Professor... Seriously?

Summary:

A Hale doesn't always expect a Stilinski.

Notes:

(See the end of the work for notes.)

Work Text:

“No greater wit hath man…”

“You know that quote is incorrect, Stiliski?”

“I wasn’t going to bring religion into to it, Mister Hale”

If he could have sighed in class, he would have, but that was unprofessional.  He didn’t expect his students to call him professor, and most of them called him Peter, especially the adults, though those that were uncomfortable with that called him Mr Hale.

Stiles though, easily made that sound like an insult.  So he’d retaliated in kind sort of, not exactly how he should be behaving, he knew, but no one had ever said he wasn’t petty.

He’d not expected to see anyone from Beacon Hills after he left, he’d done his bit and had wanted out of there.  With a bit of hard work, he’d managed to trade his law degree for an English Literature professorship along the way.

So ending up with a snarky and sarcastic Stilinski in class had been something of a surprise, after all he was across the other side of the country currently calling Vermont his home.

Though he and Derek still regularly Skyped, so a bit of warning would have been nice.

Listening to Stiles talk his way out of using the incorrect quote and why, had actually been quite amusing, with his other students trying to pull Stilinski’s essay apart, which was the point of this section of his course.  The college he taught at had somewhat of a different view on what actually counted as Literature in an elective study that didn’t really count towards the student’s degree.  Not that couldn’t teach what was actually required to pass the Literature course, and he did weekdays.  But his night classes though were a bit different, enough that most student at least tried one or two.

“So, Mister Stilinski, to round up, why would you consider your paper to be a passing grade?”

“No foreskins involved?”

And that had laughter coming from all over his class, not surprisingly being Stiles, that story seemed to have done the rounds.
