Orange

Summary:

Pin reminisces about all of her favourite colours!

Especially one in particular.

Work Text:

Pin likes a lot of colours.

Each and every one of them holds some kind of meaning to both her, and those around her.

Red is a symbol of passion and fierceness, and the colour she’s painted in.She feels as though she’s intertwined with the colour, as she shares many of the traits that it’s commonly associated with.

Yellow is cheerful, yet intelligent.A symbol of creativity and trust, something she deeply values, especially as a team leader.

Green is associated with life and prosperity, a colour that perfectly sits between being a warm tone and being a cool tone.A symbol of peace.Something she wished the people around her would take into more consideration.

Blue was known for being a calm and soothing colour, symbolising wisdom, and emotional stability, which was something that had always been difficult for her to master, but had been so beneficial to her once she realised to achieve it.

And purple is the colour of royalty, associated with ambition and power.Something that came with great responsibility. As did leading a team, which was something that she always had to take into consideration.

All of these colours mean a lot to her.

But, admittedly, there’s no colour she loves more than orange.

A colour associated with warmth, enthusiasm and happiness.A sense of adventure and confidence.

It also just so happens to describe her best friend, who is also painted in a deep shade of orange.

It was always something that she would seek out, both for herself, and for others.A deep sense of confidence and genuine joy.

A feeling that he, more than anyone else, gave her.

It often felt a little cheesy, a little embarrassing to her that this was her favourite colour.

She could’ve loved any other colour, but it just so happens to be his colour that catches her eye.

She likes to think that it’s a coincidence, that her favourite colour just so happens to be closely tied with him, but she knows that it’s isn't really the truth.

She loves the colour so much, because she loves him so much.

In what way, you may ask?She isn’t really sure of it.

Sure, they’ve always labelled each other as ‘best friends’, but the butterflies in her stomach from staring at him a little too long suggest that there’s more to it then that.

Sometimes, she wishes she hated the colour orange.Maybe then her feelings towards him would be easier to swallow, easier to ignore.

But she knows that she’s never gonna feel that way.

Because she loves it too much.

And she loves him too much.

It’s like his smile is ingrained in her vision. She can’t stop thinking about orange. She can’t stop thinking about him.

Even when he’s not there, even when she’s looking at something else, anything else, there it is again.Whether it be a radiant orange glow from sunset, or the deep orange band of Needle’s new wristwatch, she can’t stop being reminded of him.

And she doesn’t know whether or not that’s a good thing.

It means that she’s, yet again, reminded of her complicated feelings towards him.New feelings bubbling up within her that she doesn’t understand.

But it also means she gets to focus on that sweet smile for just a little longer. After all, she’ll be able to make it through these new feelings with him, right?

Because when she’s with him, anything is possible.
