Work Text:
Ash was tired.
Not from lack of sleep (his mom made sure of that) but from being surrounded by people constantly.
It always happened when he was heading to his next class. Girls would crowd around him like he was some kinda celebrity or something and ask for his number.
Unfortunately he was just heading to lunch when it happened, again. A group of girls went up to him, blocking his way.
One of them-he wasn’t paying attention to their looks-asked: “Hi! Are you dating anyone right now?”
“Uh…no?” ‘Why would I want that?’
“Cool, so-“She got shoved out of the way by one her friends, a popular girl it seemed. “Go out with me?”
“Um-“
The girl from before shoved her friend back. “I asked first!”
“Move it!”
“Hey, quit shoving me!”
More people came to watch the commotion and Ash just really wanted to leave. The people, this hallway, school-but there wasn’t anywhere to go and it turned into an actual fight now and why aren’t the teachers getting involved and too many people and too loud and-
“Will you girls knock it off? You’re making a fool out of yourselves before he even gets the chance to reject-respond to you!”
Thank god for Dawn, honestly. He didn’t know what he’d do without her. They’ve been best friends since they were ten and she always seemed to know when he was in trouble. Like now.
The girls must’ve ran off because suddenly he had room to breathe, and everyone resumed walking to their destination. Only Dawn remained, standing off to the side before slowly entering his line of sight, in case she startled him. “Are you feeling better now that everyone’s gone?”
“Yeah. Where-“ His stomach rumbled and he blushed in embarrassment.
Dawn giggled. “I’m guessing you’re hungry.”
“I’m starving.”
“Do you want me to get your lunch for you or do you wanna try going into the cafeteria first?”
He didn’t really want to go into the cafeteria today. “Uh…can you get it today? I don’t wanna go in there right now.”
“Sure. Meet you in the library?”
He nodded and they parted ways. At least lunch would be better now.
