked, making the brunette grin like an idiot.
“Mhmmm. Aw, such a gentleman. You going all soft on me, Blondie?” She chuckled, reaching up to twirl the ends of his hair around her fingers and run her nails up his scalp. He couldn't think of a coherent response, so he just made some sort of high pitched nervous noise and kissed him.
Larry reciprocated for a second before pulling back, using his other hand to cup Travis' face.
“I do want to kiss you, but just checking, you're not feeling pressured or anything, right?” He sounded surprisingly distressed, making Travis shake his head quickly.
“No, I'm okay. Are you okay?” He asked, laughing a little and pressing a firm kiss to their forehead.
“Yeah, I'm just checking. I can't always read you very well. Um, so, do you still wanna kiss me?”
Travis rolled his eyes and nodded, reconnecting their lips. Larry didn't pull away this time. It was nothing crazy, Travis didn't even know if he was doing this part right, but Larry seemed pretty content.
After a minute or two, Travis was pretty sure that hit kicked in because this was a more sudden new sensation, and if his head wasn't spinning before it sure was now. It was nice, but it also kind of freaked him out and he wasn't sure what to do about that. Maybe nothing? No, he decided he should probably say something, or at least that's what Larry would want.
“Hey, I think um, that I'm high now?” He said just above a whisper, making Larry lean back and tilt his head.
“Oh yeah? You okay?”
Travis struggled to think of what words to lace together, again, which made Larry a bit worried.
“Do you want to stop?”
He nodded.
“Okay, you want me to move over or anything?”
He shook his head quickly, making Larry grin in that way that his nose scrunched up. It was Travis' favorite Larry smile.
“Okay, okay, I'll stay. You just get a little overwhelmed, hm?”
“I think so. I'm tired now too.” The blond mumbled much quieter than before.
“We can just lay here then, if that's okay with you.”
Travis could honestly barely understand what Larry was saying, he hadn't really slept much recently so he was crashing quickly, so he just nodded and squeezed the brunette a little, smiling at the chuckle emanating from her afterwards. She said something else he didn't hear any of and kissed the bridge of his nose before resting her head on his arm again, which he just assumed was a goodnight so he mumbled out his own before letting the sleep fully consume him.
