"Another," Moiraine said, coughing and giggling, shuffling closer to Lan. "Light, this is so strong. But so good. How do the Aiel do this?"
Lan passed her the flask, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. "I don't know," he said, laughing. "But it's good, isn't it? Though I thought you'd start bawling when I started drinking."
In response, Moiraine giggled, taking another swig and passing the bottle back to Lan.
"How's the bond feel?" she slurred out, before dissolving into giggles once more. "I can feel you. You feel all... relaxed. I don't think I've felt you like this in so long."
Lan let out a big, loud laugh, and Moiraine could feel his joy, just as she knew he could feel hers through the bond. Somehow, Lan always knew what she needed, even if she didn't realise it herself.
"I could say the same thing about you," he said, nudging her ribs with his elbow. It was a gentle nudge, by Lan's standards, but it made her nearly topple off the rock they were sitting on, which resulted in a clumsy attempt to right herself and a whole lot of giggles.
When Moiraine pulled herself together, she grabbed the flask again, taking another gulp. Normally, she'd have made sure not to drink so much so that she'd be able to deal with Rand and the others in the morning, but fuck it. She was going to die at any time. She may as well have fun, and leave the problems for later.
"Did you know," she said, leaning her head on Lan's shoulder, "That there's a way to open a pineapple without a knife?"
Lan smiled, pressing a kiss to the top of her head. "I do," he said. "You showed me and Siuan that trick when we first started this journey, remember? More than twenty years ago now."
Moiraine hummed a little. "That constellation looks like a fish," she said, pointing at the stars. "Like one of those fish with dangly light thingies that Siuan used to go on about. See how that star looks way bigger than all the other ones?"
Lan snorted. "That's just someone's lantern," he said, wrapping his cloak around her. "From really far away. Though it does really look like the- what did you call it? The dangly light thingy?"
Moiraine giggled. "That's the one. The dangly light thingy. Do you know what those fish are called? I forgot."
Lan took another sip of oosquai and thought for a moment. "Angel-sharks or something? Or hammerhead fish. Something like that. I've forgotten, annoyingly."
"We'll figure it out tomorrow," she said, grabbing Lan's arm and placing it around herself, snuggling against him. "Remind me, will you?"
Lan felt his heart twinge in his chest.
"I will," he said, squeezing her close. "We'll figure it out tomorrow. First thing."
It was the least he could do for her.
Moiraine shifted her head against him, letting out a little laugh.
"Siuan would love this oosquai," she said. "Remember how much she loves her Tsiren ale? I'll have to share some with her at some point. And the apple brandy from the Two Rivers. Once we finish with the Last Battle, we can go see the whole world. The three of us. No, four. Including Nynaeve."
He didn't have the heart to say anything about what she saw in Rhuidean. Instead, he drained half the remaining contents of the flask, passing it to her. She finished it off- there wasn't much left in it, but she started giggling again as she handed back the empty flask.
"One day we will," she said. "We'll be able to see the world. Do you know, I think Nynaeve doesn't hate me anymore. So she might actually agree to come with."
Lan nodded. "One day," he said. "Moiraine?"
"Hmm?"
"I love you," he said. "Platonically, of course. I don't think Siuan would be very happy if I meant the other kind of I love you."
Moiraine smiled, wrapping both her arms around him properly.
"I love you too."
