Chapter Text
Sparta's halls were so grand they almost reminded Menelaus of home. Golden and filled with bronze, King Tandury's palace not home. And hopefully a place for them to stay for a while, if only Agamemnon would convice the king off sparta to take them in.
Why couldn't he go into the room with his brother?
No, he had to stay outside .
Well, Menelaus knows why.
It started when his sister woke him and Agamemnon. And she explained to him that he had to leave. That his father was dead and his stepmother had killed herself, and she was going to stay back to help Theistiy, to let the boys live in exile instead of killing them, but now they had to leave. Everything was so fast. Too fast.
The last thing Menelaus thinks he remembers is his sister saying, "Agamemnon, you must take care of the family. Do you understand? Menelaus is your responsibility now. DO YOU UNDERSTAND?"
to his frantically knotting brother.
And now he was in this almost home,
Waiting alone,
wandering, alone.
"Are you our new problem?"
a slightly older girl then him in costly clothes stood in front of Menelaus.
Behind her, a younger girl in similar clothes.
"Yes," he answered quickly.
"You see, Iphthime, I was right, these Mercenary boys will be a problem for us."
"No," Menelaus screamed again, the words out running his thoughts.
"No? So you just lied? Well, that makes you worse. A Lair makes a horrible gust, does he not?”
The girl behind her started to laugh a little, at these words from the older girl.
The sound is like a striking spell
"You're wrong," Menelaus tries.
"You think a Lairs make for good Gusts ?"
The laughter was no longer muffled.
Before Menelaus could get himself deeper into to this spiders web.
A loud, authoritarian, male voice began to hall through the room
"Penelope".
The ladylike laughter of cruelty, stopped immediately.
As the older girl ran away, the younger girl followed.
Menelaus looked for the source.
It must have come from the top of some stairs.
He found no old man.
Not even a young man.
But a girl?
She was about his age.
His savior begins to walk down the stairs, like the stone was formed for her feet to stand on. Her voice now sounding apologetic and
like it belonged to a girl. And that surprises the young boy even more.
“Don't worry about about my cousin, she is just mean to show off how much smarter she is. She isn't here much anyways. And her sister just wanes to watch.
Now he is face to face with this light-haired savior of his. Maybe a goddess, taken one the form of a little girl?
Maybe Artemis?
She looks nothing like the Statues of the huntress Menelaus has seen.
But the way she moves has something free and self-assured in it. So the boy thinks it's possible.
“I am Helene, and you are Menelaus?“
says not Artemis. Offering her hand, her light hair framing her face. It is beautiful.
So, Helene is this Goddess name? Well, Menelaus has not heard of a Goddess named Helene before. Then again, he has not shaken hands with a Goddess before. And yet ,he is doing it right now. Her skin feels very Human.
He nods in agreement, words seem to be his enemy today. Helene contenus
her vice filled with kindness like a river with water after it has rained for days.
“come, I'll show you around.”
So he followers the little goddess as she shows him the halls and corridors. Knowing better the to question the gods. His Savior explained everything. It is a nice place. He hopes he and Agamemnon can stay here.
They go around until suddenly they run into a girl. That somehow looks simulate to Helene and not. Her hair is darker, her face more queenly even at her young age. Something Helene has she simply has not.
“Clytemnestra, I was just showing our gust around. This is Menelaus, Agamemnon Brother”
Helene says filed with experiment.
“Why?” asks this Clytemnestra.
“Course he is a gust, and what kind off a Zeus Dauther would I be if I not show a gust kindness”
Helene explains as if there had this conversion before, A lot.
“what ever you think is right Helene” is all Clytemnestra says.
And just Gose.
Wow, the humans were really casual with the gods here. Maybe it was because of what happened to Apollo? Or maybe the dark-haired girl was another goddess. No, she looked human.
He listens and answers her questions about his home and family. After everything he says, she offers him a drink. He still has not found the words to thank her, so he tries again.
"Thank you for the lorry thing."
Oh, that was nothing, as he looked at her in amazement. She stared at his vice,
"Really?"
and she looked at her own face,
"Oh, sorry. I didn't mean to freak you out. I'm sorry. I know people think I am creepy. I am."
"No, no, I am impressed."
"Really?"
"I've never seen that before, well done. How do you do it?"
"I don't know, I just do it. It is easier if you know the vise well or it has a quill. Like Penelope's dad."
"So that's what made her run away like a gose,"
Helene laughs.
"Penelope is more of a duck girl," is all she explains.
"So why could you do my vice? You haven't heard it much." "I like the sound of that," is all she says before suddenly,
Agamemnon stands before them. Pulling him in to a big Hug
"Tandyrus is letting us stay, Menelaus!... Are you Helen? Oh, wonderful, you have already met Tandrys Dauther.
Wait, Tandrys Dauther? She was human.
But she said her father was Zeus.
Menelaus was puzzled but happy.
