Work Text:

It happened so fast.

One second, Kageyama was waddling—yes, waddling—out of the kitchen with a half-melted tub of mint chocolate chip in one hand, and the next, three very familiar idiots were bursting into the living room like a damn SWAT team.

Yamaguchi, Hinata, and Yachi, faces with excitement, froze mid-step.

Their gazes locked onto Kageyama’s unmistakably VERY pregnant form, the tight stretch of his hoodie dress doing absolutely nothing to hide the curve of his belly.

Hinata, bless his soul, pointed dramatically and screamed, "BAKAYAMA!! WHAT THE HELL—YOU'RE PREGNANT?!"

The ice cream slipped from Kageyama's fingers and splattered pathetically onto the hardwood floor.

Kageyama blinked at them, utterly frozen, mouth opening like a goldfish gasping for air—

And like a normal very emotional pregnant omega that he was, which to everyone's horror, started crying.

Big, ugly, unstoppable tears.

From the kitchen, Tsukishima stiffened immediately, fingers tightening around the dish towel he was using. His instincts screamed at him—no, not instincts, his bond with Kageyama throbbed with distress—and he dropped everything, striding into the living room.

He barely registered Hinata's panicked flailing or Yachi’s horrified squeak.

All he saw was Kageyama, standing there trembling, tears streaming down his cheeks, looking so vulnerable it punched the air from Tsukishima’s lungs.

Without hesitation, he crossed the room and gathered Kageyama into his arms, careful of the belly between them. Kageyama buried his face into Tsukishima's chest immediately, sobbing harder, clutching weakly at the front of his shirt.

Tsukishima rubbed his back, scenting him subtly to soothe him, glaring over Kageyama’s head at their very guilty-looking friends.

"What the hell, Sho," he said flatly. "Stop shouting."

"I—I didn’t know—!" Hinata stammered, his own eyes wide and panicked. "You—you didn’t tell us!"

"Maybe there was a reason for that," Tsukishima snapped, voice sharp with restrained anger. His hand never stopped moving over Kageyama’s back, slow and rhythmic, whispering soft, private reassurances into Kageyama’s hair.

Yachi looked like she was about to cry too, hands wringing nervously onto whatever she was holding, eyes not leaving Kageyama.

Yamaguchi, to his credit, stepped forward, hands up in surrender.

"We’re sorry," Yamaguchi said firmly, quietly. "We didn’t mean to scare him. It's been two months since his team said he'll be out of volleyball and you guys only told us he's okay and he's just recovering... we believed it was just something light, we didn’t know.. We've only found our schedule match today, and wanted to surprise visit Tobi-kun Tsukki."

Hinata nodded fastly, "I thought you were injured! Because your team said health related, what the hell... not this.." his hands flailing around pointing at the big belly.

Kageyama hiccupped against Tsukishima’s chest, still sniffling miserably.

Tsukishima sighed through his nose, lowering his forehead to rest lightly against the top of Kageyama's head. He guided him to the sofa and let him sit beside looking at the three in front of them.

"It’s not that we didn’t want to tell you," Tsukishima said eventually, voice softer now. "We just... wanted to wait. Until it was safe."

Hinata sniffled. "Safe?" he repeated, voice cracking.

Kageyama finally peeked up at them, cheeks blotchy, eyes red-rimmed.

"I was scared," he admitted, voice so small it cracked something open in all three of them. "I—I didn’t want people to know yet. What if something happened? *snif*I didn't even know I was pregnant  when I left two months ago and I'm already on my 4th month that time.*sniff* if its not for my manager noticing I kept on eating this strawberry buns *sniff* I wouldn't get checkup. An then I wouldn't know *sniff* I probably would still be playing vohball! What if.. *sniff*"

He trailed off, biting his lip hard, and went to cry again.

Until now, Kageyama is still frustrated how he might have taken his baby to danger playing volleyball without knowing at all.

Tsukishima gently tugged him closer again, grounding him.

Yachi put down whatever's on her hand on the table near Hinata and dashed forward as she grabbed Kageyama’s hand, squeezing it between both of her small ones.

"Nothing's going to happen, you didn't know back then but you know now. Everything's going to be fine Tobio-kun" she said fiercely. "And we’re here also. Okay? Always."

Yamaguchi nodded, looking soft and supportive of their friend.

Hinata, looking stricken, dropped down to his knees carefully so he was at belly height and whispered, "Sorry, little dude. I didn’t mean to scare you or your papa."

Kageyama gave a shaky laugh that sounded more like a sob.

"Are you guys mad.. we didn't tell you?" Kageyama looking so emotional with tears still in his eyes while pouting.

"NO!" The three said simultaneously.

Yachi sighed still holding Kageyama's hand. "Tobio-kin. No. We are just shocked and surprised but we're happy for you two.."

Kageyama looked at the other two.

Yamaguchi just smiled, "You looked great Tobio-kun. I'm excited for the upcoming little Tsukki. But hoping that little prince here will take your eyes. Their beautiful." Kageyama blushed after hearing that.

"Of course Bakayama! There's no way in hell we'll be mad.. We're more surprised on this but never mad!"

For a moment, everything was peaceful again.

Kageyama's breathing was evening out. Yachi was still clutching his hand like a lifeline.

Yamaguchi had disappeared into the kitchen to fetch a glass of water for Kageyama. Hinata was kneeling by the bump, mumbling frantic apologies to the baby like some weird volleyball priest.

Tsukishima exhaled, tension starting to bleed from his shoulders.

And then—

A ping sounded.

Then another.

And another.

Then a whole avalanche of notification sounds from someone's phone.

Kageyama stiffened immediately in Tsukishima's arms.

Hinata froze.

Very, very slowly, he together with everyone there, Yachi, Tsukishima, and Tobio turned their head toward the phone lying face-up on the coffee table, screen lighting up like a fireworks show.

Incoming messages.

Comments.

Tags.

Tsukishima narrowed his eyes, realization dawning like a fucking nuclear bomb.

"...Hinata Shoyo," he said in a voice that could peel paint.

"Y-yeah?" Hinata squeaked, already sweating.

"Tell me you didn’t have your dumbass on Live."

Silence.

Hinata’s face turned a shade of white previously reserved only for corpses.

Very slowly, he reached for his phone with trembling fingers. He tapped the screen.

And there it was. Still going. Still live.

The entire internet, their entire fanbase, Japan’s entire volleyball community—hell, maybe even the damn Prime Minister if he was bored enough—had just witnessed Kageyama Tobio, beloved national hero, bronze medalist, and Schweiden Adlers star player—waddling out with an ice cream tub, six months pregnant and crying into his husband’s chest.

Yachi was also sweating, even tearing up..

Yes, it was Hinata's phone but she'd been the one holding that phone ever since this morning when Hinata said he want to go live and gave the phone to her to take the video.

And as she'd been the designated manager/photographer/videographer of their group since their teens she just accepted it.

And promptly forgot about the phone, just to hold Kageyama's hand to calm him down.

"YOU—YOU—" Tsukishima was actually at a loss for words. He looked murderous at Hinata.

Kageyama, horrified, looked between them with huge watery eyes.

"Live...?" he whispered, as if he hadn’t fully processed it yet.

Yachi bowed apologizing profusely, "oh my god! I'm sorry. I'm sorry! I was the one taking the video, i forgot."

Hinata scrambled to his knees, babbling:

"No! I'm the one who thought of going live for surprise visit.. I’m sorry!! I was just—I was gonna show everyone we were hanging out, and that bakayama's just fine and then—and then—"

He waved his hands wildly at Kageyama’s belly. "THIS HAPPENED!!"

Tsukishima made a noise like he was being physically restrained by the thin thread of his own sanity.

Yachi, bless her, tried to mediate. "M-maybe not many people saw—?"

Another ping exploded from Hinata’s phone.

Then another.

Yamaguchi came running back in, wide-eyed, holding a glass of water with one and the other with his phone that was blaring non-stop with new notifications.

"#BakayamaPregnancy trending nationwide!" Yamaguchi read out, stunned.
"#TobioPapa?! # AdlersBaby?! # VolleyballRoyalBaby?!"

Yachi squeaked.

Hinata made a sound between a laugh and a sob. "! Nationwide... trending...?"

He dropped to his knees and clutched his head like his soul was leaving his body.

Meanwhile, Tsukishima leaned heavily into Kageyama’s side, pulling him closer with a sigh that sounded very, very tired.

Kageyama just buried his face in Tsukishima’s chest again and muttered:

"I want to die."

"No dying," Tsukishima said flatly, kissing the top of his head with a low growl. "You’re already doing the hard part, my King."

Yamaguchi, watching them, smiled helplessly. "Guess the secret’s out now."

Hinata nodded fiercely saying nonstop"And it’s fine Bakayamaa! You guys are married anyway! Andd you guys are bonded couple. You guys been together for since forever anyways. It's normal for you to get pregnant. And you’re happy! And everyone’s just going to have to deal with it!"

Everyone was just looking at Hinata babbling nonstop reassurance.

Yachi paled, "Shoyo!"

"What?"

It was Yamaguchi who answered, "You, just outed that Tobio is married.. that is not a public info?"

Tsukishima sighed and face palmed.

Hinata, paled even bluer crawled up to Kageyama on his knees and bowed so low his forehead hit the floor.

"I'M SO SORRY, BAKAYAMA!!" he shouted.

Kageyama, despite himself, gave a choked laugh instead through his lingering tears.

Tsukishima had never in his life wanted to chuck a phone out the window more than he did right now. Never had he wanted punch Hinata on the face more than fucking right now.

Hinata was still babbling apologies, the others hovering awkwardly like they were afraid to breathe too loudly.

Tsukishima grabbed the phone from Hinata's trembling hands. The screen was still lit up with notifications pouring in like a tsunami: comments, reactions, emojis, speculation, fans freaking out in real-time.

Without blinking, Tsukishima lifted the phone, switched the camera to front came to see himself, and scowled into the lens.

“Hi,” he said flatly. “This is Tsukishima Kei.”

He glanced at Kageyama, whose hand was now clutched tightly in his. His eyes softened just enough.

“Yes,” he continued, “Kageyama Tobio is pregnant. Yes, we’re married. No, it’s not any of your business—but since it’s out now, Adlers will release an official post soon. Thank you.”

And with that, he hit End Live.

The room was dead silent for a beat.

Then Kageyama whispered, “That was kinda hot.”

Tsukishima sighed. “Don’t encourage me. I’m about to go feral.”

-

Kageyama had long calmed down, his tears dried on Tsukishima’s shirt.

He was now sitting comfortably on the couch, a big fluffy pillow tucked behind him - a new ice cream on his belly, while Tsukishima practically glued to his side like some tall, possessive cat.

The Adlers had already been called — Tsukishima made sure of it — and their PR team was probably in full emergency meeting mode by now. But that was a problem for later.

For now, the chaos inside the house hadn't fully died down.

Especially because Hinata was still kneeling dramatically on the floor, head bowed like he was praying.

"Bakayamaaaaaaaaa," Hinata wailed again, "I'm really really sorry! I'll babysit for FREE! For life! I'll do it!! Please don't hate me!!"

Kageyama blinked at him, expression tired but slightly amused.

"I don't hate you, dumbass," he said bluntly. His voice was hoarse from crying, but now steady.

Hinata gasped in relief and immediately tried to hug him. Tsukishima growled lowly in warning, and Hinata froze mid-pounce.

"I'll just... hug you later!" Hinata squeaked, sitting back down obediently.

Meanwhile, Yamaguchi had gotten himself a chair and sat down nearby, his grin wide and eyes shining.

"I'm so happy for you, Tobi. I still can't believe you're now carrying. Really. You’ll be a great dad."

"And you're already doing amazing," Yachi added, practically bouncing with excitement.

She came closer, crouching in front of Kageyama and taking his hand gently like he was made of glass.

"Carrying a baby is no joke, you know! It’s hard! And you’re doing it so well. I'm so proud of you, Tobi! You're incredible!"

Kageyama flushed scarlet almost instantly. He was not used to compliments — especially not ones delivered so sincerely and most importantly when it was not about his volleyball that was being complimented.

He ducked his head, ears pink.

"I... it's not that big of a deal..." he mumbled awkwardly.

Tsukishima snorted quietly,  saying "it is a big deal, you idiot."

"You’re literally growing a human," Yachi insisted, squeezing his hand.

Hinata nodded so hard his whole body shook. "Yeah! You’re awesome, Bakayama!"

Kageyama looked at all of them — Hinata, Yamaguchi, Yachi — with their wide smiles and shining eyes, and for the first time in a while, he felt something loosen inside him.
Their reassurance settled something heavy in his chest.

He gave them a small, real smile.
"...Thanks," he said, voice rough but honest.

And when Yachi squealed because he smiled, Tsukishima had to grab a pillow and throw it at her to stop her from combusting.
