"For the first three nights, Charlie listened to Nick cry himself to sleep. He didn't do anything about it, not daring to move a muscle until the soft sniffles coming from the bed next to him stuttered to a stop. It always took Nick around thirty minutes to exhaust himself, but each time was more harrowing than the last.
