Blade and Cannon

Summary:

It has already been a few years since they first met. Yet she never fails to amaze her on the battlefield.

Notes:

I've written this for a friend mostly to try to get out of a depressing slump, and it might be working?? I don't feel like I wanna kill myself rn at least

Also this is my first time writing characters I'm unfamiliar with so please go easy on me (light criticism is still welcome though)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

It has already been a few years since they first met. And yet, Sona never fails to impress her on the battlefield.

Though lacking in raw strength, it was her agility and speed that truly made her shine. Always on the move, never letting a single enemy get a chance at landing a hit on her. Unlike Ashlock, she was birthed in the arena with nothing but a simple blade in hand, letting solely her instincts guide her to victory. And if it weren’t for her quick feet, she wouldn’t be standing proud as the Flametail Knight today.

She was swift as the wind, sharp as a whip; dodging enemy attacks with a grin on her face like she was dancing her heart out. And, begrudgingly, a small part of her wanted to join in on that dance.

Of course, mobility alone can only get her so far. Her body would soon grow weary, and those against her would prey on that vulnerability, eventually overwhelming her on all sides. But when she finds herself surrounded, she simply smirks, for she is not alone.

From afar, Ashlock would hail canonfire to all who oppose her team, clearing crowds with ceaseless might and fervor. Each fired shell aimed with great precision, leaving no enemy unscathed with each thrust of her cannonlance. And whoever dares come too close, would come to know the blunt force of her shield; The shield she swore would protect everything she had.

For they were sword and shield, wind and fire, and nothing could stand in their way together.

At least, that would be something Sona would say when the dust settles.

“Thanks for covering me,” The Zalak panted, leaning in for a quick peck on the cheek, “I don’t know what I’d do without you~”

With red blush dusting her cheeks, Greynuty cleared her throat before turning back to the redhead, “You fought well too, clearing out the front…”

Sona chuckled at her fluster, pulling her close, “Hehe~ C’mon then, let’s head back! I’m almost beat…”

“Yeah.. Me too…” Greynuty murmured, a strange warmth flooding her chest as she let her love lead her by the hand. To fight by the side of a knight like her was certainly an honor to have.
