“Do you think we’re the ones who wage the war or the ones who’re the victims of it?” Matt falters.
An unexpected question, and he goes to answer it—except no words come from his mouth. He tries again, tries to say the victims. Except he can't.War has a way of following men home, even when it wears a different uniform. Where church bells toll over sirens and blood dries black between the cracks in the pavement, Matt finds himself haunted by old violence. There are devils in the city, certainly—but whether Matt is hunting them, becoming one, or simply kneeling before another altar entirely remains to be seen.
