Can't Take My Eyes Off You

Summary:

Han watches Luke trying (and failing) to fix a problem with his X-Wing and decides to help.

☆ ☆ ☆

I love the trope of someone fixing up a vehicle covered in dirt and grease, so here we are.

Notes:

title from the frankie valli song

Work Text:

Han knew the intricacies of ship maintenance like the back of his hand. He and Chewie had to patch up the Falcon so many times since he won it from Lando that it would be concerning if he didn't.

But right now, he wouldn't be able to tell someone what Luke was doing with his X-Wing even if they put a blaster to his head. Han had probably been watching the blonde for five minutes straight, and yet, all he had retained was how Luke looked.

If Luke didn't have such an innocent nature, Han would think he was doing it on purpose. His orange pilot suit pulled down to his waist, the arms tied loosely around his hipbones, a tight white vest showing off the muscles Han didn't expect him to have, and a thin layer of sweat making his tanned body glisten in the sunlight that was shining in on the Rebellion's Yavin IV base.

Luke yelped, pulling his hand away from something that had started sparking so he could suck the burn on his fingertip. Artoo whistled in response, making Luke furrow his brows.

"Well, it's too hot to wear gloves! I'm not used to this humidity..."

Han found it ironic that the blonde was complaining about the temperature, considering the giant, thick poncho he was wearing when they first met back in Mos Eisley.

Han crossed his arms on the railing of the balcony he was leaning on, smirking down at Luke, "Want some help?"

"Han!" Luke jumped, almost stumbling into his droid, "How long have you been standing there?"

"Not long," he shrugged, lying through his teeth.

While the smuggler walked down the closest set of stairs, Luke tried to rearrange his sweat-dampened hair, which only resulted in him leaving multiple streaks of oil on his blonde locks, nose and left cheek.

"What're you doing?" Han raised an eyebrow, looking at the open panel on the side of Luke's X-Wing.

"Uh, well, I... the thingy, it won't... um..."

Artoo gave a disappointed 'beep'.

Han looked back to Luke, trying not to smile at the pink flush appearing on his face.

"Just... fixing. Stuff," Luke squinted, gnawing at his lower lip.

Luke was so adorable, Han almost wanted to distance himself before he could ruin the young man. Almost.

"Well, do you want help or not?"

Luke nodded, even though he really wanted Han to leave so he could climb into the cockpit and hide in embarrassment.

"In that case, what exactly is the 'thingy' that won't do something?" Han smirked again.

Luke closed his eyes briefly, trying to swallow the lump in his throat, "Navigation system. Screen malfunction, that's all. I'm pretty sure, at least."

"Ah, that's nothing," Han scoffed, walking past Luke to stand in front of the exposed wires that had now stopped sparking, "I can get this fixed up for you in a few minutes."

Luke watched Han work, trying to keep his eyes off of the brunette's face so he could take a mental note of what he was doing with the wiring, but ultimately failing. He felt a blush rise to his cheeks again, and he quickly turned away, busying himself with cleaning up some scattered parts and tools he had left lying around.

Less than two minutes later, just when Luke was about to question why he could faintly smell something burning, Han called him back over.

"Should be working now," he said, looking up to the cockpit to silently tell Luke to hop in and check.

Luke climbed into his X-Wing, turning on the systems one by one. He blinked in awe as everything powered up like usual, the small screen lighting up and displaying its typical information. He peered over the side of the cockpit to look down at Han, who was staring back with a smug grin on his face.

"All good?" he called, resting his hands on his belt as he stepped back slightly to see Luke better.

"Yeah, everything's fine. How did you do that so fast?" Luke asked as he clambered out of the ship, his boots thumping against the metal as he hopped down to land beside Han.

"Lotta practice," Han shrugged, his trademark smirk back on his face, "This is your first ship, right? You'll get to know her like the back of your hand in no time."

"Well... thanks. For fixing my nav," Luke smiled, almost hiding behind his fringe to avoid Han's gaze.

He could feel himself getting flustered again, standing this close to Han, suddenly noticing how the sunlight seemed to change the colour of his eyes to a greyish blue.

"I... um... I was thinking about heading to the canteen for some food if you... wanted to come with me?"

Han chuckled, reaching up to wipe a streak of oil from Luke's cheek, "I think you could do with a shower first, kid. You're covered in grease and dirt."

Luke subconsciously touched the spot where Han had wiped away the oil, feeling his face heat up again, "Oh. Right, uh..."

Artoo let out what sounded like a laugh, making Luke blush even harder. Han, on the other hand, ignored the Astromech, his focus directed solely on Luke.

"You can use the shower on the Falcon, if you want. Has actual water."

Luke shrugged one shoulder, completely unaware of how Han had gotten so close to him that his back was almost pressed against the side of his X-Wing, the older man towering over him.

"I wouldn't want to be a bother. I don't mind the sonic showers, really," he muttered, his gaze drifting away from the brunette.

Han reached up again, his hand hooking under Luke's chin to tilt his head back slightly, making his bright blue eyes meet his hazel.

"Gods, you're adorable," Han smirked, his voice now a low whisper.

Luke's breath hitched; he could feel his heart racing so fast he was worried it was going to burst out of his ribcage. He looked up at Han, his gaze meeting the other man's, and for a moment, he just stared, lost in those warm eyes.

Han tilted his head as he leaned in, pressing a gentle kiss to Luke's soft lips. When he pulled away, Luke's flushed face and twinkling eyes made the cocky smirk return to his face as he let go of the blonde's chin, his hand slipping down to rest on one side of Luke's hip.

Luke couldn't think of anything to say, too distracted by the gentle tingling feeling left from Han's lips on his. He stood there, frozen, his brain working desperately to process what had just happened.

After what felt like an eternity, he managed to whisper, "Can we do that again?"

Han laughed, ducking his head for a second as he exhaled.

"Sure," he said in his usual nonchalant tone, leaning down to kiss Luke again.

Luke stood on his tiptoes to help with their height difference, melting into the kiss when Han's lips met his again. Before he had time to think about it, his hands had slid upwards, linking around Han's shoulders. Their kiss deepened slightly this time, though still soft and gentle, making Luke's heart flutter in his chest.

Artoo whistled quietly before whirring away from the pair, hiding behind the opposite side of Luke's X-Wing.

Han eventually decided to pull away to let Luke breathe, both hands now on his waist to keep him close.

"Satisfied?" Han teased.

Luke let out a soft laugh, still clinging to Han's shoulders.

"Mmm... that was nice," he murmured, unable to stop a dreamy smile from spreading across his face.

"Plenty more where that came from if you want it," Han grinned, pressing a kiss to Luke's foreheard this time, "You go clean up, I'll see if there's anything worth saving for you in the canteen."

"Okay," Luke nodded with his usual bright smile, reluctantly letting go of Han's shoulders, "I'll be quick."

Han folded his arms, smirking to himself as he watched Luke walk away with Artoo trailing behind, the blonde not so subtly sneaking glances back at him with a giddy smile until he was out of sight.

Maybe he could stick around in the Rebellion for a little longer.

Notes:

sorry for playing into the "blushing virgin" trope a little with luke (i know some people hate it), but in ANH he's clearly sheltered and somewhat immature so i thought it was fitting [shrug]
