Work Text:
If you knew Akito, you’d think he hates studying.
He’s constantly complaining about it, finds excuses to not study, trying to avoid it as much as possible.
But, truthfully, he doesn’t hate it entirely.
Does it take forever? Yes.
Is it a waste of time? Absolutely, he could be using that time to practice and get better with his team.
Even then, hate is too strong of a word.
Just because of one single factor:
Toya.
When Toya’s explaining a subject to Akito, his eyes are light, face bright as he tries to teach Akito what functions are for the millionth time.
If Toya stumbles on a hard question while doing worksheets, his brows slightly furrow, and his tongue slightly sticks out.
When Akito answers a question that he didn’t understand before correctly, Toya practically glows with pride, his eyes filled with so much love that Akito thinks he might drown in it.
So, who can blame him if he gets distracted while Toya, calm and collected, writes clear and understandable notes for him to get better at whatever he was struggling at?
The duo sat at a small table next to a large window at Crase Cafe, waiting for Kohane and An to finish up their date before practicing. They agreed that, while waiting, Toya would help Akito study for the next English exam they had.
Akito had an empty plate in front of him, once filled with fluffy pancakes–a new recipe MEIKO wanted him to try–while Toya occasionally sipped from his mug of black coffee. The lingering sweetness on his tongue mixed with the bitter smell of the coffee, making him feel drowsy.
His head was in his hand, elbow resting on the table as he watched Toya’s slender hands write neat notes, highlighters in many sizes and colors sitting by the notebook, getting picked up from time to time as Toya made the words look pretty.
Slowly, his gaze rose up, admiring Toya’s features.
His eyebrows, barely furrowed as he wrote down word after word.
His eyes, bright and determined, shined like a full moon, silver always drawing olive eyes in.
His nose, slightly scrunched as he erases a small, practically unnoticeable mistake.
His lips, set in a straight line that almost looked as pretty as when he smiled, free and unrestrained.
Akito, so lost in the beauty that is Toya, failed to see MEIKO and Miku across each other at the counter, snickering at his lovesickness.
Then, Toya looks up at him, seemingly finished with the notes. He tilts his head a little, confusion resting on his face.
“Akito? Is everything alright?”
With a silly smile on his face, he nods, before reaching over the small table to give Toya a little peck on the cheek.
He pulls back, looking at Toya’s flustered face. “I’m alright, partner.”
Toya seems to buffer for a few seconds, before–
BAM!
Akito’s face gets slammed with the notebook in Toya’s hands.
MEIKO and Miku instantly stop giggling, jaw dropped. Miku covers her mouth with her hands, while MEIKO sighs then walks to the back to get some ice for Akito’s definitely bruised nose.
“Here are your notes, please study them well because if you don’t study hard enough you’re going to fail and I’m going to be heartbroken so Akito please–” Toya begins spewing, before Akito groans.
He leans away from the notebook and clutches his nose. Toya freezes for the second time, pulling the notebook away slowly before seeing Akito in pain. The split haired boy gasps before standing up and quickly heading over to Akito’s side of the table.
Toya grabs Akito’s face gently, tilting his head up. “Oh my goodness, Akito! Are you okay? I’m so sorry–”
Akito raises his hand to silence Toya, shoulders shaking. Toya seems on the verge of tears, before Akito starts laughing. MEIKO brings the ice in a small bag surrounded by a thin towel and hands it to the ginger, who nods in thanks then places it on his nose.
“A-Akito..?”
He slowly calms down, nose aching as he looks at Toya with shining eyes and a wide grin.
“Damn, partner, you sure can hit hard.” Toya’s eyes flash with guilt, so Akito gently pulls him by the neck–removing the ice pack–to place a small peck on his lips, then both cheeks, then his mole. He repeats it all over his face before Toya, flushed a pretty pink, begins giggling at the ticklish feeling, guilt almost fully gone. After a few minutes, he places one longer kiss on Toya’s lips, then pulls back.
Toya’s eyes still seem clouded, so Akito begins speaking.
“Hey, Toya. I’m fine. It was a little accident, and you apologized, so it’s alright. It didn’t even hurt that much. Just a bit in the moment, but as soon as the ice touched my nose, all the pain went away. No need to worry, okay?” Toya hesitates, then nods. Akito doesn’t need to mention that his nose was a little sore. “Good. Now, I think I see Kohane and An through the window, so let's talk about it later. Is that good with you?”
“Alright, Aki.” Toya lifts Akito’s face, then presses a light kiss to his forehead, just as An and Kohane walk in.
An pretends to gag, which Akito glares at her for, before he stands with Toya to head over to the other duo, hand in hand.
