Marinette frantically tried to figure out how she had set loose over a dozen demons. The candles were placed correctly. Maybe she had mispronounced the spell?
“No need to be afraid,” the red and black one said. “We’re grateful you freed us, Marinette!”
“Huh? But we’re bound to her?”
“Shh!”
“Don’t tell her that!”
“Now she knows she can control us!”
Marinette stumbled over herself in a panic. “You’re mistaken, there’s no way a novice mage like me could bind even one demon, let alone all of you!” Even the most powerful mages couldn’t manage that!
The demons were unconvinced.
