Chapter Text
Enid stared down at her haphazardly wrapped lunch that rested on her lap while sitting in one of the schools bathroom stalls.
It was a sandwich that was five percent mayonnaise, and ninety five percent venison.
Her mother had 6 werewolfs to feed, and many times, the night before was far to hectic, so she would have to throw together 6 sandwich early in the morning and handed them out to her children as they ran out the door to catch their bus.
She bit into the sandwich and smiled when she tasted that there was more mayonnaise than usual. She and her mother didn't have the greatest relationship, with Enid being the smallest werewolf out of the Sinclair pack and Esther having to work all the time.
But Esther Sinclair loved all her children equally. And she showed her love in small gestures, like replacing Enids nail polish when she noticed them running low while she cleaned her room, or adding extra mayonnaise to her sandwich because Enid liked it so much.
She hummed as she chewed, looking around at the bathroom stall walls, and the graffiti that was sprawled on them.
After only attending her school for a month, Enid was outed as a werewolf. And since the state she lived in weren't fans of her kind, the wolf was practically forced to avoid the schools cafeteria and seek solic in the bathroom.
Which, in all honesty, she didnt really mind. She hadn't had the chance to make friends, and her wolfs superior hearing made sitting in the loud cafeteria a challenge in itself. So Enid didn't mind eating her lunch in here.
She took another bite of her sandwich, staring at the doodle of a cartoon werewolf with blood coming out of its mouth when the bathroom door bursted open and the chatter of a group of girls reverberated off the walls.
Enid quickly raised the feet to the top of the toilet lid to hide them. "Did you see her!? Like, what the hell is that outfit? I think someone's gotta inform her that colour is a thing, and we're not living in the 19th century!" A girl joked as they stopped in front of the sinks.
"And her hair? She actually leaves the house with that style? She definitely isn't going to survive this semester."
Enid frowned for a moment, trying to figure out who the girls were talking about, when she remembered the girl who just transferred earlier in the week. When she was introduced to her class, Enid blushed slightly at the girls appearance.
She was short, slightly tanned, and had jet black hair and was styled into two braids. Her eyes were dark brown, to the point of almost being black. And while their teacher introduced her to the class, she only glared at Enid with murderous rage for some reason.
"I heard her family is rich. Heard some of the boys are going to try and manipulate her into liking them for her money. I mean that dress is old-fashioned, but it definitely looks expensive."
"Yeah right! Like she'd stop being an antisocial bitch for long enough. I heard another girl tried being nice and talking to her and she just brushed her off."
Enid thought about the girl again while taking a cautious bite of her sandwich. She remembered how the girl sat down at her assigned desk that was at the other side of the classroom, never once taking her eyes off the wolf.
Enid chewed her venicen, lost in thought when one of the girls spoke again. "Well, hopefully she'll take care of that stupid werewolf for us. Katie told me she stared at her the inter time during the first day. She said it looked like she wanted to kill her."
The wolfs foot slipped in shock and she fell to the bathroom floor with a loud, painful thudded. She groaned and held her back before there was a knocking on her bathroom stalls door.
"Hey, you alright? Who's in there?" One of the girls asked. Enid was about to sit back up on the toilet, but she dropped her sandwich that slid out under the door, landing at the girls feet.
"Wait? Are you eating lunch in the bathroom?" The girl chuckeld.
"What the hell is this? Just a bunch of meat and mayonnaise? Who eats a sandwich like this? Hold on." The other girl who picked up her sandwich asked.
"Is that the werewolf, Enid Sinclair hiding in a bathroom stall?"
"... the cafeterias too loud-"
The girls erupted in laughter at the sound of Enids small, defensive voice. "Holy shit! Thats so sad! Aren't you a werewolf?! Why are you scared of a bunch of noise? Guess the big bad wolf isn't as bad as people make her out to be!"
Enids face burned with a mixture of embarrassment and anger. "Leave me alone! Or I'll come out there and show you my claws!" She yelled. While she did have the smallest wolf form, and definitely the weakest in her family. Her brothers had taught her how to fight, and she wasn't going to just sit back and let these girls bully her.
The girls continued to laugh. "Oh! Your going to show us your claws huh? Didn't you faint when we were dissecting frogs last week?"
Enid cringed, remembering how their science teacher had told them how they had to cut open the dead frogs that were pind down on their desks infront of them. Enid didnt have a partner, so she had to do all the dirty work herself.
While in her wolf form, blood and guts didnt bother her, but slicing open the toads stomach with a scalpel, sent the wolf over the side of her desk and falling to the classroom floor.
Enid growled sadly. She was supposed to be a werewolf. She was supposed to be fearless and strong, but she had so many flaws. She was way to girly as her brothers put it. She wore only the brightest of colours and painted her claws every bright colour possible. She dyed her blonde, short hair pink and blue at the ends and was incredibly emotional.
And her wolf form was slightly embarrassing. While her parents, especially her mother, were thrilled when she wolf out at 6 years old, they were slightly disappointed at how small she was. Her wolf was barely over 7 feet tall, blonde and skinny. But she was a werewolf! And she shouldn't faint at the sight of blood. And she shouldn't let these girls insult her.
Enid was about to rip the stall door open when she heard the bathrooms door bursted open. Enid heard the sound of heavy boots on the tiled floor, then the sound of running water and someone washing their hands.
"Oh! Perfect! Freak vs freak! That werewolf you were glaring at is in there eating their lunch. Wanna take care of her for us?" Enid heard the water stop and a long, drawn out silence.
"...Enid is in there? Are you three bothering her?" The girl asked quietly.
"Yeah. This loser eats lunch in a bathroom stall! Like, how sad could someone possibly be?!" The girls laughed even louder. Enids anger was replaced with sadness and shame, because deep down, she agreed with them. Her mother always told he to be proud of being a werewolf, but sometimes she wished she wasn't.
She had friends when she was younger, and she did hangout with a couple of students before they found out. But when everyone discovered she was a werewolf, she instantly became an outcast.
A tear escaped her eye when she heard one of the girls getting all the wind knocked out of her lungs and dropping to the floor on her knees, gasping for air. The other girls screamed in fright.
"What the hells wrong with you!? You psycho!" A girl exclaimed.
"Leave. Her. Alone. Now Get out of here before I lose my temper."
Enid heard the girls scamper out of the bathroom before she slowly opened the door. The transfer girl was exactly how she remembered. She wore a black pocodot dress with a white collar, and large black, platform boots that didn't really make her any taller.
And now that she was closer, Enid noticed the faint freckles that dusted her nose.
The girl looked to Enid with her dark brown eyes that were hard with anger. But when she looked into Enids blue eyes, they softened. "You can come out now, their gone."
Enid exited the stall cautiously. Although she found the mysterious girl very pretty, and she understood that she had defended her, she was still terrifying. "Thank you. Umm, how badly did you hit her?"
"Nothing too bad. Hopefully her stomach will bruise... are you alright Enid?" She asked softy.
"Huh? Uh, yeah. Yeah, I'm fine. Its not like they tried to beat me up. I'm Enid by the way, but you already know that. Whats your name? I was kinda distracted when you were introduced to the class." Enid asked.
The short girl frowned and looked disappointed at the question. "So my suspicions are correct... you dont remember me-"
"Wait! What! We've met before!? Sorry, but are you sure? I'm pretty sure I would remember meeting someone who looked like you...THAT CAME OUT WRONG!" Enid squealed in embarrassment.
"I mean, you look unique! Like, I've never really met a goth that dressed like you! I mean your style is cool! And you're really pretty and I'd definitely remembered if I met someone as pretty as you and, and, and I'm gonna shut up now." Enid stuttered and covered her blushing face.
The girl huffed and suppressed a blush of her own. "Yes, well. I shouldn't be surprised. We were eleven when we last met, and I do have an abnormal memory, so it makes sense you dont remember me." She said sadly.
Enid lowered her hands and looked to the girl. "Oh. Yeah, I cant even remember what I ate last night for dinner."
The girl looked even more disappointed at Enid words and nodded. "... I see. Um, its ok...I...I should leave-"
"Wait!" Enid almost screamed. "Wait! At least let me try to remember!" The wolf pleaded, feeling surprisingly guilty at seeing the girl upset.
"You said we were eleven when we met, right? Well... Me and my family went to a big campsite during that summer, did we-"
Enid thought hard, trying to recount that summer trip. She remembered a bunch of water balloon fights. She remembered a waterpump in the middle of the campground that she and her brothers used to refill their balloons and water guns. She remembered her mom and dad laying on white plastic lawn chairs.
Then she started to remember a girl she had befriended. A girl who spoke perfectly. Who always carried an umbrella to protect herself from the sun and would watch her trying to climb trees or catch fish at a small river.
A girl who had a peculiar name.
Enid gasped, "Wednesday?!"
Wednesday didn't at all suppress the small smile on her lips.
>
Enid had spotted the girl almost an hour ago, and she had yet to move from her spot underneath a giant oak tree.
It was a scorching hot day, and Enid, her brothers and some other kids were in the middle of an intense water balloon fight. As they threw balloons, shot water out of their waterguns at eachother and ran around, she had locked eyes with the mysterious girl multipletimes, and everytime she did, the girl looked away.
"Hi!" Enid greeted the girl who looked like she had been snatched straight out of a black and white movie. And Although the day was extremely hot, she wore all black.
"... greetings." The girl drawled, eyeing up Enids drenched unicorn t-shirt and jean shorts in disgust.
"You wanna join in? We've got a spare super soaker?" Enid asked.
The girl grimaced at the notion. "I'd rather be waterborded." Enid tilted her head at the bizarre statement, but shrugged her shoulders.
"No idea what that means. My names Enid! What's yours?" Enid asked excitedly. The girl eyed her once again, seemingly sceptical about telling the girl anything about herself.
"Wednesday Addams."
"You're names is 'Wednesday'?"
Wednesday was about to reply with a sarcastic comment, but Enid spoke before she could. "Thats awesome! I've never met someone who was named after a day of the week!-"
"I was named after my mothers favourite poem, 'Wednesday's child is full of woe.' Not after a day of the week. If that was the case, i would have changed my name legally already."
Enid pouted. "But Wednesdays a pretty name!"
Wednesday slightly blushed at the comment and didn't respond, she merely looked back out to the water fight that was still waging. "Can I sit down? Ive been running around for an hour and need to dry off." Enid flashed the girl a sweet smile.
She looked at Enid with surprise, she was the first person that had approached and talked to her willingly. She nodded slowly. "Just keep your distance. I dont want to get wet."
The two girls sat in silence as they watch the other kids and Enids brothers run around, firing water balloons and shooting eachother with jets of water. Wednesday looked to the girl that sat beside her. She was slightly taller then herself, her skin was fare and she had shoulder length blonde hair.
There was also something else about her. She had a strange aura to her, the same aura certain members of her family had. She could see her slightly longer caine's when she smiled, and her scent was familiar. "You're a werewolf."
Enid whipped around and looked to the small girl with a hint of horror. "No! No I'm not! Why would you think-"
"I have plenty of relatives who are werewolves. You smell like wet dog, they smell like wet dog when they've been standing in the rain. Do you have a problem with werewolves?" Wednesday challenged.
Enid put her watergun aside and brought her knees up to her chin and wrapped her arms around them protectively. "... we dont smell like wet dogs when we're wet." Enid muttered.
"So I was right. You're a lycan. You're kind are quite fascinating. My cousin always lets me watch him transform when he is visiting on a full moon. How painful is it?"
Enid looked slightly relaxed again. "...please dont tell anyone. My Mom and Dad told me people dont like us, because they think we're dangerous. And it hurts. It hurts a lot. I dont really like it, but when ive finished transforming, it feels great!"
Wednesday hummed. "People don't like your kind because they don't understand. My relatives who are werewolves have never tried to harm another person who hasn't tried to harm them first."
Enid only nodded and looked back out to the war. Her mom and dad always told her not to let anyone other than another werewolf know she was one. But if this girl had werewolfs in her family, then it must have been ok.
>
"I still can't get over this! Its been forever!" Enid exclaimed as she and Wednesday exitited the schools bathroom. "Like, what are the odds!? And I'm sooo sorry for not recognising you."
Wednesday nodded, but still looked slightly disappointed and sad. "Its fine. Like I've stated, it's been 5 years. But I'm glad you remember me, even if it took a minute. Its... its good to see you again."
Enid beamed, "Same! Gosh, I still remember the first time we met. Me and my brothers were having a water fight and you were sulking up against a tree-"
"I was not, and never have sulked! You were the one who was sulking!" Wednesday stated as they walked down the empty school hallway, almost shoulder to shoulder.
"Ive never sulked. Ive only ever cried. Especially when you left. And dont tell me you weren't sulking when you had to leave." Enid teased.
Wednesday stopped walking and gave Enid a frown, almost as if the werewolf had hurt her feelings with her words. "Enid, I was upset that I was leaving because I wasn't sure if i would ever see you again." She said softly.
>
Enid sniffed and rubbed the tears from her eyes. For three weeks, she had spent practically everyday with the short girl who had just informed her that she was leaving the campsite to go back home. "I'm.. I'm gonna.. I'm gonna miss-" Enid tried to blubber out, but failed.
Wednesday frowned bitterly at the girls sadness. She would never not be surprised at how fast they had gotten close. "I cant live here forever Sinclair! I'm going to have to leave eventually." Wednesday scowled and crossed her arms. Enid was the only person outside of her family that ever treated her like a friend.
Not like Wednesday needed friends, but Enid had made this whole trip bearable. Since she always made the excuse of meeting up to play with her when her family was tormenting her with their endless showers of love.
"Hey."
Wednesday looked up to see Enid smiling as her with tears in her eyes. "I'm sure we'll meet again."
>
"And who was right~ told you we'd meet again!" Enid sang and skipped down the schools hallways toward her locker.
"... yes, i guess you were right Enid. And as I've said, its good to se-" Wednesday bumped into the wolfs back, who stopped suddenly in front of her locker.
"Thats new..." Enid deadpanned as she took in the drawings and words drawn on her locker door in permanent marker.
GET OUT!
BEWARE WEREWOLF
HUMAN EATTER
MUTTS ENTER HERE
Enid frowned at the sight of another cartoon werewolf, but this one must have been drawn by a member of the art club. It was far more detailed and gory then the one in the bathroom stall, with long fangs, red eyes and spikey ears. It always suprised Enid how brazen the studentbody was.
She figured if she was brave and stronger, she would pretty much run the school with their fear of werewolfs. If her brothers went to her school, she would never have to worry about another incident ever again.
Enid sighed as she opened her locker and pulled out a small bottle of nail polish remover and baby wipes. "...I hate this school. You should get outta here while you still can... and take me with you." The wolf said sadly as she started to wipe the words off.
As Enid work at getting rid of the graffiti, Wednesday thought for a moment. "...If thats what you want." She said quietly.
The wolf whipped around and look to the small goth with a harsh blush, which caused Wednesday to form a very slight one of her own, just before Enid burst out laughing.
"You literally havent changed a bit! Just like how i remember you... honestly, I'd love to run away with you, were we can start a brand new life where nobody knew us." Enid said in an over the top, wishful voice.
"But... That'd be impossible. I can't leave my pack behind and you cant leave your family, you'd break their hearts."
But it did sound nice. To go to place were no one knew her. Where she could walk down the street without getting weird looks, to go clothes shopping without security following her around the store. Being able to visit the mall or having a walk in the park without a bunch of teenagers jeering at her from a far.
And to go with a childhood friend, that sounded pretty nice. "Enid? Are you alright?".
Enid turned around to see Wednesday looking at her with her big brown eye full of worry. She quickly turned back round and started wiping harder.
"I'm ok! It's just that this stupid marker won't come off!"
Wednesday furrowed her brow at Enids plight. She had only been here a week and she had been keeping a close eye on her childhood friend, and she could tell she didnt have many friends, if any at all.
Which suprised Wednesday, because from what she remembered of her best friend from the camp she and her family visited for the summer all those years ago, she should be the most popular girl in the school.
But then again, the school knew Enid was a werewolf (evident from the writing on her locker) and most people didnt like them.
Wednesday lightly touched Enid shoulder and made her jump. "Ah! Uh, sorry. Ever since joining this school, I've been a bit jumpy."
The short goth flinched slightly, but nodded. "I understand, being trapped in a public school with prejudice, braindead, wastes of oxygen mustn't have been easy for you. It's just...you seemed distressed, I wanted to know if i could help?"
The giggle Enid let out caused Wednesday to scowl. "Still a big teddy bear under all at edge, huh?"
Wednesday calmly pulled out a taser and pulled the trigger, sending sparks flying out of the top. "Want to retract that statement, Sinclair?"
Enid jumped back in horror and stared back and forth between the short girl and the dangerous electric device. But her horrified expression turned into a soft, almost shy smile.
"You really haven't changed, have you? Wednesday Addams."
