Work Text:
Furina stared listlessly at her bedroom wall, it was the week after her trial and she just didn't know what to do anymore-
She had moved out of the Palais Mermonia as quickly as she could and into her now tiny apartment, she just couldn't stay there anymore, she knew if she did Neuvillette would be watching her every step and she just didn't need somebody commenting on how bad she looked or how she wasn't taking care of herself. She knew. (She knew- every time the disgusting woman in the mirror sneered back at her. How dare she? How dare she? The sickening thing she was-)
Furina continued to stare at the wall, spending several minutes? Hours? Days? counting the Imperfections on the white wall. (Ironic, wasn't it? Once perfect and pristine left to wither overtime...)
A sound makes her lift her head only to startle slightly as she comes nose to nose with a cat- no, it wasn't just any cat, it was a pretty tortoiseshell that lived around her new apartment whom she had taken a liking to- (Innocent and uncaring of her lies and falsehoods-)
She was unsure how the feline had gotten in, her own mismatched eyes staring at the large yellow ones in shock and confusion, all her windows were shut, the heavy blinds drawn, and the door most definitely locked; (She had checked over and over, afraid somebody would break in to get 'justice'- But isn't that what she deserved? Didn't she? Didn't she?)
The feline blinked slowly at her, sniffing at her nose curiously before it moved to rub its own cheek against the Ex-Archon with a soft purr, and Furina- just broke-
The once false God snatched up the cat, pulling the poor thing to her chest with a sob, but the cat barely reacts little more than a hitch in its purring as It relaxed against her chest, and that just made her sob harder.
"I-"
Furina curled herself around the purring feline like she was the only thing keeping Furina from sinking into 500 years of despair, having been the only living thing to show her true kindness since her trial had taken place. (They betrayed her- left her- left her- left her- Didn't they see she loved her them? Didn't they see she sacrificed everything for them? Didn't they?)
"I just don't understand...? It was all for n-nothing... all for my people to hate me, unknowing and uncaring of how I t-tried, I tried!" (She did! She did! And it was all for nothing- 500 years of work ruined in a few hours!)
Furina didn't expect a response from the feline, but she aired her grief anyways, it's not like anybody else would listen or care any more than the cat curled in her arms.
"I promise... I tried my best- i did..."
Furina felt her tears dry up as she started to become numb to the sadness that once filled her, nonetheless even as an empty pit formed were her feelings previously clawed at her insides, she clung to the cat; seeking its soft unconditional comfort. (Gods don't cry! But she's not a God- so why can't she cry? Why? Why?)
"Sorry... I've gone and gotten tears in your fur..."
Furina mumbled hoarsely into the cats neck, not pulling away despite her apologetic words, Instead, she closed her eyes and focused on the soothing rumbles coming from her companion, drifting off to a peasantry sleep for what felt like the first time...
