Chapter Text
Present day
The world..isn't as peaceful as it used to be. Things have changed, in every way possible. You see..people get infected with this virus, and go through with this horrible fever that eventually kills them within a few hours, and makes them come back to life, eating every living thing that it comes across.
This new life wasn't easy to adjust to, constantly worrying about surviving and whether you have enough food to last makes things a lot more difficult for everyone.
A certain blue haired boy was sitting in his tree house that he had found a few months ago, sharpening his knife with a blank expression on his face. He was lost in his thoughts, thinking about how this madness had started..
It was Friday 14th October, 2 in the afternoon. Everyone had just finished 5th period and was getting ready for their next class.
Sonic was by his locker, talking with one of his best friends; Amy. “As per usual, Sally is rubbing it in my face that her family is rich. Oh! And that her and Shadow are together.” He would roll his eyes in annoyance, you see..Sonic has a huge crush on Shadow, so he was incredibly jealous. And his family isn’t exactly rich, but they aren’t poor either.
“Just ignore her, she’s trying to get under your skin. And clearly, it’s working.” Amy would smirk a little, bashing her elbow into Sonic’s hip. Sonic would just roll his eyes and mumble under his breath. “She’s done this since middle school, it’s getting old now.” Sonic placed his books inside of his locker, then slammed it shut.
“Ooo, someone's not happy.” A voice from behind said, it was from another one of Sonic’s best friends; Knuckles. Sonic would turn around and just stare at him. “No shit Sherlock, want a medal?” He would say in a sarcastic tone, Rouge would flick him on the forehead.
“Blue don’t be sarcastic, what’s got you in this mood?” Rouge would fold her arms, and raise one of her eyebrows. Amy placed a hand on her hip, and closed her locker. “Sally.” Knuckles and Rouge didn’t need to say anything else, they knew immediately without Amy needing to explain any further.
“Ah..well, don’t worry about her Blue!” Rouge would say with a cheerful tone, Knuckles would hum in response. Sonic gave the two a grumpy look, and didn’t say anything. “Anyways..on a brighter note. The others wants to meet up after school to hang out at the mall, you two in?” Knuckles would ask.
Amy would look at Sonic, and he would look at her. “I think that’s a great idea, it will take your mind off of the Sally situation.” Amy would place a hand on Sonic's shoulder, giving him a warm smile.
“The trouble is..Sally will be there with Shadow, but if need be we can always go elsewhere if she starts to annoy you.” Rouge had pointed out, Sonic would sigh and eventually nodded his head. Accepting their invitation.
“Blaze messaged the group chat to let us know where we will meet and what time to be there.” Knuckles would say, Rouge nodding her head in agreement to his statement.
“Okay cool, me and Amy better get to Chem before Miss Rashford screams at us again.” Sonic laughed, the other three would laugh too. Rouge and Knuckles waved the two goodbye, and eventually left. Sonic and Amy went to their lesson.
After school…
Sonic and Amy were on their way to meet their friends, Sonic was a little quiet and Amy was just chatting away. “...so I told her it wasn’t a good idea but she still did it any-” Amy would then look at Sonic, she looked a little concerned.
“Sonic, is there something else bothering you? You’ve been quiet all day. I’m worried, you can talk to me, you know.” Amy would say, placing a hand on his shoulder.
“Yeah..but it’s fine. Nothing important.” Sonic exclaimed, waving his hand frantically. He gave Amy a small smile. But Amy had suspicions that her best friend was lying.
Amy decided not to pry, after all it seemed like whatever was on Sonic’s mind was definitely bothering him. Prying would just make things worse.
It was awkward, until Amy started chatting away again. Sonic would just hum and nod, Amy couldn’t help but wonder.. What is he thinking about that is bothering him so much?
After 20 minutes of walking, Sonic and Amy were close to the mall. “I hope the others haven’t waited long, some of them have messaged the group chat saying they arrived roughly 15 minutes ago,” Amy stated, Sonic would hum in response.
“We don’t exactly live close, I’m sure they’ll understand if we’re a little late.” Sonic replied, folding his arms behind his head. “Hm..yeah I suppose you’re right.” Amy replied with a small sigh.
And then out of the blue; a noise, that sounded like glass shattering..had echoed throughout the outside area. The two of them jumped out of their skin, alarmed; they immediately ran towards the mall.
Before they could reach the entrance, a huge crowd of people came bursting out of the automatic sliding doors. Shattering the glass in the process, the glass shattering noise the two of them had heard previously; was the windows.
“Uh..what the fuck?” Sonic would say loudly, himself and Amy stood still..not daring to move..it was silent for a few moments. They continued moving towards the entrance, but at a slower pace. They were a little cautious, and most of all confused.
As they got closer to the entrance, they heard a scream. The woman that was screaming came crawling outside, she was covered in blood, scratches and bite marks. Then she looked at Sonic and Amy.
“H..elp..me..” She would say, reaching her hand out towards them. The two looked horrified, and then all of a sudden..another person was walking really slowly, but..they didn’t look human.
They had really pale skin, almost as white as a ghost. There were a lot of scratch marks all over their body, there was blood everywhere..and their clothes were ripped apart. Their eyes..more specifically their pupils, were white.
Sonic and Amy were horrified at this point..they had never seen anything like it before. Was this a dream? Was this a nightmare? What was going on? WHat was this thing they were both looking at?
The creature had lunged at the injured woman, and began biting at her neck and scratching her body. Her screams were crying bloody murder, it was horrible to watch.
Out of instinct, Sonic grabbed Amy’s hand and started running. They dared not to look back, and just kept running. The two began shouting out their friends names, hoping to get a response. But, they heard nothing in return.
They decided to stop behind a shop for a moment, they thought they were safe. Until..they heard the sound of groans and the movement of slow walking.. fuck.
They started running for their lives again, this time..the creatures were following them. But thankfully, they were slow and couldn’t keep up with the two. They didn’t pose a threat to Sonic and Amy.
And..they never looked back.
Present day
So for the past year, it was just Sonic and Amy. They didn’t know where their friends were or IF they’re even alive, and that thought terrifies them..
There was a small hope that they were still alive. Sonic believed in his friends..especially..Shadow. He knew Shadow was most likely alive..but there was a small part of him that had his doubts..
Sonic was still lost in his train of thoughts, he lightly exhaled against his wooden knife he had just handcrafted, proud of his work. A small smile crept up onto his face.
He heard someone making a noise, or rather..a signal. Sonic knew it was Amy, because they agreed if either of them had to find food or other bits they would signal to each other that they returned.
Sonic would peak over the deck of the tree house, and saw those familiar pink hair he had known for so many years. “Hey Ames, glad you made it back safely.” He would say, a smirk appearing across his cheeks.
“Wipe that smirk off of your face.” She would look up, rolling her eyes at her friend. Sonic would just laugh as Amy would climb up the ladder.
“I found a building that isn’t too far from here, but..it’s overrun with the undead.” She explained, reaching the top of the ladder and lifting herself onto the deck. “How overrun are we talking about here?” Sonic would ask.
“Not too overrun, but just enough to get ourselves killed in.” She responded, placing her backpack down on the floor carefully. “Damn, we would need extra help then.” Sonic ran his fingers through his hair, then folded his arms across his chest.
“I managed to find us some eggs and some water. It will do for tonight, but it will be your turn to go out tomorrow this time.” Sonic would nod his head, humming in response to her statement.
Sonic would hang his legs over the deck, lost in his thoughts once again. Amy would sit down next to him, glad to be off her feet.
“Something on your mind, I can tell.” Amy would say, Sonic would open his mouth as if he wanted to say something. “And don’t give me the usual bullshit that you’re fine, I can tell somethings wrong. What’s up?” A tone of concern could be heard through her voice, Sonic would sigh.
“Well..remember a year ago when we were walking to the mall you asked me what was on my mind? Well..me and Shadow had an argument, and I never got to apologise for it..it was the last interaction I had with him before the world went to shit..” He would pause, taking a moment to breathe.
“What happened in the argument?” Amy would ask, a small frown appearing on her face.“Well..”
