Travis’ face turned bright red, and he dropped the papers in his hands immediately. Sal knew it was him; he’s never seen Travis look like this before. Sal thought back to every time he’s spoken to Travis, every letter he’s left in Sal’s locker, every time he’s caught Travis staring at him with what he thought was disgust. the idea of leaving florida to move somewhere like nockfell, a place no one on earth had ever heard of, and if they had, had never lived to tell the tale, was ridiculous, regardless of how much i hated florida. i had no future in either location, but one place had my entire life, newborn to now, buried deep within it. moving to nockfell tossed me into a pit of other people's memories, things i was vacant in. immigration into such a social circle, especially in high school, was suicide.
of course, that went right over my mother's head, but she hadn't been a new student, in a new school, in a new state in more years than i had been alive; her ignorance was expected. i was doomed to spending the rest of my years alone and bored, like florida, except now i would have no previous connections, no one i could remember, nothing to make myself feel better. no relationships would be reanimated here.

Nockfell isn't the place someone would choose to move to willingly. It's not on any brochures trying to sell you on a trip there, it's in the middle of nowhere, and has a dwindling population that hasn't been updated since 10 years ago. If you asked anyone about whether it was a good idea to move there they'd look at you like you had gone insane.
Of course, like any story, our dear main character is forced to move there. From the busy snowed in streets of Canada to a random sleepy town she didn't even know existed until a few months ago, Cassie Wynters doesn't expect herself to be there long. Having constantly moved from one place to another all throughout her childhood, she's never really cared to get attached to a place because the heartbreak of having to leave friends behind once again outweighs the joys of making them.
But once she meets a group of kids who apparently chase the paranormal for fun, something changes in her. Maybe, just maybe... this town isn't so boring after all. -
