“Are you excited?”
”Mhm!!”
Yuna spun around, showing off her Bakemon costume.
It was a ghost with a Digimon twist, and she liked it, so that was enough.
Yuki wore the cutest little Wormmon onesie. (Wormmon himself said it looked very cute.)
”Hey, are my lil Digimon ready to go Trick-Or-Treating?!” Daisuke shouted, running into the room with little Tomomi in his arms.
”YEAH!!” Both kids excaimed.
Ken chuckled, and gave his husband a little peck on the cheek.
”Are you ready, papa?” Yuki asked, looking up at him with big, bright eyes.
Ken got down on his knees to match the little boy’s height, and tousled his hair.
”If I’m with you four rascals, always.”
Daisuke laughed, putting Tomomi in the baby carrier.
”Alright! Let’s march! One, two, one, two, c’mon, Digimon!”
Daisuke led everyone outside, the kids following his example and marching confidently.
With how popular Takeru’s books had gotten, Ken thought it likely they’d probably see some kids dressed up as the Chosen Children.
The thought of a little boy dressed up as Daisuke made him smile.
He definitely deserved that admiration.
”Trick-or-treat!!” Yuna and Yuki knocked on a door and held out their buckets with the biggest grins on their faces.
With those faces, how could anyone not give them candy?
A lady dressed up as a witch placed some candy in both kids’ buckets, and they turned back to their dads happily.
”Daddy, papa, look!”
”Oh, yummy! C’mon, let’s go to the next house! Yuna, I’ll race you!”
”Careful, he plays soccer.” Ken added with a smile.
”I’ll beat daddy! Yuki, can you hold my bucket?”
The little boy nodded, taking the bucket as Daisuke and Yuna dashed off. He followed closely behind.
“Hi!”
Oh, a little boy.
A little boy in a costume...a...a...
...oh.
”Hello.”
Ken tried to hide the look in his eyes with a smile.
”I’m the Digimon Kaiser!! Could you tell?”
“Yes, I...I could tell really easily. It’s a really good costume.”
”Thank you!! Can I have some candy?”
”We left our bucket outside our house,” Ken pointed to the porch. “Over there.”
”Okay! Thanks, mister!”
The little boy ran off, and Ken just stared at the ground for a moment.
He knew what Daisuke would say, he didn’t have to blame himself anymore, but he’d never truly stopped.
”Hey? Ken...?”
He jumped and turned around when he felt a hand on his shoulder.
Daisuke.
His eyes widened when he saw the tears streaming down Ken’s face.
”Hey...what’s wrong...?”
”N-Nothing, it...it’s stupid. Let’s just go, the kids were so excit-”
“No. If you’re upset about it, then it is not stupid. You know you can talk to me, babe.”
Ken glanced away for a second, before looking back at those beautiful brown eyes.
”Okay...um...” He gulped. “There was a little boy dressed up as...as the Digimon Kaiser...”
“...oh.”
Daisuke kissed him, softly and beautifully, though anything Daisuke did was beautiful.
”I’m sorry,” He took Ken’s hands in his and squeezed them tight. “I guess I didn’t think of that, even though it probably should’ve been obvious.”
“Don’t you make it your fault, Dai.”
He chuckled.
”Thank you, Daisuke.”
”Of course, Ken. You know I’m always here for you.”
They kissed one more time, before pulling away.
”I’ll race you this time.”
”Oh, you’re challenging the Rocket?”
”I think I could take him.”
Ken grinned.
”You’re on.”
The two of them ran over to join Yuna and Yuki.
Ken was so glad to have Daisuke as his husband.
