One More Celebration

Summary:

With the freedom finally really won, they dine at the Ritz

Notes:

For our new feature Style Sunday - that I don't think we did a post about and I'm posting on a Tuesday because life 😄 - over at the Whickber Street Writing Association, we're picking a poetry form and write a poem for it. We picked Acrostic poetry this time. Here's my attempt. Not 100% satisfied with it but I've been trying to do this thing where I post things even if I'm not entirely happy with them because perfection is a messenger from hell - or possibly even a really successful demon.

Anyway, hope you enjoy. I'll put the phrase I've "hidden" in the end notes.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

A table filled with the finest dishes
Nothing left to be desired
Grilled Filet Mignon and Steak Au Poivre
Entrement Au Chocolat Mousse and Crème Brûlée
Lemon Cloudcake served with the finest champagne
Scallops in white wine sauce

Diners all around us and yet it’s just us
In our world, on our side, only this matters
Never again will we separate
In sparkling unison we celebrate our freedom
Now inimitable partners, friends and more
Glory in what lies ahead for us

Angel and demon, side by side
Table for two, laden with food for a dozen

There never was a better time
Here I take your hand with a gentle smile
Everything goes still as I gaze at you

Ring in between my fingertips, silly tradition
I ask anyway, you nod eagerly
The ring slips easily on your finger
Zestful smile promises a sleepless night

Notes:

The phrase is: "Angels dining at the Ritz"
