Work Text:

X came back to the hotel from the cafe with a drink tray, holding him and Four’s usual order, plus an additional iced coffee for Two, who wasn’t feeling well as of late. Despite Four’s hatred of the green number, seeing them in a slump like this made him upset, so he told X to get not only their regular orders, but something extra for Two as well.

X walked into the room where he resided with Four, placing the drink tray down on their nightstand.

“Four! I’m back!” He called out to the room, causing Four to come out from his mini-room and hug the variable, planting a kiss on his cheek.

“Hello, X!” Four said happily while grabbing his vanilla latte from the drink tray and taking a sip. X mirrored him, taking a sip of his own drink. (A caramel macchiato.)

“So, do you think we should bring Two their drink? Have they not left their room while I was gone?” X asked with slight concern. Despite being the one who suggested they get Two the drink in the first place, Four scowled at this.

“Yeah, I guess we should…” Replied Four, looking down at his cup.

X picked up the drink tray again and the pair made their way to Two’s room, not talking as they walked down the hallway. When they made it to their room, X knocked softly, beckoning to reply. He knocked a little louder, with no answer once again. Just as he was about to knock for the third time, Four got fed up and opened the door himself, as it was left unlocked.

They saw Two laying down on their bed, the covers kicked off, with empty food wrappers from Four and X’s kitchen littered around the room. Their was a whiteboard next to the bed, but the writing on it was indecipherable to the duo. The air in Two’s room was thick with the smell of somebody who hasn’t showered in several days.

X was the first to approach them, holding out the drink tray and speaking in a sunny voice etched with concern, “Hi, Two! Uh, we heard you weren’t feeling so great, so we brought you a coffee!”

“Iced matcha latte. Your favourite.” Four said coldly, not leaving the doorway. While he wanted his old friend to be alright, he still wasn’t too fond of them.

Two looked over at them with sad eyes, not able to muster up any words. He stayed motionless in his bed, not making any indication that he even recognized their presence. X placed the drink on their nightstand, next to their bed, brushing off a couple food wrappers onto the floor to make space.

X, having taken care of Four during his depressive episodes before, figured he should try what worked for Four, hoping it would help Two as well. He bent down and picked up the food wrappers, going around the room and picking up all the ones he can find. (Which is a lot.)

“X, what are you doing? I thought we were just going to give them a coffee and leave.” Asked Four, whispering so as not to be heard by the number on the bed.

“We can’t just leave them like this, can we? You know what it was like when you were this way. We should help!” Replied the variable. X was already stuffing the food wrappers into an already overstuffed trash can before stepping back and taking a look at it. “Hmm. We should get a garbage bag. I think there are some in the supply closet, come on!”

“X!” Four exclaimed, but he was already being dragged by the arm to the supply closet, before having a pack of garbage bags, some wipes, a cloth, and an all-purpose cleaning spray thrust into his arms.

Four grumbled but begrudgingly came back with X to the hotel room, providing lackluster attempts at helping his partner to clean. Two watched the pair clean from their bed, their eyes widening slightly in surprise. They didn’t expect anybody to clean up after them.

Almost an hour later, the room was completely spotless. Four had got into a rhythm with X around halfway through, and the two cleaned faster and more efficiently then they ever had before.

The food wrappers and debris were all in a garbage bag in the corner of the room. The window was wiped down, the floors swept, and the whiteboard wheeled out to Fanny’s room, as it was hers and she was just keeping it in Two’s room for storage, but looking at it made Two spiral and Four and X found it confusing.

Wiping some sweat off his brow, X turned around to look at the perfectly clean room. He high-fived Four and walked over to Two, who had drunk their iced coffee over the course of the cleaning.

“Are you feeling a bit better now? Sometimes being in a clean space can help.” X said softly. He kneeled down in front of the bed, eye-level with Two, who had turned over and was looking back at him.

“…Thanks, guys…” Two whispered. Their voice was raspy and horse from lack of use, but this progress towards communication made X grin and Four just barely crack a smile.

“You’re welcome, Two, anytime.” Replied X, planting a kiss on their forehead before standing up, making Four scoff. “Oh, you can get one, too, Four.” X said while rolling his eyes and walking over to Four, kissing them on the cheek like he had done to X earlier. This made Four’s face flush a slightly darker blue.

After that, Four and X went back to their own hotel room, waving goodbye to Two, who managed a weak smile and a stiff wave back. This made X quite happy, as it was much better than they were able to do when the pair first entered the room.

Two was making progress.
