Work Text:
Tim is waiting downstairs for TJ to finish getting dressed. He promised a day out with his son since it’s been a busy few months. He has missed having some one on one time with his son. It’s important for them to take TJ out at least a few times a year together or separately. He was currently transitioning from Metro Sergeant over to Lieutenant as well as preparing for their daughter’s arrival in two months. TJ is his parents' world. He’s three years old and the spitting image of his dad.
“I’m ready daddy.” Tim melts at the sight of his son walking down the stairs. TJ’s outfit is identical to his own and he sees why Lucy wanted to pick his clothes out today.
She smiles at her boys. “I need a picture of you two. You look adorable.” It’s like looking in the mirror some days.
“Picture daddy!” TJ giggles and Tim picks him up. Lucy smiles at them both and rubs her belly.
“Of course we need a picture. Mommy can take it.” Tim kisses TJ’s cheek and Lucy snaps a few. “Now mommy can join us.” Tim grabs her hand and takes a few pictures of the three of them.
“You two have fun today. I’ll miss you both.” TJ smiles and hugs his mom.
“Mama rest!” He puts his hands on his hips but the expression on his face is exactly like Tim’s.
Tim puts TJ down and goes to wrap Lucy in a hug. “Put your feet up, please. We will bring dinner home and dessert for you. I know you’ll try to overdo it.” Lucy goes red in the face. “You can catch up on your romance books or binge watch a show. I have lunch being delivered at twelve. We love you.”
“Love you mama.” Lucy smiles at her son.
“I’ll miss my boys. Have fun today and be good.” TJ giggles and they make sure Lucy’s sitting down before they leave.
Tim buckles TJ in his car seat and then goes to the driver's side. “Okay buddy. What do you want to do today?” TJ taps his chin.
“Arcade daddy. Please.”
Tim looks in the mirror before backing out of the driveway. “That sounds perfect. It’s your day, so we can do what you want.” TJ smiles widely.
“Lunch! And do something for mama.” Tim loves how caring TJ is. He reminds him of Lucy in that way and he’s so lucky that his son has taken so many of her wonderful qualities.
“Okay buddy. We will have fun and do something special for your mom.” He finishes the drive to the arcade and parks in the parking lot. He goes to get TJ out of the truck. Once inside, he pays and then looks at TJ. “Which game do you want to play first?”
“Racing!” Tim smiles and goes to find one of the racing games. They have a blast and Tim manages to help them get first place. They also do the basketball game and Tim holds TJ up so he can make the basket. One of their favorites is a bowling game and TJ laughs the entire time. An hour later, they have a decent amount of tickets. TJ picks a few small items in exchange for the tickets and then they go to find lunch.
“What do you want to eat?”
TJ thinks about it. “Happy meal daddy!” Tim starts the drive to McDonald’s. He decides to eat in the play place and lets TJ go run some energy out once he finishes his food.
Tim pulls his phone out.
To my amazing wife 💛😘
I hope you enjoyed your lunch and you have your feet up. We love you.
From my amazing wife💛😘
Lunch was amazing. *inserts picture* I am currently in the bath and have watched some tv. Miss you and love you both.
Tim is jealous, but he’s glad that she’s relaxing. TJ comes running over. “Do you want to go shopping for a new toy?”
“Please daddy.” The smile on his face makes him smile.
When they arrive at their next destination, Tim puts TJ in the shopping cart. “Daddy, get mama something.” Tim ruffles his hair.
He walks to the snack aisle and picks them each out a snack. TJ picks out some bubble bath and some very comfy socks for Lucy as well. “Let’s go find a toy.” Tim brings him to the toy aisle and TJ’s eyes light up. He loves cars and he loves dinosaurs. “This one!” He decides and it’s a dinosaur hot wheels track.
“We can play together.” Tim also picks out a few cars.
“Thank you for a fun day daddy!” He smiles and before Tim can respond he’s off again. “Oh get Lana an outfit too!” He sees the baby clothes and runs over.
TJ thinks very hard as he looks at all the baby clothes. “This one.” It’s pink and says Mommy’s Mini. Tim’s heart warms.
“Mommy will love this and so will Lana.” Tim picks out some matching pajamas for all of them as well and then goes to pay. Once they leave, Tim takes TJ to the park for an hour. He loves the slides and is excited to play. He’s going to skip his nap today and he will sleep very well.
“Daddy.” TJ looks at Tim when he’s on the swings.
“What’s up buddy?”
“Can we get flowers and cupcakes for mama?” TJ smiles softly.
“Of course we can. I think mama will love that. You are always thinking of mama.” He pushes him more and Tim absolutely loves his son’s laugh.
Finally, they leave when it starts to rain. Tim heads to their favorite bakery to pick up some treats. They give TJ his own cookie and buy half a dozen cupcakes. Lucy will be very happy. “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome TJ.” He walks inside the flower shop next door and TJ picks out a bouquet of sunflowers. Tim adds in a few tulips as well because it’s Lucy’s favorite. He can’t wait to get home.
As he drives home, TJ is smiling to himself and clutching the bag for Lucy. He is such a wonderful kid and Tim can’t believe that this is his life some days. “Okay, let’s go see mama.” Tim parks in the garage and as soon as TJ is out of the truck he runs inside. He has the items from the store in his hand and Tim grabs the rest.
“Mama, we’re home.” He runs to the couch and climbs into her lap. Tim walks in and sees them together. She sees Tim’s hands and her heart melts.
“I thought today was about you two.” Tim walks over and places the cupcakes on the coffee table. He hands her the flowers. “Thank you baby. Thank you TJ.”
“Love you mama. Now look.” He pulls the outfit out.
“Did you pick this out for your sister?” Lucy is struggling to not cry.
TJ nods his head. “Yes mama. Here’s candy and socks.” Lucy also sees the bubble bath.
“Oh TJ. You are the best little boy ever. I love you. Thank you for being so sweet.”
TJ smiles proudly and decides to go find Kojo. Tim sits next to Lucy and pulls her into his lap. “I also have your favorite cupcakes.”
“I have the best husband and son ever. Thank you for always taking care of me.” Lucy mumbles into his chest. Tim orders dinner and after TJ’s bath, they put his hot wheels track together. He loves it and can’t stop giggling when Tim’s car crashes into his.
“Daddy’s a bad driver.”
Lucy bursts out laughing and Tim’s jaw drops. TJ high fives his mom. He starts to get tired and begs Lucy to tell him a story.
Tim says goodnight and goes to clean up. He’s in his thoughts when two arms wrap around him. He turns around and kisses Lucy. “I missed you today, but I’m really glad you took it easy.”
Lucy holds onto Tim and rests her head on his chest. “I missed you both too, but it was nice to just relax. We’ll be a family of four soon.” Tim kisses her head.
“I can’t wait. TJ was so excited to take care of you and Lana.” This makes Lucy smile.
“I can’t wait to see him become a big brother. He’s going to be the best. Plus, seeing you with our daughter is going to be wonderful. You’re the best daddy.”
“I love watching you with TJ. You’re the best mommy around. I love you.” They stand there holding each other and he never wants this moment to end. He absolutely adores every single part of his life.
