Chapter Text
Travis and Mary were sitting in the dining room. They had been called down to have a very important talk with Kenneth. The two siblings looked at each other suspiciously, not knowing if either of them had done something wrong. I mean Travis didn't think he did anything wrong? He was running through a mental list of things that his father may want to talk about when Kenneth walked into the room with Madeline trailing behind him. Madeline had visited them every summer break, but it was the middle of the school year; why would she be here?
“Travis, Mary,” Kenneth said, taking a pause to make sure the two were paying attention before continuing, “Madeline will be living with us again, permanently. Your aunt and uncle have moved from France to Germany, meaning Madeline could no longer attend École de danse de l'Opéra national de Paris. So, instead she will be going to Nockfell High School with you, Travis. I expect you to give her a tour and help her find her classes,” Kenneth said in a very matter-of-fact tone.

It was Monday now; Travis had tried to explain to Madeline the layout of the school with a printed-out map before her first day so it would go over easier. Today was the day; Travis and Madeline walked into the school, and some students gave Maddy an odd look. Travis hated it; he knew his sister was… “Different,” but she wasn't as creepy as people thought! She was just a little unsettling, is all! Maddy was a very modest and kind person underneath; she was the best! She always followed the rules and never strayed from the path their father talked about. She always wore past-knee-length skirts, a cross necklace, and long-sleeve shirts. She always had good grades. She was Kenneth's favorite. And it was only partially due to her looking the most like him… unlike Travis, he looked more like his mother, something he never heard the end of from his father.
Travis guided Maddy to her locker before going off to his. That's when he noticed Sally Face and his group of friends. He couldn't look away; God, was he hopeless… Sal was so beautiful. It had been about two weeks since the talk in the bathroom, and Travis couldn't stop thinking of Sal's offer. He knew the offer was probably off the table now. He couldn't risk Maddy telling their father that he was off gallivanting with a sinner. Oh well, he’ll just do what he does best, repress his emotions and write poems about Sal until he feels less horrible.

Sal’s POV:

Sal had been hanging out with his friends when he saw Travis walk in with a girl. They looked a lot alike, though the girl had slightly tanner skin, paler more natural-looking blond hair, and was taller than Travis by a few feet. Sal guessed they were siblings based on how they were interacting, but it was strange. Sal had never seen this girl before.
Sal didn't have much time to dwell on it as the bell rang for their first period.
