When Will began his career as a mortician he did it for two reasons a) he needs money and b) he doesn’t like people, he didn’t do it to deal with a fat headed oaf of a cryptid that keeps showing up that he has to constantly sneak out. He thinks the man’s fucking annoying but he’s not about to perform his duties on something that isn’t technically dead brining us to the predicament he’s found himself in now.
“Ello darling, do you come here often?” James says in that horrible accent he likes to put on some times. (that Will, will be the one of that gurney before he admits he actually finds kinda funny)
“James you twat I thought I told you to stop showing up on my fucking gurney and go find like I don’t know a coffee shop or something to spend your day in.” Will feels like he’s had this conversation with James at least a million times as he’s started showing up that last couple of months.
“Aw are you offering to take me out to coffee sweetheart your too kind, but it’s not my fault this time I was jumped by a group of priests trying to exorcise me because they saw me drink blood which was ethically sourced by only the oldest of goats by the way. Then when that didn’t work given the fact I’m not a demon they kinda just knocked me and engraved some bible verses in my skin then left me there, which lead to me being brought here given the fact my heart wasn’t beating because I don’t have one.” James ends his long ass rant with jazz hands as if what he just said wasn’t an extremely fucked up thing to happen.
“Oh my Christ, are you alright mate?” Will started looking over James form even though he knows most of the damage is probably under the hospital gown James was brought in with but call him a mother hen but James has been the closest thing he’s had to a friend since his breakup so he wants to makes sure he’s alright.
“Yeah, at least when I woke up I had a pretty view.” James winked which made Will slap him over the back of the head.
“I really should start leaving clothes here if I’m going to keep ending up butt ass naked on your gurney, shit I hope nobody’s stolen my bag from my spot while I was unconscious it’s got all my shit in it.” James says in a panic as he hops off the gurney a bit to quickly as he falls to the cold floor.
“Jesus mate, slow down you’re still recovering from being out cold and why does your bag have all of your shit in it could you not leave that at home?” Will asked as he helped James get back on to the gurney.
“I don’t have a house I don’t have any papers given the fact I’m not human so I just kinda wonder, if it makes you feel any better this here morticians office is kinda like my home with you in it.” James tried to wrap his problem up with a joke and a cheeky grin but Will is having none of it.
“Do you not have any friends you could stay with, man?” Will worried about James out there on the streets the man is huge but he’s a fucking gentle giant he’d be surprised if the man’s ever gotten into a fight in his life he would get his ass handed to him and he’d be back on the gurney.
“Haven’t got any friends nobody seems to like the loud annoying man who looks like he knows the difference between the shades raspberry and amaranth, which means lucky for you you haven’t got any competition ain’t you just lucky.” James attempted to joke again but it fell flat. James was so right when he said Will was lucky, Will was lucky to have even met James never mind get to hang out with him as much as he does. Honestly anyone would be lucky to have James as a acquaintance never mind a friend and the thought of people turning away this bright, bubbly man that while slightly annoying sometimes, managed to light up the room even Wills depressing job as a mortician feels lighter with James constant banter beside him and when James had to end up leaving Will feels heavier, wishing James could stay beside him with his quick wit and banter forever. Which leads to Wills decision.
“You’re coming home with me.” Will announces after a long silence, starring straight at James even while the man himself is looking at the floor as if it holds the answers to the universe.
“What?” James snaps his neck upwards to look Will in the eyes.
“No come on man I already force you to spend to much time with me I’ll just go try and find my bag and find somewhere to stay the night.” James makes another move to get up and leave which Will stops before he even makes it off the gurney placing his hand in the middle of James chest. His body a comforting cold due to lack of blood flowing through it.
“Nope you may sit there for the hour until my shift is up and then we sneak you out and we can both sleep in my bed and I’ll get you proper clothes tomorrow to replace whatever shit you had in that bag. Then to thank me for it you’re going to stay with me and keep me company, okay?” Will never breaks eye contact with James while he rants which is why he’s shocked when big arms wrap themselves around him and James props his chin on Wills shoulder before whispering a wobbly,
“Okay.”
