The Girl Next Door

Work Text:

It all started on a quiet, golden summer afternoon, when Jisoo parked her little scooter in front of the cozy white-picket fence house, fresh out of grad school, eyes sparkling with youth, mischief, and more than a little curiosity.

The house next door was what first caught her attention. Or more specifically, the woman tending to the plants by the porch, barefoot, in a loose cotton blouse and soft light-washed jeans, her pretty bob fluttering in the breeze.

Jisoo leaned against her handlebars, her eyes trailing the shape of the woman’s back, the elegant way she moved. Older. Beautiful. So soft. So sweet looking.

The woman turned and smiled warmly. "New in the neighbourhood?"

Jisoo smirked. "Just moved in. And you must be the welcome committee."

The woman laughed softly. "I’m Hannie. And yes, guilty as charged."

That laugh. That voice. Jisoo had a thing for older women. Soft spoken, graceful, the ones who blushed when you got too close. She couldn’t help but flirt a little harder.

"I'm Jisoo. You should be careful being this nice to strangers, Unnie. They might fall in love."

Hannie blinked at the sudden honorific, surprised but amused. "Unnie? You’re cheeky."

"Only when I see someone worth being cheeky for."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jisoo started showing up more. With her signature cocky smile, and excuse after excuse.
“Unnie, I baked too many cookies, you want some?”
“Need help with your groceries, Unnie?”
“Your porch light’s flickering. Want me to fix it?”
And Hannie, who lived alone with her college going daughter away most days, always let her in. She always wore those soft, oversized cardigans. Her voice was always gentle. And she always looked surprised when Jisoo’s hand would linger just a bit too long.
One night, over tea, Jisoo stared at Hannie’s delicate fingers wrapped around the mug.
"Do you know how pretty you are, Unnie?"
Hannie blushed, setting her cup down.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

It happened in the rain.

Hannie was on her way home, her blouse soaked. Jisoo saw her rushed with an umbrella, pulling her under it.

They were both wet. Close. Breathing heavily.

Hannie looked up, eyes wide, lips parted.

And Jisoo couldn’t help it.

She kissed her.

It was firm. Hungry. Honest.

Hannie gasped, pulling back. “Jisoo…”

Jisoo held her face gently, thumb brushing her cheek. “You can tell me to stop.”

Silence. Then Hannie’s hands clutched at Jisoo’s shirt, pulling her in again.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The lights were dim. The room smelled like rain and vanilla.
Jisoo kissed down Hannie’s neck, whispering, “Tell me what you need, Unnie.”
Hannie trembled under her touch. “Just be kind.”
“I’ll be kind,” Jisoo said, kissing her shoulder, “but not soft.”
That night, Jisoo worshipped her. She used a strap, slow and deep, hands gripping Hannie’s hips, her voice low, commanding.
“Say my name, Unnie.”
Hannie gasped, tears slipping out from the sheer emotion of it. She hadn’t been touched in so long. Not like this. Not with reverence. Not like she was wanted. Desired.
“You’re mine now,” Jisoo whispered, holding her close after, stroking her hair. “All mine.”
They became a secret. A spark that burned too brightly.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Hannie’s daughter, Jiyeon, returned from campus more often, and slowly she and Jisoo became friends. Movie nights, lazy brunches, laughter.

Jiyeon teased Jisoo often. "You act like you live here, Jisoo Unnie. You and Mom are so close. Maybe you should just move in. Be my cool stepmom or something."

Jisoo only smirked. “Careful, Jiyeon. I just might.”

Months passed. Hannie tried to keep her distance, to keep things quiet. But Jisoo was relentless.

Soft glances turned into firm kisses in the hallway. Late night touches. Whispers.

And finally, Hannie let her into her heart for good. Into her house. Into her life.

When Hannie’s birthday came, Jisoo gave her a wrapped box.

Inside, a delicate necklace with a single charm. A tiny daisy with “Unnie” engraved in silver.

“I know I’m young,” Jisoo said, taking Hannie’s hand, “and you probably didn’t plan for a girl like me to barge into your neighbourhood and into your bed. But I’m not going anywhere. So let me stay. As your girl. As Jiyeon’s friend. As whatever you’ll let me be.”

Hannie’s eyes filled with tears. She kissed Jisoo.

And Jisoo leaned in, smiled, and whispered, “Happy birthday, Unnie.”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jiyeon was humming as she came up the stairs.
She opened the door to Hannie’s bedroom, and instantly froze.
There, tangled in soft sheets and sunlight -
“Unnie you are so fucking tight! So good for me.”
Jiyeon slapped both hands over her eyes, backing out of the room so fast she nearly tripped over. “MOM?! JISOO-UNNIE?!”
Inside, Hannie let out a loud squeak, mortified beyond words. Jisoo, meanwhile, had frozen mid-movement and just blinked at the door.
“Well,” Jisoo said slowly, brushing hair from Hannie’s face, “that’s one way to tell her.”
Hannie groaned and buried her face in a pillow. “I’m never leaving this room again.”
Later that afternoon, Jiyeon sat stiffly on the couch, eyes wide with trauma and a cookie clutched in each hand. Jisoo sat across from her, sheepish but smirking, and Hannie looked like she wanted to melt into the floor.
“So I know I joked about this before but…” Jiyeon began. “How long has this thing been going on?”
Jisoo cleared her throat. “Since after a month I moved here.”
“And you didn’t think to tell me?”
“I was going to tell you! We just wanted to be sure first.” Hannie reached out, gently holding her daughter’s hand.
Jiyeon looked between them. Her mom, cheeks pink and eyes soft. Jisoo, suddenly all bashful. Despite the chaos, there was something sweet. Steady. Right.
She let out a long sigh. “Fine. I’m fine. Mom as long as you happy it’s fine. But no more morning surprises, okay? Please lock your doors.”
“Deal,” Jisoo grinned. “No more accidental live trauma. Cross my heart.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

A week later, Jiyeon came home to fairy lights strung across the living room, her favourite cake on the table, and a handmade card that read:

To our favourite girl, with love - Mom & your new (hot) stepmom.

Jiyeon rolled her eyes. “You’re lucky you’re hot, Jisoo Unnie and you make my Mom happy.”

Jisoo winked. “And you're lucky I plan great birthdays and can bake.”

They all laughed. Hannie kissed Jiyeon’s forehead, then kissed Jisoo's cheek.

And Jiyeon had to admit, she’d never seen her mom this happy.
